  1. I was reading In Cold Blood while Hurricane Frances was churning through FL. I thought it was good, although it didn't move terribly fast, and a tree came crashing through my house causing about $80,000.00 in damage (I don't blame the book). One of my friends recommended The Devil in the White City but I never got around to reading it.

I also read Under The Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer the same guy who wrote Into The Wild. It was a true crime story intermingled with a lot of stuff about the mormon church, although it was based on a crime.

I could probably get into true crime as I prefer non-fiction to fiction, and believe it or not, I find people being really rotten to other people fascinating, although horrendously morbid.

I remember you saying you wanted to write a turn-o-the century true crime story, I'll check out what you have.

"Takei and Altman had previously stated that Shatner was invited to their wedding, but he never RSVPed."
"It is unfortunate that Bill was unable to join us for our wedding as he indeed was invited to attend" Takei responded from APnews article confused13.gif
Don't know who cares but Takei certainly has some issues against Shatner, I remember George Takei was on Howard Stern and just ripped him to pieces(Bill's a lonely man, horrible actor , arrogant egomaniac- It's all about him) that kind of stuff very funny. Made even funnier when Howard had Shatner on not long after, and asked how he got along with George, When he told him fine .. Howard played back Takei rant against him. Bill's jaw dropped he truly was shocked and suprised! laugh.gif
That Rush guitarist could be Billy Shatners double.. bolt.gif

I'm at odds with Joker being released from Arkhum. confused13.gif

Even if he's cured, they would NEVER release him to freedom. no.gif

But since this is a graphic novel, and not straight continuity, I can get over it. Maybe.

    I HEAR YA!!!!

    PREPOSTEROUS!!!!

    End of graphic novel.

Someone has a picture in their signature with Lerxst clearly playing one of those.

Alex has played them for the past two tours. There's tons of pics showing him playing either the black one or the sunburst one.

I understand, but what I'm saying is...there is a member of TRF who, as their signature has a picture of Lerxst playing one..it's a really cool pic too, clearly showcasing the LP avec FR.

I saw a documentary about the making of this. The thing I found most disturbing is that these guys just sat there with their cameras aimed at people jumping and never stepped in to do anything about it. I'm sure they could have cell phoned someone. There is bridge security from what I seen on the documentary.

    Sad, either way.

They actually had the police on speed dial on their phones and saved 6 people from jumping, one person twice.

Don't know if you watched any of the film, but when the people decided to jump, there is really no force on Earth that could stop them save another pedestrian (which actually did happen in the film).

Literally, in most cases, the jumper is standing on one side of the railing looking like any of the other hundereds of people on the bridge, and within 5 seconds they are on their way down. It is amazing in that these people have absolutely made up their minds and nothing is gonna stop them.

I heard about this on The Howard Stern Show a couple of weeks ago. Robin Quivers said even though she couldn't understand a word of it, it was one of the scariest movies she has ever seen.

    Looks scaaaarrrrry unsure.gif

It actually wasn't this movie she was talking about but the spanish version of Quarantine.

  7. I'd heard this movie mentioned on the Howard Stern Show a while ago and today a piece of news made me seek it out on Youtube where it is available in it's entirety in 10, 10 minute segments.

It's a sad, disturbing, though provoking, documentary some will find horrifying and disgusting, but it's well made and doesn't glorify the topic of the story....but it certainly does leave you wondering.

I force myself to finish each book but there are some I WISH i hadn't finished.

One comes to mind. The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. 973 pages about people trying to build a church back in the 1100's. It was a good story for a while then it seemed like even the author was tired of the story at the end and just rushed it to be done with it...after dragging it out 900 pages!

I know what you're saying about making yourself finish the book...but sometimes it's simply toture and I have to dump it.

    Hmmm, thank you everyone.

I would want something impressive though I think for a first guitar. (Before you ask, it isn't for me - I would be buying it for someone else.)

Any recommendations? Nothing outrageously pricing but something that says (1) this person knows guitars and (2) cool!

With guitars you get what you pay for....

    Here's a GREAT DEAL!!!!!!!!!!

That does look and sound like a great guitar! It makes me want to take guitar up again.

Yeah...I know what you are saying....LOOK...there's a "buy it now" option...that seems like a great deal...maybe you should snatch it up.

Squire is the budget brand from Fender. The quality on these vary depending upon several factors, most notably the country of manufacture. Judging by the single ply pickguard and the 1970's style headstock that is not quite the greatest guitar in the world, but I am sure that it plays and sounds like a Stratocaster. This is good for a beginner for sure.

I have two amps similar to the one pictured, solid state practice amps. again, good for a beginner.

Thank you for your input!! What about the price ($175)? Is that decent or is he asking too much you think? It's usually possible to negotiate IF you know what you're talking about.

If you have to have it today, $100.00 is a great deal in your favor...if he says no and you still HAVE to have it, offer $125.00 which is pretty fair....still a good deal if you have to have it NOW...$150..maybe consider buying new or ebay.

Any more than that and I would shop ebay which that particular guitar is all over. Squier Affinity strat. Buying new at your local Guitar Center or Sam Ash or whatever store you shop, you'll wind up paying around $175.00, probably a little more for new (guitar and amp). Plus tax.

If you have time to shop around, both items are all over ebay and you, more than likely, can find a good deal if you are patient. Just don't forget to add shipping charges.

If you are lucky and patient, you might find one of each which, when combined, come to 100-125 with shipping....but ya gotta be patient.
