Would love to know how you smuggled that kind of gear into a Rush concert...even in the UK. I have all Canon gear: 5D and professional L glass ranging from 17mm to 200mm. Would LOVE to have a chance to actually use that for a good concert...'tis but a pipe dream. Had to have a photo pass. The D4 is the same size as the 1 series bodies. You just don't smuggle a body and lens that size. Besides that, I wouldn't take the chance of missing a concert because I got caught trying to get it in and had to sit in the car protecting my gear. It is possible to "smuggle" in HUGE lenses and camera gear without a press pass. The guy next to me (actually, he bought my extra ticket, so was right next to me) at Red Rocks in Aug., 2010, had his super-nice SLR with monster lenses just tucked into his cargo shorts and walked right in. He looked like MC Hammer with bulging dance pants but he just came on in with all of his pro gear and snapped away all night from row 19. I saw some of the photos just after the show but lost track of them and the guy. My pleasure to share. Becoming a "photographer" happened quite by accident and began when I borrowed this camera from a friend for the 2007 Shoreline show (the Alex photo was taken with this cam at that show). I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality of the resulting photos the I had captured, I asked to hold onto the camera and eventually was gifted the Canon to keep for good. It's now a staple for all my concert going and I've gotten some great shots at nearly all of the shows I've attended over the years.... one notable exception was Living Colour when they played in San Fran. For some reason, I left the camera at home and ended up standing against the stage in the frontest front row for one of the great rockin' shows of all time! Oh well... I am glad you enjoy the photos I post. Coming to this late-ish.... My Canon PowerShot G7 is a star. As I understand it, the PowerShot family of cameras has the same processor, shutter and electronics as their much more expensive and professional grade SLR cams but has a fixed lens. It offers 6x optical zoom (which is really awesome and I use often) and 24x digital zoom (which is way more sensitive to camera jiggle and gets pixelated easily, so I don't use so often) and is probably much more capable than I've put to use, but on full-auto does an amazing job. I think the PowerShot has evolved and is on G11 or even G13 but I think the larger numbers are just newer-better-stronger-faster to get you to buy a new one versions of the same concept. That's cool. You saw my post after the AC show regarding the pick Alex threw me? I "should" have one, but thanks to the jerk next to me I don't. This happened to me as well Alex threw me one at the first Halifax show but then it bounced off my hand and the bloke behind me who stood in an awkard angle and certainly not in the direction the pick was coming from when Al threw it my way managed to steal it from me This guy lthen looked at me with such an arrogant smirk on his face and when I told him it was really meant for me he then tucked it really slowly into his pocket of his pants. He so was NOT intended to have gotten it from Alex and he damn well knew it!! At the Palace of Auburn hills show last September, Alex had wandered across the stage and was closer to Ged's keyboard when he flicked his pick at half-time. Low light, failing eye-sight and slower-than-my-former-goalie-quick reflexes had the frisbeeing plastic discette float about 1 inch above my outstretched hand. It zipped past me and landed two rows behind... and NOBODY saw that this had happened. I took a look around to see who was where and if anybody was scurrying on hands and knees to retrieve the unclaimed treasure... but NO... nobody moving. I thought about sort of wandering back to crawl around but saw a young man hanging right where the pick had landed so I waved at him and yelled at him to look down. "What?!" "Alex tossed his pick this way and it landed at your feet... look down!" He looked down, scoured the floor and came up with GOLD! He held it up and waved and gave me huge mouthed "THANK YOU! Today is my birthday... this is PERFECT! Thank you!" I watched him show the folks around him, all giving him pats on back and high fives, and older gent ( I assume his dad ) looked my way with a thumbs up and a "Thanks!" as well... I would have loved to catch that thing but felt all warm and fuzzy that a young fan with many more years to appreciate his birthday gift landed that gem. All reports have been excellent! My checkout for Hamilton was 12:04 and I was 4th row just Geddy of center. For Grand Rapids I bought my VIP ticks the day after they went on sale and was still 8th row dead center.... I have seen lots of front, 2nd & 3rd row, center seats handed out at the VIP Nation ticket window... If you checked out within a minute or two, I'd be surprised if you're not within 5 rows or better.... I'd really dig a debut album medley. Something like they did for R30 but keep it to just the 1974 Rush album that will 40 years old at that point. Hell, I'd settle for a 20 album all-medley show... get pieces of EVERY song from their catalog in one show... I'd like that. I know there are medley haters out there but I've always enjoyed getting a little sample of many tunes versus the entirety of a select few. How cool would a Rivendell/Tears/TaiShan mash-up be, LIVE?!
