QUOTE (The_Enemy_Within @ Sep 3 2010, 06:19 PM) I'm on mobile so I don't have time to look through some of these posts, but I just wanna say that I don't think RUSH has ever "jumped the shark" ... RUSH has always done what they wanted to do... and they've been passionate it. They never do something if they don't feel it... necver done anything to please the "mainstream"... never been desperate for that. thelocator is trying WAY too hard to "prove" his point, so I finally went in and voted "Never" (which I truly believe).
not= Sellouts

QUOTE (tick @ Sep 3 2010, 06:28 PM) I think they did, big time. They were cruising along making successful album after album, until the 90's. I think it was a whole era different for the band. It was nothing the likes of which we had never heard. It was at this juncture that IMO, Rush humped the Whale. I know some will give me a hard time, and that's ok. Your all entitled to your own opinions, and I can respect them, but for me, this is a clear cut fact. But can you give us FIVE separate and distinct examples where Rush humped the humpback?

SPOILERS...
Yup, it sounded great in Auburn and Vegas! When I first heard Faithless on S&A, I thought it would sound huge live, especially the chorus when the halftime beat and strings kick in. I was kind of surprised they didn't play it on the second S&A leg, but I'm glad they played it this time out.
I did kind of think the "Unbeliever Trilogy" grouping was a bit much: Faithless, BU2B, Freewill. Not because I disagree with the lyrics like some around here. I just thought it was hammering the point home a bit more than was needed. But I didn't sense much of a lull with Faithless/BU2B, especially in Vegas, and of course Freewill brought the energy level right back up.

The damage has already been done, and it's only going downhill from here.

RUSH DiscographyWhy didn't you include Roll The Bones (album) in the poll? I think the most obvious choice for Rush jumping the shark would be the rap section during Roll The Bones (song).
I personally don't think they jumped the shark here, because that rap was just a detour in the middle of a pretty good hard rock song. But I do think this could be the most likely shark-jumping moment for many Rush fans.
BTW, I do think many hard rock bands jumped the shark in the 80s and 90s by releasing blatantly pandering power ballads: Carrie, Heaven, When the Children Cry, etc. Luckily, Rush never fell into this trap.

Yikes!
I'm no mod, but it seems like this thread has run its course.

QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Aug 24 2010, 08:01 PM) QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ Aug 24 2010, 07:14 PM) Finally.....there HAD to be someone who saw exactly what was going down... That's IF the woman standing next to nobodys hero is the OP.
I took NH's photo and enhanced the face of the woman next to her. fool4rush, is that you?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v318/1001001/TRF_Graphics/RUSH2.jpg
And a question for nobodys hero -- you pretty much answered this, but just to be clear: Did that woman next to you get hauled off by security right before the encore (or at any point during the show)?
This enhanced pic is too cool! It reminds me of something from CSI or some Discovery Channel JFK documentary.
BTW, it seems like the OP must indeed have been located near to nobodys hero. The OP calls herself a "Rushgirl" in the thread title: maybe she was thinking of nobodys hero's license plate?

Heh, I was just wondering about this myself.
Chris, what happened? Did you sell your tickets?
Did you attend the rescheduled Chicago show? Were you pelted with beer and peanuts by fans who recognized you from the interwebs?
Or did you proceed with your lawsuit, and if so what happened?
Inquiring minds want to know.

QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Aug 20 2010, 05:42 PM) QUOTE (fool4rush @ Aug 20 2010, 03:37 PM) Look folks, I don't know who Greg is, I don't know who Solaris is.........I'm just telling my story. There is no "who shot JFK", there is no conspiracy. Stalking sucks and so do mean people. Believe whatever you want, the damage has been done! you're being very vague. security grabs you for no reason, walks you out of the venue and says "rush has stalkers"...
yeah ok, and then what happened? they just told you to go back to your seat?
No, she said "it happened so fast that I was then left standing out side alone w/ no purse, no id, no renta car keys, no plane tix home..."
fool4rush, I agree that you could help us understand by offering more details about what exactly happened. Something about your account doesn't add up.
It seems illogical that security would man-handle an older female who wasn't causing any problems, throw her out of the venue, and just say that "Rush has stalkers."

http://mikephilbin.blogspot.com/2009/07/so...h-mk-ultra.htmlit all makes sense now. I knew Neil was up to shenanigans.
Just to clarify, that link was from a couple of years ago (S&A tour) when Rush security was supposedly on the lookout for Solaris Blueraven at Red Rocks after she had made some accusations against Neil and Michael Mosbach in her YouTube vids.
But I do think perhaps we're being punked here. An older female being thrown out of Red Rocks because "Rush has stalkers?"

QUOTE (shaun3701 @ Aug 19 2010, 05:35 PM) If they did, hopefully this time they would have more time to get the sound right and the camerawork a little less jumpy. And WAY less crowd noise please. I'd rather have too much noise from an enthusiastic crowd than zero noise from the half-asleep crowd on the R30 DVD.

Why am I reminded of Solaris Blueraven?

QUOTE (Nathan @ Aug 19 2010, 11:13 AM) Ever want to watch a Rush concert, but only had a minute? Well this video is for you!
I made a time lapse video of last night's concert at Red Rocks, from the amphitheatre's webcam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sGk6uyPv5QVery cool, best thing I've seen on TRF in a long time!
It looks like either a concert, or some kind of Alien visitation, a la Close Encounters or Stargate.

QUOTE (Rushchick10 @ Aug 16 2010, 10:36 PM) Out of the three shows I have seen on this tour, Vegas was definitely the best.
But, I might be a little biased...

OMG! I almost DIED when I won the Meet & Greet at the Mini-RushCon! Won it by playing a "name that tune" style game. Didn't miss any! See, being a geeky teenager finally paid off!Rushchick, it was great standing next to you at the Vegas show! And thanks for giving me a preview of your meet-and-greet pic, that was really cool.
Are you going to host your Vegas show pics and video somewhere? I'd love to get copies of your pics and vids somehow, because I didn't bring my camera to the show. If you like, please PM me and maybe we can figure something out.
Thanks,
Jim

QUOTE (Rush Cocky @ Aug 4 2010, 02:07 PM) Another speeding ticket!
My second in a month. Time to hire another attorney.......Or maybe time to stop speeding? Kidding...
My gripe: last night I almost got rear-ended turning into my own freaking driveway.
I have a neighbor who has done this to me TWICE. He tailgates me all the way the down residential surface street we live off of, tailgates me as we turn left onto our street, then tailgates me as I turn left into my damn driveway.
I always drive the speed limit in residential areas, because I don't want to kill some child or dog who runs into the street. This guy obviously doesn't give a crap. This time, he was right on my @ss so I pulled over to the right to let him pass and he floored it, swerving around to pass me on the left.
Still trying to figure out how to respond to this. It's obviously awkward because the guy lives on my street, a few houses down. If I tap my horn or brake pedal at him, I'll probably get a brick through my front window. Strange thing is, this guy is middle-aged (not a teenager) and I think even has kids. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if he ends up killing one of his own as he screeches into or out of his own driveway.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that I will sell this at 15% below my cost, in hopes that it goes to a TRF member.
This will also be about 33% below the price of the closest equivalent currently on StubHub.
Please PM me for details if you're interested.
EDIT: I'll be travelling to Seattle this weekend for the Auburn show and will have limited access to TRF, but will try to check here every couple of days. This is a first for me, two road trips for Rush on back-to-back weekends.

I have a single premium ticket package available at face value for Rush in Las Vegas. It is section Floor A (Geddy's side), row K (11). This will include the VIP merchandise, which I have not yet redeemed.
The only glitch is, I will need to pick up this ticket (and mine) at Will Call on the day of the show. (Will Call was the only delivery option for these Ticketmaster premium packages.) So we will need meet somewhere near the box office (not too near! ) before the show. I'll be flying in at 1:10PM on 8/14.
The best candidate for this ticket will be probably someone who already has their travel plans and concert ticket, but wants to upgrade their seat. I kind of resigned myself to eating the cost of this ticket, but if anyone is interested please let me know because this should be a great seat. Please PM me for more details including the price, which is admittedly .

QUOTE (MusicHead @ Jul 30 2010, 05:29 PM) Roger Dean. His Yes and Asia covers rule. Yup, despite the nerd factor thanks to 40 Year Old Virgin. "You framed an Asia poster? Seriously?" Have to admit that I have framed Relayer and Tales posters.

Tough call, but I would say Roger Dean for creating Relayer, probably my all-time favorite.

QUOTE (Pause Rewind Replay @ Jul 29 2010, 06:06 PM) Only 8 songs out of the 24 on Time Machine are from the last 20 years (Presto> Caravan/BU2B) and this place is still littered with people complaining that the setlist doesn't have enough old songs Good point.
But I do think it would be cool if they were to put up a list of, say, 20 songs to vote on that they'd be willing to play, and then play the top 5 fan picks. Something like that.

One thing to consider: bringing a kid to a Rush concert is legal; smoking weed at a Rush concert is not.
I personally don't think a kids younger than 14 or 15 should go to concerts, but they can legally buy tickets and even go without their parents.
But regardless of anyone's "opinion," smoking weed at a concert is still illegal, except maybe in California? And, yes, of course it happens, but I'm seeing (smelling) less weed use at concerts in recent years. Except at Iron Maiden a few weeks ago.
But in general, I think concerts are becoming more family-friendly, very likely because baby boomers (ARGH!) want to bring their kids along to the show.

So if we disagree with his choices and express OUR opinions, we're idiots?
Sorry, but if you put yourself out there with your very own definitive ranking of every Rush song, don't you expect to get some feedback?
