Have you looked at any of their other lists?  Rush is 97 on the Greatest Artists of Rock.  Cracker please!

Cracker? They're ok - I have Kerosene Hat, but.... Greatest Artists of Rock? no.gif

Are you serious? I didn't mean the band. Since I won't post "ni@@a please!" an adequate substitute is "cracker please!"

  2. This list is a joke. They lose all credibility simply by putting Ringo Starr at number 13!

  3. The songs that I'd love to hear again on the 2012-2013 tour:

    The Analog Kid

    The Camera Eye

    Driven

    The Fear "Trilogy"

The songs that I DON'T want to hear again on the 2012-2013 tour:

    Faithless

    Armor And Sword

    Resist

The Speed of Love (I know they've never played this live and I hope they NEVER do.)

Working Man (not a bad song, I'm just tired of it.)

Freewill (a great song but I'm tired of it too.)

Jacob's Ladder (not a bad song but just a bit too boring for a live show.)

  4. I've also wondered who came up with which riff or chord progression. It's nearly impossible to know for sure since they typically both get writing credit for the music. One exception that comes to mind is YYZ. Alex does not have a writing credit so we know that Geddy came up with the main riff as well as the rest of it except for the Morse code part at the beginning.

If you listen to Alex and Geddy's solo albums you can get a better idea of what kind of songs they'd write on their own. I get the impression that Geddy writes more straight up riffs and Alex comes up with more of the odd time signature stuff.

I would love to be a fly on the wall when Alex and Geddy get together to write songs. I'd love to see their process.

  5. I would love to hear The Analog Kid again. It's been a while since they played it live and as I recall it sounded great!

I wouldn't expect to hear Middletown Dreams again but you never know. On each tour there are always one or two songs that have me thinking "why the hell did they choose this song?! Snore!"

Good Lord!  Someone makes a chart with their ideas of what metal is and it's automatically definitive?  We can list plenty of metal bands that are not on this chart so it is obviously far from definitive.

Lighten up, it's just for fun. Nobody is suggesting that this chart accurately sums up the whole of heavy metal over the past 40 years. That I called it "definitive" was a little joke, that's all.

I thought a discussion board was for people to have discussions. Would you rather just have everyone agree with you? That sure would be boring.

As far as Rush goes, they are NOT a metal band. There are a handful of songs and parts of songs from earlier in their career that are kinda-sorta metalish. But in the last 30 years they have not recorded anything that is heavy enough to be considered metal. They are a great ROCK band, no doubt about that. Some call them progressive rock. I would go so far as to call them hard rock (at times), but metal? No.

  8. I especially like the older songs that have lyrics that still ring true today like Anthem and Something for Nothing. One of my personal favs is:

"Begging hands and bleeding hearts will only cry out for more"

  9. There are only two songs that they are guaranteed to play: TSOR and Tom Sawyer. Everything else is on the chopping block. I do hope that they have a renewed appreciation for The Camera Eye and decide to play it again on the next tour. Everything else from MP can go to make room for other songs.

  10. Would everyone just calm down. You're getting excited about unofficial hearsay. Schedules change all the time and it will probably change again. I think it's best to wait until official tour information is released.
