  1. I was worried the sound in the arena would be shitty but I was pleasantly surprised to find out I could hear pretty much everything clearly. The new songs were awesome live and I love when they put a drum solo in the middle of a song and then come back and finish the song after the solo (i.e., as they did in Where's My Thing?). Another great show. Can't wait for the next tour.

Only part I didn't like was in Analog Kid when Geddy changed "baseball cap" to "Phillies Cap." As a Mets fan that made my skin crawl for second. wink.gif

My top 15 of the year:

    Milk
    Frost/Nixon
    The Wrestler
    Doubt
    Let The Right One In
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
    The Class
    Wall-E
    I've Loved You So Long
    The Dark Knight
    Revolutionary Road
    Waltz With Bashir
    The Reader
    Slumdog Millionaire
    Rachel Getting Married

So, needless to say, I don't exactly agree with the Academy's choices. laugh.gif

I wouldn't say that. You've named a bunch of films which have been recognized with nominations.

    Yep.

Has anyone seen Slumdog Millionaire? I had never heard of this movie prior to the Golden Globes. Is it really that good?

    No

Let's keep this simple: I'm not interested in this film because first of all I'm not interested at all in the Indian version of the quiz show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire." I'm also not interested in the UK version or the US version either, nor the martian or saturnian versions if they're out there. So seeing a film about it really doesn't perk my interest in the slightest, in fact I don't want to see anything that reminds me of that show ever again.

it's not about the show. it's about how the contestant knows the answers because he's been lucky enough to learn them throughout his rough life. relatively little time actually takes place on the game show set.

try to see a movie before you bash it

  4. i didn't like it very much. i thought it was an overrated cidade de deus ripoff that didn't have the guts to be as real as cidade. sometimes it's very real and depressing and then it's a fairy tale where the main character chases after the girl he thinks he loves (he seems to love her because she's the only female character in the movie).

imo, milk and the wrestler were much better (especially the wrestler).

  5. johan is god. period.

the cubs are beating the brewers pretty easily. they haven't gotten any hits off of ted lilly. the filthies are beating the nats 3-1. if they win they win the mets are eliminated from the division.

this is exciting but nerve-wracking at the same time.

Slaughterhouse Five is necessary reading for any human being who has a pulse, but I think any book that could be assigned reading in school is no longer in "cult" territory.

slaughterhouse-five is one of my favorite books from my favorite author. i immediately though of it when i saw this thread and sure enough it was the first one on the list.

the thing about your comment is that slaughterhouse five was assigned as summer reading for my 12th grade english class. so was the stranger by camus. two life changing books though.

    HOMERUN !!!
What a bullsit call ! Getting the call right, then asking the other idiots for help and having some old f**k change the call to the wrong one. That blind old bastard did not see shit, what the hell would he over turn the call of the umpire standing on the left field line ? Bring in instant replay ! Its time to get with the program, these umps suck !!!
Thank god the Mets smoked the Yankees so it it did not matter in the end. Thank god for the umpires, morons !

I was shouting about that last month on the MLB thread when a Cubs ball that clearly hit the foul pole on an HD replay was called a homer by one ump and no other umps saw it to over-rule and the Cubs won by one run. I just heard on the tv yesterday that the owners were discussing that and it seemed the majority want HR replay, and it may be reality as soon as next year! Good. A clearly written rule for HR only replays. trink38.gif trink38.gif

i don't really think that it should be just for home runs. bang-bang plays at second, catches that may have been trapped, plays at the plate, and many other kinds of plays are just as important as home runs. why should just home runs be reviewed.

    that's why i don't think they're should be replay

  9. can someone explain to me how tone works on an electric guitar. i've been playing for a few years now for fun but i've never really bothered understanding tone. i have a fender strat with two humbuckers. any explanation would be appreciated. thanks.
  10. i've come to terms with the idea that the 2008 mets are mediocre. they are nowhere near the powerhouse they were in 2006 or the decent team they were in 2007.

but then again the season is only a quarter way through so who knows......

  11. i can't see how this movie could disappoint. the first one was great and this one looks even better thanks in no small part to ledger's performance. i've always seen the joker portrayed as a sharp dressed man with perfect makeup. ledger truly looks like he's out of his mind.
