Nice pick up from the Cowboys in Greg Ellis. He still has a couple of good years left in the tank. He put in a lot of good years with my Cowboys and I wish him well in Oakland - feel a little sorry for him though!

QUOTE (Der Trommler @ Apr 14 2009, 11:57 AM) QUOTE (Syrinx @ Mar 31 2009, 01:45 PM) No one ever complained about John Bonham's footwork with his squeaky Ludwig Speed King single pedal! That SQUEAK!!!!! It drove me nuts! I could hear it all the time. Didn't anyone ever go up to his pedal & use some DW-40?! He might have gotten faster too
That my friend was the magic of music back then!! It was raw but genuine. Now everything is so over produced, many "artists" don't even have to know how to play their instruments or be able to sing.

Warning!! There is a guy selling three different "signed" albums on ebay right now. If you compare the three albums, the signatures are not even close on each one. All a wise bidder has to do is look at all three and the warning flags should go up. Yet he still has opening bids

For what it's worth, Jebren knows what he is talking about. If you got them in person and they are a prized possession that's great. But you would have a very hard time selling that album because they do look nothing like their real signatures. As for the guy who isn't happy with Jebren's analysis, why would you send the photo to him for authentication if you didn't want to hear his opinion. 99% of the Rush autographs on Ebay and elsewhere are forgeries. I have informed many people over the years and some have been quite upset - it never feels good to know you were ripped off. Many times I have stopped people before they sent their money. I am more of an expert on Neil and I can tell you he has signed the same way since he joined the band. I have a copy of his signature from when he was in high school and again it is very similar. The one on that album is not close. If you actually handed the item directly to the boys and they signed right in front of you, then it is authentic. Otherwise the only way to determine authenticity is to do extensive research and comparison. There are a few people who know Rush autographs and Jebren is one of them.

I hate to say it because you got them "in person", but they have never signed like that and I have signatures from all stages of their career. I know that signatures may change slightly over 20-30 years, but not this much. Like Jebren said, these aren't even close.

Wow I hadn't heard that. Very sad and a huge loss to the drum world!

Thanks for that!! That Presto kit is beautiful. Any idea if it is being produced in numbers - limited edition I would guess.

I have been a fan since the mid 70's. I was at Massey Hall for the ATWAS shows. I saw them many times at Maple Leaf Gardens in the late 70's / early 80's. I distinctly remember being at Sam the Recordman the week both Fly By Night and Caress of Steel were released. Good times!

I voted Danny Carey as well. The guy is an absolute monster. Half the time I have no idea what the hell he is doing. Very complex and his double bass drumming is unmatched.

RIP John.
I agree with the above. He could have been another Pete Best, but he chose to just live his life.

How the heck did you dig up this thread after several years??? I almost had a heart attack until I realized it was the old thread. See my avatar. And no I wasn't the winning bidder of the auction, but I did end up with the head and timbale.

We covered Working Man in a band I was in in 1976. I was the drummer. For some reason after that first album, the drumming was always more difficult to figure out. Never been able to put my finger on the reason

Neil uses dancing shoes and swears by them. I like socks myself.

I have a Roland kit and it is the best investment I have ever made! I use it literally every day, usually at 5:00am. I can bash away without waking up the family. The response is fantastic although it is different from an acoustic kit. You get more bounce off the mesh pads. The rubber cymbals take some getting used to but work great. The biggest problem with the hi hat is you may get some wrist soreness from hitting it a lot. It doesn't have the give of a normal hi hat. Response of the pedal is great. Over all I highly recommend an electronic kit for practice if noise is a problem. I don't know the Yamaha kit. All I can recommend is that you get what you pay for - spend a little more money for a higher end kit and it will be worth it.

Where did they play in Vegas?

Alex is by far the most comfortable and naturally nice, in person.

$2000 with VERY BAD forged signatures to boot!!!!

That's too bad. I collect Neil Peart items and I have to think this guitar was worth more than what it went for. Re: Ebay searches. If you search the Ebay USA main site, you should get the Candian listings.

QUOTE (D-13 @ Apr 11 2007, 04:09 PM) Why the hell would someone want a copy of a kit? It is still an actual top end DW kit. Not like it is a copy that you can't use. Yes drums are personal and yes it is expensive, but if money was no object it would be nice to have - that's all.
-
I have to admit that if I had all the money in the world, I would buy one of these sets. It would look great in the middle of my Neil Peart collection. I would probably continue to use my own set of DW's for gigs etc., but it would be a lot of fun playing the Peart set every once in a while!

I was going to stay away from this one because these topics always generate some really silly posts. I know many drummers who prefer John Bonham over Neil hands down. Doesn't make them right. This is absolutely subjective and no proper comparison can be done. All I know is that in any list of top ten rock drummers of all time, that I have seen, both these guys appear. The order is subject to the author's personal opinion. They are both in my top 5, along with Keith Moon and Stewart Copeland. The 5th changes all the time - Danny Carey has been in there often. But then again, it doesn't make me right.

Wow do you people have families and jobs!? I put in a half hour to 45 minutes on my electronic drums, usually at 5:00 am.
