  1. I can remember seeing "The Glass Bottom Boat" when I was 4 (back in 1967). It came on TV, and I can still recall watching Doris Day in the flick.

The first movie I ever saw at a theater was "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World." Can't remember when, but I think I was 6.

    Snow!!!

You lucky central Alabama people. We didn't get a flake of snow in northeast Mississippi. Meanwhile, Hattiesburg got three inches.

Three freakin' inches in Hattiesburg! Something just ain't right.

  3. Most of what I see on this thread are nature- or portrait-type shots. I like taking news-type photos.

  5. Late one night, my friends and I visited the gravesite of William Faulkner in Oxford, Mississippi. We sat around the site drinking even more and telling Faulkner ghost stories. Then, about 2 a.m., we rode out to his home - Rowan Oak - to chase those ghosts around the darkened grounds. I was so full of booze, I took a nice long piss off the front porch. I truly believe ole Bill Faulkner was there in spirit, just like he did years ago, relieving himself of the whiskey he used to slam down before writing.

What's the darkest day in Dallas Cowboys history?

    A) Losing to Green Bay in the Ice Bowl

B ) Jackie Smith dropped the potential game-winning TD pass in the Super Bowl

    C) When Jerry Jones fired Tom Landry

    D) When Jerry Jones fired Jimmy Johnson

    E) When Tony met Jessica

    I think we have a winner ....

I think every Ole Miss grad (including yours truly and Eli) has worn that "Eli S**t-Faced Look" at least once during their years in Oxford. I lost count after my first week on campus. trink39.gif

  9. The first Rush album I bought was Permanent Waves.

I kept hearing The Spirit of Radio, Freewill and Entre Nous on WLS in Chicago, and it inspired me to buy the album.

It wasn't too long after buying PWaves that I heard 2112 on 8-track. And when Moving Pictures was released, I immediately bought it.

  10. My top seven concert experiences. Involves not only the show, but events/incidents before, during and after:

    1. Rush, April 1981, Memphis. (Left school early to see Rush for first time - and it was my 18th birthday)

    2. Hank Williams Jr., 1982, Starkville, MS (I was left behind after the show, so I had to catch a ride home - about 40 miles away - with a highway patrolman)

    3. Rush, June 2007, Atlanta (meeting other fans at pre-show party)

    T4. Ozzfest, 2004, Nashville. A great father-son bonding moment.

T4. Van's Warped Tour, 2005-07, Atlanta. Great father-daughter bonding moments.

    6. Allman Brothers/Lynyrd Skynyrd, May 2005, Tupelo, MS. Had a teacher from my children's high school rub her bosom on me and ask if I'd remember her "babies" in the morning.

    7. Rush, May 2004, Nashville. (R30 opener, Decided the day before I could make the show, drive 4 hours home after it, and then run a golf tournament the next day).

in high school you tried to get your english teacher to use Neil's lyrics as an example of poetry

I did that in college, and it worked.

My community college English prof wanted an example of alliteration, and I wrote these lines from Jacob's Ladder...

"As they look to the skies

    The shifting shafts of shining

Weave the fabric of their dreams..."

I used a Rush lyric for another poetry form, but I can't remember which form or the song.

Anyway, the prof was an open-minded lady and thought using rock lyrics was cool. I got an "A" on the project.

  13. I have to share my experiences before, during and after my first Rush concert in April 1981, during the Moving Pictures tour. Excuse me if I get longwinded; I'm a journalist by trade.

My cousin and I - both seniors in high school - managed to talk our way out of school at lunchtime so we can hit the road for the two-hour trip to Memphis. I considered the concert my 18th birthday gift. About halfway there and after numerous alcoholic beverages, we decided to relieve ourselves. We pulled over on a rural county road, found some roadside bushes and did our business. It was a few years later that I realized I had pissed about 50 yards from my future wife's home.

When we reached Memphis we heard some disturbing news from the local rock station - the concert was sold out! This was serious business because I was hooking up with Sherrie H., this really nice looking babe from Forrest City, Ark., whom I met at a Blue Oyster Cult concert on New Year's Eve. We hightailed it to the coliseum and luckily a few tickets from remote outlets came straggling in. I hooked up with my date and into the coliseum we went.

Sherrie and I wanted some privacy during the show, so we went up to the upper level. From our view you could see the band on stage, plus the video projections and road crew behind the stage. It was interesting to see Alex play La Villa Strangiato near the end and at the same time watch the road crew begin loading equipment. Of course, there were times when we weren't watching the show. drool1.gif

After the show, I said my goodbyes to Sherrie - and unfortunately I never saw her again. We lost contact a couple of months later, but I've always wondered what happened to her. My cousin and I wound up staying at a friend's apartment, and the next morning - on Good Friday - I talked my cousin to taking me over to an on-again, off-again girlfriend's home, and I enjoyed spending some quality time with her. wub.gif

My first Rush concert experience was one of the highlights of my youth, and I still have the Moving Pictures T-shirt I bought at the concert. It's tattered somewhat and it's been years since I was slim enough to fit it in, but, oh, the memories ....

  14. Janice's father, Johnny Boy Soprano, didn't get whacked. He died of emphysema. But I think she saw him get busted at a carnival that was actually a Jersey mob meeting. The guys brought their daughters along as a cover.
