  1. They re-recorded a lot of their parts afterwards in the studio so it sounds a lot faker than their other live albums. It's my least favorite for that reason.

I've been hearing this for years.

I've also listened to bootlegs from this tour and always thought that ESL sounds pretty close to the sound at the time.

  2. "We've got a million songs to play for you tonight..."

Whenever Alex hit that first long sustained note to start the Limelight solo...particularly at outdoor shows on sultry summer nights.

The jam in the middle of Subdivisions. There's a jam in the middle of every song, but something about Subdivisions...

Wondering if Ged would hit all the notes during YYZ, and he always did.

The electronic choir during the outro of Marathon.

When Alex and Ged split in different directions when the drum solo starts.

The laser fan effect during La Villa Strangiato.

The sheer and utter power of Between the Wheels.

"We hope to see you soon sometime down the road...good night!" Ged never said goodbye, just, see ya next time...

  3. In many ways it's the quintessential Rush song, and highlights all the things that make Rush unique.

It also seems to be their most popular song with women, which, as far as Rush tunes go, is quite an accomplishment.

  4. Summer's going fast,

    Nights growing colder

    Children growing up-

    Old friends growing older

Every Fall when the crisp first hits the air, I think of these lyrics.

Never been able to understand the hate for Half the World, but to each their own.

  5. For Geddy's influences...a couple things he's mentioned:

Check out the early Yes album Time and A Word

"3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds" off Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane

"Spoonful" off Fresh Cream by Cream

  7. It's like packing 10 pounds of music into a 5 pound bag. It's an okay album, plenty to enjoy, plenty to not. Each of us probably enjoys different groups of songs which is pretty impressive when you think about it. Rush's legacy is not tarnished by Clockwork Angels, not at all.

Exactly how I feel. They've always been true to the music and don't have any albums that are embarrassing to their legacy.

Not even the sound on Rush In Rio? :laughing guy:

  8. When it came out, I loved it from the first listen.

Funny thing is, I've tended to do that with every new Rush album that I've ever bought with my own money (Moving Pictures, when I was 12). Heh.

As time and albums have gone by, I realized that the best measure for me is how long I keep listening to it.

Five years on, I still listen to CA material on a regular basis in the personal rotation, something I haven't done with a Rush album in quite some time after the newness had worn off.

  9. Neil has earned the right to retire, owes nothing to anyone. Wrote the song for him, not you, after all.

However, statements such as "Neil has been struggling with an ailment he picked up whilst motorcycling on this tour" bring no sympathy.

  10. -A trio

-A vocalist that people either love or hate

-Virtuoso playing, particularly on bass and drums

-More ofthen than not, the bass carries the melody, the guitar is textural with awesome solos

-A "weird" fanbase that other people either make fun of or just don't get

-You're either in the fanbase, or you're not

-A band and fanbase full of inside jokes and unique humor

    Primus sucks.

  11. I've always found his writing to be representative of an alternate persona, him in his "writers" head.

Or, put another way, he's a much nicer guy in writing.

Nicer than what? He's at least as judgmental as the people he rails about for being judgmental.

Well, I was thinking about how he's made the point over and over again about his shyness, not into adulation and fans, etc., but choosing writing as a more comfortable venue to communicate, all that.

  13. This won't help much, but I just don't bother introducing anyone to Rush music. It's just way too much of an acquired taste.

People all butt hurt over Rush fan portrayal in "I Love You, Man" need to lighten up. The truth hurts.

That movie is stupid and the portrayal of Rush fans is ridiculous and represents none of any truth I'm personally aware of.
