No mention of the Odyssey in Belfast yet, but the O2 in Dublin is a superb venue. Remodelled, with great facilities and superb acoustics!!

Day 9 and hanging in there. A bit better this week than last week, but nowhere near out of the woods yet. The patches are taking the edge off, but the biggest battle is with my own mind.

OK, if no-one minds, I'm resurrecting this thread because as of 23.59 last night, I have smoked my last cigarette.

 

I'm wearing the patch, on the basis that my last quit attempt was using the gum, but the problem was I found it reinforced the need for gratifiction - I had a craving, I acted. For the same reason, I decided against the inhalator, because it seems to me that reinforces the habit - Feel the need, take a drag.

 

The idea with the patch is it's there, and if I feel the urge, I have to deal with that, knowing that the patch is delivering nicotine, and it's down to me to handle everything else.

Bill Bailey is a genius of the highest order. I'm involved with my local theatre, and when we held a comedy festival a few years ago, I not only had the honour of meeting Bill, I got to introduce him on stage.

 

It was an epic performance.

 

The second time I saw him was at the Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in Kilkenny in the back room of a bar. His act was basically a condensed version of the Part Troll show, and culminated with his Kraftwerk tribute, which I hadn't seen before.

Now, seeing as I have a Hokey Cokey quote in my sig by Mr Billy Bragg, it's a nice segue into the next clip. Any Bill Bailey fans on this side of the pond will be familiar with his tribute to "the other BB". Now, Billy has a great sense of humour, so it's no surprise that this happened two years ago at Glastonbury

Nothing much to add to the previous tributes. I've always loved the first album, and Here Again has always been one of my favourite Rush songs. I concur with the earlier comments about his dignified silence,something that a lot of today's 'celebs' could learn from.

 

Like many others on the board, I've made jokes about John in the past, but I think they've always been underscored with a sense of affection.

 

When John saw the potential for success, he stepped aside rather than stand in the way. That can't have been an easy decision to make, and fr that alone, he deserves the eternal respect of the Rushian community.

 

RIP John.

Actually, that list should be sub-titled "Every book Madra loved between the ages of 17 and 22 was actually crap!"

 

I loved Colin Wilson in my late teens, and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintainence was my favourite book for many years.

 

I agree with Test - The omission of Orwell is a glaring one (although I'd go for 1984 over Animal Farm). The other really glaring omission that jumps out at me is Franz Kafka's "The Trial".

I wondered about Aaron, but as he was born on the island, I wasn't sure he would be counted as he obviously wasn't on the passenger manifest.

 

I also have a sneaking suspicion they have something up their sleeves for Sawyer. He's been very much in the background so far in Series Four.

This may be a dumb question, but who is the final member of the "Oceanic Six". Catching up on the thread, I noticed one of Jack's March posts contained a spoiler reference to finding out who the last two members were in the Sun / Jin episode.

 

The impression given through the episode was that they were both survivors, but while Sun's scenes were flash forwards, Jin's were a brilliantly deceptive flash back.

 

So, we know that Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid and Sun survived. Who is the sixth?.

 

The other interesting thing is that in one episode, there was a reference to eight survivors coming off the island, two of whom presumably die before reaching safety. I'm wondering if Michael survives initially, but is killed, hence it is his coffin that Jack visits at the end of Series 3.

The one that springs to mind with me more than any other is Angel Heart (Alan Parker 1987). When it finished, I had to try to remember what town I was in.

 

Still one of my all time favourite films.
