  1. Yup, I was watching that HRF too. Ha.

Someone got a pretty good deal. Except for the mini toggle holes (which didn't really look "professionally filled" to me) and the iffy wording around the fret life remaining...it seemed in good shape. I paid more for mine, but it was all original and no such issues or question marks.

I haven't been on eBay as much, my GAS is way down. Kinda happy with my rig. It's a nice place to be.

  2. Yup, I think there is a spot or two in the video if ya freeze it you can see the chrome cover on the bridge PU, but not many, so I was totally sure. Just curious which gibby PU, but I don't think they had a ton of different version back then...and Bill Lawerence actually made a Gibson pickup around early 80s called the original...with the Left Right diagram on the back. Hmm.

  3. I know it's not a restore back to 1981 job, but I just love the tone this guitar had on the ESL video.

The clean sound was so good yet it had the perfect amount of crunch/balls too. Very well balanced.

I can't tell in the video if that was the gibby pickup or the BL. I kinda think it was the gibby. Was it the Super Distortion one from the HRF series or one like the ES355 I wonder? Anyone know for sure?

  4. QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 25 2012, 02:58 PM)
It's better than Grace Under Pressure which has some tunes that don't appeal to me so much like The Body Electric, Red Lenses and The Enemy Within...

The body electric is one of Alex's best solos from the 80s. I don't think there is a bad song on GUP really. PW is a tad light for my taste in parts...

Still, meh on the new album...Its in my car CD and I'm only on song 5...hoping for some better songs in the remaining bunch.

On a side note, I really like the last song on my fav headache, just heard that is week. That's a good song.

  5. Freddy does amazing work, I can't wait to see the work in progress.

Definitely hope there is a serial number on the inside somewhere, so we can solve the year...pots values, wiring, wow we have had alot of questions about this guitar here. Ha.

  6. Yes, when you have both A and B on the sustain is great..singing violin like...which I love...but the noise was bit much. The tradition BBs sound a little better that the BB+ but that is really just splitting hairs.

I thought since EJ used the AC I would like it, but im gonna sell it for the new BB with 3 different comp modes probably.

  7. Wow, so yeah lots of changes...locking nut, recessed FR, looks almost yellow now. What dimarzio is in there? (I actually love the AT1, it's a great pickup).

Definitely picks of the inners, routes, stock pickups, would be awesome.

I actually did the black one from a 77 strat, but it already had the a FR, I really just routed the switch, wiring, and changed the pickups and pick guard, and nut.

Can't wait to see more!!! Thanks

  8. Very interesting, Im a fan of xotic as well. How do you like the AC+? I was jonesing for one, but then I scored an AC and I don't like it really, it is very boomy, and harsh IMO. I love the BBs, I have a Timmons, a regular BB, and used to have the BB+. The BB+ is a great idea, but you can't really use both channels at the same time without alot of noise. I saw they have a new BB with 3 different comp settings, or I might jones for an RC after I sell the AC soon.

What are your specific thoughts on yours?

  9. Very cool, Freddie. I'm gonna keep my eye on this thread for shizzle.

I had the son of the guy who make the Shark necks email at one point but nothing came of it. I made a hentor from a stock 77 strat and wish it had a slightly flatter radius to better compliment the no fine tuners Floyd. Just something to consider..

I'd love to see Alex pull out a hentor for one song these days.

Can't wait to see pics and vies. I may have to sell some gear to fund one of these. smile.gif

  10. Depends on condition and year, but yeah, most HRF sell between 1300 and 2400. The first HRF serial #1 was posted here a few years ago. That was alot...like $5k I think.

Btw, anyone see the new AL like studio Les Paul with Floyd Rose? I think it's called the Shred Les Paul? I'm sure Cyg saw it at NAMM huh?

  11. Yes, if anyone has pics of a serial number (back of the headstock or neck plate) that would be great.

The Black PRS has the 3 way toggle not the roto knob, with a gold script sig on the headstock. I believe that makes it an earlier ce24, like 88 or 89.

The strats sn won't help as fender used a range during that time. Is is probably an S97 up to S99.

My HFR is number 8263003x, think his was a 79 or 80. They were different before then.

No clue on the 355 sn...but his luthier says it's a 1976. He is actually selling a signed AL prototype preproduction 355 (number 6 of 9) and probably used by AL but it is not cheap...way out of my range... sad.gif

  12. Some very informed folks here, so I wonder if anyone has seen a pic or read an article with Alex's serial numbers on his guitars?

I think I know the approx year of most of his axes, but I recently came across an 89 and 90 PRS CE24, and I was curious which would have been closer to his serial?

Does anyone have #s on the PRS, 355, strats? Even the range would be cool.
