It’s tough to predict what they'll choose as their opener. I never would have guessed that they would ever open with Tom Sawyer, Limelight or Subdivisions. Those were very odd choices IMHO. I always thought that Analog Kid would be an awesome opener. It’s up tempo and it starts with a punch. For their next tour assuming they choose something they have never opened with before, I think Caravan or Headlong Flight would be great as an opener. (I’ll continue to hope for Analog Kid.)

If you’re an adult then you should have a thick enough skin so anyone can say anything to you and you won’t fly off the handle.

Pretty good, however… the bass part at the very beginning (and every time that part repeats) isn’t right. Geddy plays 1-5 chords an octave higher than that.

I wouldn’t say drop the drum solo but it should be shorter which would possibly make room for one more song. What they did on the CA tour, breaking it into THREE drum solos, I felt that was ridiculous! I appreciate them trying something different but that was a silly idea and should have been shot down.

At first I thought singing Working Man on Idol was a terrible idea simply because a lot of viewers/voters are young pop-fans who probably never heard the song before. But Caleb killed it (the band rocked too) and the audience seemed to really like it. It was probably one of the heaviest songs ever done on Idol.

 

If Caleb does another Rush song on Idol what do you think would be a good choice? I think he should choose something that more viewers would have heard before and has a good vocal melody. I think Spirit of Radio or Limelight would be good choices.

It’s only my favorite song from my favorite album from my favorite band. I recently (and finally) learned RB on bass and I have a new appreciation for the song. It’s so much fun to play and surprisingly not that difficult. There aren’t any fast runs or anything to makes you think “what the hell Geddy?” The difficulty comes from just remembering everything.

I think Geddy would do well to stop coloring his hair and just let the grey go...it'll still look good.

 

 

If Geddy stopped coloring his hair I believe he would be completely gray. I wouldn’t care but as rock stars they do have an image to maintain so I can understand the rug and hair coloring.

As I was going through my pictures from the Nashville show I noticed that Alex’s big bald spot is gone. I guess he got a hair piece. I can’t blame him. I suppose I would too if I were a rock star. Has anyone else noticed this? Has this topic come up before?

I hope I get to hear a couple/few different songs than I heard on the first leg.

I can’t remember the last time they hit the stage on time. They seem to always be fashionably late. Including the intermission, from start to finish I think the show runs just over 3 hours.

They’ll have me on one side. I’ve found that it’s pretty easy to make friends with your neighbors at a Rush show.

IMHO, I would think that the more difficult songs are not necessarily the ones with most notes played fast. I think that the more complicated arrangements and odd time signatures would make a song difficult to play. Think about the songs in which you’ve heard them make mistakes. It’s typically not YYZ or Tom Sawyer. I’ve seen/heard them make mistakes on simpler songs like Passage to Bangkok, Mission and Presto. Passage to Bangkok for example has an odd time signature during the guitar solo and it’s easy to find yourself off by a beat or two which is what happened to them.

I'm selling one (1) ticket for the Nashville show at the Bridgestone Arena on May 1. It’s a good floor seat and I’ll let it go to someone here for what I paid for it. Here are the details:

I’m planning to put it on eBay for a little bit more than that but before I do I wanted to see if anyone here would be interested.

As someone already pointed out, the GUP tour was back in the day when there was an opening band and before they did the near 3 hour “evening with Rush” tours. I was a teenager in the 80s and saw many rock shows. As I recall, the headline band typically played around 90 minutes or so.

 

By the way, my first Rush concert was GUP at Madison Square Garden in NYC. It was epic for the 16 year old Rush fanatic that I was.

I’m really surprised at how much anger the original poster seems to have toward the band. Rush has ALWAYS done what they wanted to do without concerning themselves with what others would think. Isn’t that what we LOVE about them? Their fearlessness is what allowed them to create such a wide variety of unique and interesting music. If they’re going to go on tour and play songs over and over again for months then shouldn’t they be songs that they WANT to play and enjoy playing? As far as the complaint that they’re playing too much new stuff, they’ve ALWAYS played a lot from the latest album. This is not a sudden change so I don’t understand why you’re so upset now.

 

After nearly 40 years of incredible music I feel that what we the fans should be expressing to Rush is gratitude and lots of it.

I received my tix for the Nashville show quite a while ago. I bought mine through the CitiBank presale on Ticketmaster so that’s probably why.

I will be heading to the Nashville show from Atlanta.

 

I’m wondering if most of you stay at a hotel overnight when you go out of town for a show. For me, if it’s more than a two hour drive then I get a hotel and drive home the next day.

For some reason I thought the first 15 rows were reserved for the VIP seating only.

 

I thought so too but that is apparently not the case. It seems unfair to me that you can have people up front who paid regular price while the person next to them or behind them paid the VIP price.

I just got 12th row floor on Alex’s side for the Nashville show through the Citi Card presale. There are still some decent seats on the floor and in the lower level. The interactive venue map is the way to go instead of taking what Ticketmaster thinks is the best available. However, the interactive map isn’t really working properly. I just kept trying and eventually it worked.

I see a few of you mention the specific row that you got through the presale. I assume these are VIP tickets. I thought that they don’t tell you exactly where the tickets are except for “within the first 15 rows.”

 

I got mine through the regular sale, not VIP. A buddy of mine got 7th row on Geddy's side also. We have always had luck with musictoday. We each had third row in Philly last fall.

 

I always try to get tickets as soon as they go on sale and the first 20 rows or so are always immediately gone. Are there any tricks to getting those seats without paying $300 for VIP?

I guess it will be Raleigh or Nashville, since no Atlanta, Charlotte, or Greenville. I won't be able to get pre sale tix, today, so I guess no close up seats.

 

I was also hoping for something closer to Atlanta. I’m considering the Nashville show.
