QUOTE (ArrowSnake @ Jun 9 2012, 10:03 AM) Clockwork Angels, baby!
Hell yeah!

Metacritic
in Rush
What the "heck" is Metacritic and why would anyone care if they "score" Clockwork Angels or not?
-
^----- yep! And now maybe with a draw in the books, the fans will calmTF down a bit and the violence will subside. Hopefully.
How stupid are they to book this match on "Russia Day" or whatever it is called, have it in Poland instead of Ukraine.... officially endorse this parade or whatever... just begging for retarded amounts of trouble.
-
Aye! Starting to look like we need to win our next match to advance!
-
I dunno... young squad, learning as they go, I really like their gib actually. Focussed, disciplined, no whining or diving...
They can have flashes of being really dangerous too... just gotta get out of the group stage and if we lose today we are sunk.

How could I not vote for #15?! How could I NOT?!

Yes! Nice! Glad I know someone else who is cheering as well!
As with the previous match, Poland came out flying pretty good then let it all fall to pieces, by the end they were hanging on by the skin of their teeth.
Nice solid play so far this half.
Come on guys!!!!

QUOTE (StellarJetman @ Jun 12 2012, 03:09 PM) QUOTE (Rush Cocky @ Jun 12 2012, 12:04 PM) So let's sum up the numbers....9 + 6.5 + 6 + 8.5 + 7 + 7 + 9.5 + 7 + 9 + 5.5 + 8 + 9 = 92. In my school, anything from 90-100 was an A, and so that's exactly what this album will get on it's first spin.
Final Grade = A!Yeah, but there are twelve tracks, not ten, so that's 92 out of 120, which is 76.7%. That's a far cry from an A.
Shut it!

The hard cover was a pleasant surprise for me, definitely a "little book" sort of feel.
edit: and yeah mine came with the fan pack, not sure whether they *only* come with the fan pack though.

No surprise the assholes couldn't even get the name of the album right!
Between Revolver Mag and The Golden Gods Awards, it's nice to know that everyone is sick of the garbage from RRHOF and these clowns.

QUOTE (Rush Cocky @ Jun 12 2012, 02:04 PM) Caravan - Of course, I've heard this a hundred times already, but the mix on the CD version is very good, I can hear stuff that I couldn't previously on the single. And this song is definitely among my favorites on this disc. My rating (on a scale of 1-10) = 9. This is among the best 10% of tunes Rush has ever done.
BU2B - Same as Caravan, except that I never have liked this song as much, primarily because I don't care for the lyrical message. The bluesy beginning was pretty cool! My rating = 6.5
Clockwork Angels - Here we go...new material at last! Oh WOW....nice start, love how it builds....and then this song is kind of all over the place. At least that's my first reaction. Overall, a very interesting tune stylistically. It kind of reminds me of "Another Dimension" by Liquid Tension Experiment in how it morphs from one style to another. My initial rating = 6. I think this one's going to have to grow on me.
The Anarchist - Love the start of this one, first minute and a half. Wow, this song is really jamming. And then they bring it down at points, for some great dynamics. LOVE IT. It's almost as strong a track as Caravan. My rating = 8.5.
Carnies - Sweet blending in from the previous song...nice rocking start! OK, this song is better than the samples indicated. Loved the change from the 3 minute to 4 minute mark or so. The abrupt end is a plus. My rating = 7 for this one.
Halo Effect - This song starts off very 2112-like, and then I LOVE the chorus! OK, at 2:12, I hear some elements from Snakes & Arrows there. Nice ending too. My rating = 7.
Seven Cities of Gold - The funky beginning is AWESOME! Love the flow of the tune, this is classic Rush.....what a fantastic job! My rating = 9.5.
The Wreckers - Nice tune, I like this one as well. Sounds like it could have been on "My Favorite Headache". Love the interlude with the build right before the 3 minute mark! And then back to the original. Good solid song....My rating = 7.
Headlong Flight - The OTHER song that we've heard from this album. OH MAN, this thing is still fantastic, and I love everything about it. This song would be great to work out to...something to keep in mind since I'm getting ready to join the gym again. My rating = 9.
BU2B2 - Clunk. Not a big fan of this one at all. It probably fits the flow of the album, and I'm sure I'll appreciate it more later, but for right now it sounds like whining to me. The strings were kind of interesting, so that bumps it a tad. My rating = 5.5.
Wish Them Well - Oh MAN, ANOTHER standout track! Geez, this one is so in your face, I LOVE IT! My rating = 8. And this has a chance to grow.
The Garden - WOW.....I'm going to cry. Seriously, I'm getting goose bumps from these melodies. Just WOW. What a masterpiece of an album. On this one, my rating = 9.
So let's sum up the numbers....9 + 6.5 + 6 + 8.5 + 7 + 7 + 9.5 + 7 + 9 + 5.5 + 8 + 9 = 92. In my school, anything from 90-100 was an A, and so that's exactly what this album will get on it's first spin.
Final Grade = A!Great breakdown and sounds like an exciting first listening!
I disagree with two of your scores. BU2B clearly (to me) is an interlude, really brings out the despair of the main character who for whatever reason feels his whole belief system come crashing down on him. This is a play on the more bold/upbeat hopefulness of BU2B, but the roof comes crashing down. So I would say it is not supposed to sound fun or happy or triumphant or anything like that, I would guess the end result is precisely what they needed for that part of the concept, the turning point if you will. That and the fact that it is so short feels as though the low score on this shouldn't get the weight of the good scores for longer tracks.
The Garden? Clearly you are dead wrong or made a weird typo. That song is most clearly a 10!
Thanks for sharing you thoughts!

QUOTE (Gompers @ Jun 12 2012, 01:51 PM) QUOTE (ILSnwdog @ Jun 12 2012, 01:50 PM) I snuck out of the office earlier and ran out to best buy to pick up the CD (yes, I'm late to the party). So far, I'm a little let down. I was hoping for some serious rocking out, and I'm not hearing that. Of course, it's not uncommon for me to take a few listens to warm up to a Rush release. I'm hoping that is the case here. Plus, I'm listening to it through the speakers on my lap top. Hopefully playing it on the stereo at home will change my initial opinion a bit. It will.
Yes it will. My first listen... the mood I was in, the environment for listening (highway Jeep top down), trying to take it all in... I was a bit down on it too at first, to the point I didn't comment here until I had a chance to digest it a bit.
Next day, second listen, better setup.... blown away compared to the first time.
Now after ~5 complete listens I can't shut up about how much I love the majority of it.
Fret not!

QUOTE (marblesmike @ Jun 12 2012, 01:41 PM) I'm not a troll. I love the album. It's amazing. I'm saying the pressing quality of the vinyl sucks. Not the mastering/mixing, but the actually pressing from the pressing plant. How is that trolling? Read the post that I quoted (about the vinyl copy looking great) and me responding "except it sounds like crap," it being the vinyl.
Some of you people really drink the kool-aid.Sorry Mike, I misunderstood what you were saying and for that I apologize.

QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jun 12 2012, 01:37 PM) Well...I can't figure out if he means that the VINYL version sounds bad, or if the entire CA album in general sounds bad.
That might clear up alot!Yes perhaps you are right, you are always the reasonable one!
We'll have to wait and see if mike chimes in again.

QUOTE (marblesmike @ Jun 12 2012, 01:26 PM) Except that it sounds like crap. You know with some people I am actually GLAD you don't/can't/won't enjoy this wonderful music. The joke is on you brother.

He should know that Rush will probably never have another opening band anyway. Hahaha well it was kind of funny to hear the front man for the extraordinarily popular Pumpkins to grovel and ask if they could ever open for them! I think it was actually just a bit of a joke what with his weird sense of humor.
Great interview though, thoroughly enjoyed listening to that last night!
That's what I gathered too.
Yeah as a matter of fact Geddy and Alex kind of put HIM on the spot at the end where they turned the tables and started grilling/interviewing him about his new album.
Unless of course that was also planned.

QUOTE (Cygnus The God Of Balance @ Jun 12 2012, 12:59 PM) I don't really know how to express how absolutely beautiful The Garden is to me. It is like nothing Rush has ever done. Lyrically, Neil is at perhaps his most poignant ever, ("The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect/So hard to earn, so easily burned" might be the greatest lyric ever written by Pratt) and Ged's voice is just so lilting it adds a whole unique feel to this song. And I think Al's solo is just simply amazing and adds just the right touch. Great comments all around, but this bit I could not possibly agree more with you.

Hahaha! Great story!
What unlucky DVD scored you two copies of Clockwork Angels?

QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Jun 10 2012, 11:27 PM) I've never cried to a Rush song either (have to some other artists/songs), but I can understand being moved by a lyric, a melody, a moment in your life that gels with some song you're listening to. It's not silly at all. Music is a very powerful art. Why can't that be a Rush song to someone? I'm not whatsoever an emotional person but twice in my life I've been overwhelmed by a song.
The first time was hearing the live version of Resist for the first time, a short time after a couple of my best friends passed away in a cottage fire.
The second time was the past week, hearing "The Garden" for the first time absolutely floored me. The most emotionally powerful new Rush song I've ever heard since getting into Rush.
A couple of the side B tracks still are not grabbing me like the rest of the album, but it's still early and I can't stop listening to this baby.
