  1. I made a few shitty demos on it last year. Because I was at a magnet school last year, we had what was called an editing room, and one day, I asked my A/V teacher about it. He introduced me to it, and I started using it during lunch. Unfortunately, I never got to make final versions. Anyway, the songs that I made demos of were a Rush medley (featuring "Emotion Detector", "A Passage to Bangkok", "Xanadu", "Circumstances", "Tom Sawyer", "The Camera Eye", "Subdivisions", "Distant Early Warning", "Far Cry", and "Armor and Sword" - WITH my own random drum solo ), a full version of "The Camera Eye", and an original song that a friend and I made called "Carnival Song". It's scary, like a carnival gone wrong. I really wish that I had done a perfect version, but nothing is perfect, I guess. Anyways, I don't have a Mac of my own, and I don't have the money to get one. Does anyone know the closest thing to it on Windows? I really want to get back to working with this stuff again, mainly because I know a lot more music now, and because I want to do better versions of my songs.
  2. edgy, I was thinking. You're a Yes fan, I'm a Yes fan. You could always learn how to play "Owner of a Lonely Heart" on bass. Honestly, though, it's an easy song (quite repetitive) to play on bass.
  3. from Page 3 to Page 1. 1. Rush - Tom Sawyer (160 plays) 2. Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart (154 plays) 3. My Chemical Romance - Teenagers (151 plays) 4. My Chemical Romance - Dead! (129 plays) 5. My Chemical Romance - House of Wolves (113 plays) 6. Big and Rich - Leap of Faith (98 plays) 7. My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade (98 plays) 8. Rush - Hope (98 plays) 9. Rush - The Camera Eye (96 plays) 10. My Chemical Romance - I Don't Love You (91 plays) 11. Rush - Limelight (90 plays) 12. My Chemical Romance - Mama (89 plays) 13. Rush - Vital Signs (87 plays) 14. Rush - Everyday Glory (82 plays) 15. Yes - The Gates of Delirium (82 plays) 16. My Chemical Romance - Disenchanted (80 plays) 17. Rush - Red Barchetta (79 plays) 18. Rush - Xanadu (78 plays) 19. Yes - We Have Heaven (77 plays) 20. My Chemical Romance - I'm Not Okay (I Promise) (75 plays) 21. Yes - Sound Chaser (75 plays) 22. Yes - To Be Over (75 plays) 23. My Chemical Romance - The End. (74 plays) 24. My Chemical Romance - Famous Last Words (72 plays) 25. Rush - Cygnus X-1, Book II: Hemispheres (72 plays) I really don't think that there was much change, except that Side Two of Relayer ("Sound Chaser" and "To Be Over") moved up some. Along with MCR's "I'm Not Okay", they create a three-way tie for 20th place; however, "I'm Not Okay" will move back because I always listen to Relayer as an entire album. There's also a three-way tie for 6th place, but one song is by MCR (and hasn't been played in a month), and the other is by Rush (but hasn't been played in almost two months). So I predict that next time around, there will be some more changes. Maybe I can bump those MCR songs that are at the bottom out. If I want to get Yes' "South Side of the Sky" in here, I'll need to play it around five more times. Not too much at all - and if I want to keep "Hemispheres" in here, I'll need to play it again. (Also, minus the black, my top 25 looks like Christmas time!! Sweet!! ) Song Count By Artist My Chemical Romance - 10 songs Rush - 9 songs Yes - 5 songs Big and Rich - 1 song

  5. Geddy once subbed for Chris Squire at a Yes concert back in 1984. In return, Trevor Rabin subbed for Lerxst.
  6. I think that the next new episode is next week, so until then I'll leave a few quotes with y'all - from the episode "Don't Make Me Over". Meg: Mom, Dad, am I ugly? Lois: Of course not! Peter: Yeah, where'd you get a crazy idea like that? Meg: Craig Hoffman. Peter: Craig Hoffman said that? Well, he's a swell kid, you might be ugly *Meg runs off crying*
  7. It's great to be back in this thread!! There have been some changes, so let's see what happened. 1. Rush - Tom Sawyer (160 plays) 2. Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart (152 plays) 3. My Chemical Romance - Teenagers (151 plays) 4. My Chemical Romance - Dead! (129 plays) 5. My Chemical Romance - House of Wolves (113 plays) 6. Big and Rich - Leap of Faith (98 plays) 7. My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade (98 plays) 8. Rush - Hope (98 plays) 9. Rush - The Camera Eye (96 plays) 10. My Chemical Romance - I Don't Love You (91 plays) 11. Rush - Limelight (90 plays) 12. My Chemical Romance - Mama (89 plays) 13. Rush - Vital Signs (87 plays) 14. Rush - Everyday Glory (82 plays) 15. Yes - The Gates of Delirium (81 plays) 16. My Chemical Romance - The End. (74 plays) 22. Yes - Sound Chaser (74 plays) 23. Yes - To Be Over (74 plays) 24. My Chemical Romance - Famous Last Words (72 plays) 25. Rush - Cygnus X-1, Book II: Hemispheres (72 plays) Some pretty big changes happened over this week. For starters, "Owner of a Lonely Heart" knocked MCR's "Teenagers", which has been either #1 or #2 since I started posting my top 25, to #3. Secondly, Big and Rich's "Leap of Faith" gets back to the #6 spot - the same as its number on the album!! And, Yes/Rush/Big and Rich continues to move ahead of MyChem. I'm not very sure as to what song will be added next - it looks to be Yes' "South Side of the Sky", which has 66 plays, though something else may get added. Whatever the case, I really want to knock "Famous Last Words" out of the Top 25, so that Rush will have as many as MCR. Song Count By Artist My Chemical Romance - 10 songs Rush - 9 songs Yes - 5 songs Big and Rich - 1 song

I thought you'd never ask! It's from a compilation of demos called 'Searching For The Songs'. Strawberry Wine is a great song and I it! (obviously ) It doesn't actually sound 'unfinished' or 'demo like' to me. (well, except maybe the very last few seconds) I don't know what song it's a demo of, (if he changed the title) since I don't have all of Jon's albums yet. But I've never seen that title on the tracklist of any other album. (so he either changed the title or just left it) So it's like "Tough Break" by Rush, in the fact that it's a demo, but sounds more like an official recording? Yeah, it sounds like a proper finished song. I've got some Jon questions, but I'll post them in my "Yes questions" thread over in MOTS, because I might have a big ol' bunch of 'em!

  12. Wow..... 11 days since my last iPod sync! Here's the list. 1. Rush - Tom Sawyer (158 plays) 2. My Chemical Romance - Teenagers (151 plays) 3. Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart (149 plays) 4. My Chemical Romance - Dead! (129 plays) 5. My Chemical Romance - House of Wolves (113 plays) 6. My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade (98 plays) 7. Rush - Hope (98 plays) 8. Rush - Cygnus X-1, Book II: Hemispheres (71 plays) TBH I have no clue what moved around. All I know is that "Owner of a Lonely Heart " is about to knock off MCR's "Teenagers" from the Number 2 spot, and then it will likely knock off Rush's "Tom Sawyer". "Delirium" is going to jump ahead of MCR's "Disenchanted". Sweet, I guess. Maybe some other muzik will get in here soon, it's time for change! Song Count By Artist My Chemical Romance - 10 songs Rush - 9 songs Yes - 5 songs Big and Rich - 1 song
  13. QUOTE (rushbass @ Nov 16 2008, 04:05 PM) Take your pick... http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s282/rushbass/MyAxes.jpg The 1993 Yamaha TRB-6P is my main axe, but I do also have a 1962 Fender Jazz, and a 1977 Rickenbacker 4001 in Jetglo... and by the way, the 1986 Clevinger Upright Bass on the right was previously owned and purchased directly from none other than bass legend Stanley Clarke himself! It is autographed on the bridge and the back of the neck.. http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s282/rushbass/WWHeadCloseup2.jpg Then I have my amp, which is the world renowned Walter Woods Electracoustic Ultra High Power amp... puts out 1200 watts RMS with a 4 ohm load, and weighs only 7 pounds! The Rick and that color of jazz bass are two of my dream basses. I bet they play like a dream!
  14. I'm definitely a beginner when it comes to music (I'm best on keyboards, then alright on bass, and I know a little guitar), but my pride would have to be my old Squier Precision Bass. I guess I can tell y'all why it is my favorite, when it was stolen , and how long I've had it! The story's kinda long, too - sorry! I was in 2nd grade (I'm a freshman in HS now), and I was sitting on the back of my dad's car with a friend, and we were playing air guitar and listening to headphones. This guy drives up, and asks if we want a guitar. My mom, who is looking out of the window, comes out to make sure there is no problem. He asks her if we want a guitar, and my mom says sure. The guy drives to his house to pick it up, and brings an effects box, gig bag, and cable with it, and gives it to me. We put the effects box in the entertainment center (didn't know how to use it), and put the bass in its case. Whenever I "played" it, I'd just put it in the bag, and I put that behind my door. (Still in 2nd grade for this part) Well, one day I was on my front porch with it, and I guess I went inside and left the bass on the front porch. Sure enough, in this great world, there are people who steal for pleasure, and my bass was a victim of the game. We found out that the people who stole it had committed a rash of robberies in the neighborhood. According to what we heard, they were bein chased by the police, and they threw it out of the car. An older woman who we were (and are) friends with noticed the bass, and had heard from my mom about it missing. So she returned it to us. However, the police wanted to make sure it was ours, so my mom got the gig bag, cable, etc. ; we got to keep it. It was already a little beat-up when I got it, and throwing it out of the car gave it more battle scars. BUT - the bass was not broken, the neck didn't get a crack, and no keys were missing. For the longest time, my mom wouldn't let me leave the house with it. Fast-forward to summer of 2007, I'm starting to use it more, though it has the same strings, and is not in tune. I broke one of the strings one night, messing around with it, and broke another one a week later. So I took my poor bass to the place that it had been purchased at, and they threw on a new set of strings. That's when I started picking up real interest in playing it. I started saving for an amp that I saw at the store, but bought another one at another store for $10 less - and it sounds great! So it's been stolen, thrown out of a car, had a strap peg come loose, and it's still working! I'm proud to say that this bass is - and, if I ever decide to join a band, will - be my favorite bass, even if I get another one. If I got a Rickenbacker (the bass I really want), this P-bass would be "the bass", if only for sentimental reasons. Well, sorry for rambling on! edit: here's a picture of me playing it. http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn207/Xanadu93/100_0885.jpg

My Chemical Romance - Famous Last Words (72 plays) 23. Rush - Freewill (71 plays) 24. Rush - Cygnus X-1, Book II: Hemispheres (70 plays) 25. Rush - Digital Man (69 plays) I'll make a prediction now: this is the last list with "Digital Man"; its last time played was on August 26. According to iTunes, the 26th most played song is Yes' "Sound Chaser", with 68 plays, and "To Be Over" is #28 and has 66 plays of its own. Relayer is one of my favorite albums, meaning it gets a lot of listens. I'll probably have the whole album in on either the next Top 25, or the one after that. It'll also be the only complete album in the Top 25, but then again, it's only three songs! Song Count By Artist Rush - 11 My Chemical Romance - 10 Yes - 3 Big & Rich - 1 Dude I've gotta ask, how long have you had that iTunes library going? 150 just seems like a ton of plays..... Well, I've had my iPod since November 18, 2006 (how I remember it is because I got it the day before my birthday), and I had a big iTunes problem last summer to fall (2007). It's been since then, that's why the play count is high. I remember that the R30 version of "Xanadu" was my most-played song - with around 150 plays.

As for tips...Play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play... Yep. No substitute for practice. However, I would ask around amongst friends that play and find out the easiest song or two to play that you like to listen to, and learn them as soon as you can. There is nothing more motivating than actually being able to play a tune you enjoy, and it will spur you on to bigger and better things.... Yep. Just hold off on trying to learn any Geddy bass lines until at LEAST after the first month. Tru dat! Congrats on picking up the bass, edgy - I look forward to some of your compositions!
  24. QUOTE (Xanadude69 @ Nov 2 2008, 10:03 PM) This happened with my guitar. I quick fix I did was break a toothpick in half, stuff it in the hole and screw the peg back in. Its been fine ever since. Just did it, and it works. Thanks Xanadude69! edit: I don't know what year my P-bass is. How do I tell - someone told me something about using the serial number, and using the first 2 digits - is that correct? Or is that not it?
