Hey Barney! :hail:
Hope the family, running, and reading are all good! :)
Soooooo....I'm a bit rusty but try this one:
Would you rather spend 24 hours inside a 6' x 6' cell smothered in melted cheese with 1,000 starving rats OR eat nothing but deep fried rats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 24 consecutive days?
[i'm sure I don't need to mention it but "neither", "I'd rather kill myself", or any other wuss out answer isn't acceptable] ;)
Deep friend rats, no question.

I don't think we've met. When was the last time you logged in?

^^ As if time stood still, I suffered another heat stroke and DNF. Then an injury in the fall, but I managed to beat my previous year's half-marathon time by 3 seconds (1:25:46).
Then came long months of physio, saw my times slow down and I contemplated retiring.
But then, I noticed I could sustain a long pace. I joined a local running club, and trained for my first marathon.
A few weeks ago, I ran my first. I ran 3:15:38, missing my current age group BQ, but I am good for 2018 Boston since I beat my next year's age group by 9:22. See you guys in Boston in 2018.

So how did you go, barney? I did a VERY LOOSE 8km last night, the last run I´ll do prior to the marathon on Sunday. I´m so ready that I could do it all right now!!!8k race this friday, the same one I suffered the heat stroke in 2012 and was rushed to the hospital (posted in this thread about it if you look back). Wish me luck!
Hey man, race is tonight. I have a goal of 31-32 minutes. I have a feeling I will finish around 31:30, if I am lucky under 31 minutes.

10 miles, 1:06:5x. Not great time, but took it easy. This puts me almost 500 miles on the year, right on track for 1000 miles.

Pouring rain the past few days. This month, with all the Rushs hows, I have not been productive at all.

I was at both, FL38 on Wed, FL18 on Fri.... boy Fri was a hell of a lot better. Better seats, better setlest. I saw Wed with my guy friends, and Fri with iluvgeddy from here. Both were fun in different ways.

In honor of the tour, I am reading Contents Under Pressure , 30 years of Rush at Home and Away :dweez:
Saw the author at Rushcon, and then at the show last weekend.

QUOTE (metaldad @ Oct 21 2011, 04:16 PM) QUOTE (barney_rebel @ Oct 1 2011, 08:20 PM)
I was so blown away by MA's playing and I asked them WTF? Why is he so good all of a sudden.
They basically said "Don't you know? Eddie kept him under wraps so he wouldn't take away from his guitar work, thus all the attention. That's pretty much common knowledge for the VH fans."
That is pure Bullshit. Ed has been trying to get Billy Sheehan in V H since 1980. Ask Billy if you ever meet him, I did . Every tour/ album since 1980 and Billy still said no. I am sure you can find it online as well. Why would Ed hold MA back and try to get a bass player with 10 times the talent
Any idea why Sheehan kept saying no? Seems like he turned down a dream gig and he wasn't as if in a band that was doing anything much at the time...
Still bullshit?

So my 5k went well. Not the time I wanted 19:14. I really wanted to break the 19:00 mark, but partied too much last night.
Still good enough for first place. The I was with the second place guy for about 3k before I broke free.

Barney, your pace never ceases to amaze me!!!
Interesting book title...is it good? Years ago I read Haruki Murakami's autobiography, "What I talk about when I talk about running". Very cool.
So far this book is pretty interesting. 1/4 in and it basically just praises the technique... no real instruction yet.
I read Murakami's book last fall. Pretty good. Some great quotes from him.
Check out Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. That is one book every runner should read.

It was pretty good, some stories much better than others. I thought the Tom Sawyer one was pretty neat.
Losing It was fantastic.
