  1. Single, no kids.

Thunderstorms came through this morning while I was at work, and I was hoping to ride again today after work, but now there are more thunderstorms coming through.

I managed to bag another 32 miles last night to finish May with 1010 miles. Now that I've done that once, I'm not sure if I'll try again.

Tried riding for the first time since my ruptured disc - felt good / Wasn't as winded as i thought but the pain was just to great - made it home but simply didn't enjoy it and i'm not going to ride until i can enjoy it

Sorry to hear about that. sad.gif

So i will just relax the next few weeks and soak up the Tour Of California - Planning on going to Clairmont to catch the Mt. Baldy stage - It's an HC stage so Schleck should be on fire -

Hopefully the ToC kicks ass. th1245.gif

  3. It looks like the freezing weather is finally behind us in southern NH.

April was a good month for me: I bagged over 700 miles for the month and did quite a few 100k rides.

Next Sunday is the CRW Spring Century, which will be my first century for the year.

I did a tough 57 mile ride yesterday with lots of hills (a few with 10-12% grades), and it really knocked me back down a few notches. I did a 23 mile recovery ride earlier this afternoon, and feel a little bit better now, but still ravenously hungry. I may try for another 20-35 miles before sunset.

  4. Only 45F/7C today, but I got in just under 39 miles, on a course that normally kicks the crap out of me. I only averaged 15.3 mph, but I felt good for most of the ride.

Rumor has it that we're getting more snow up here tomorrow to ring in the first day of spring. If we do, I guess I'll drag out the 20 year old beater bike again.

  5. Holy crap, that sounds like it was a blast, Ancient Ways. trink39.gif

I'm still going out and doing solo rides as time and weather permit. It's been harder due to all the melting (and cleaning the drivetrain afterward is no fun), but the snowbanks have finally melted back away from the edges of the roads, and the roads are starting to dry out.

Drier roads and an extra hour of daylight after work should make it easier to bag more miles.

Hopefully your pinched nerve gets better soon, alphseeker.

  6. Windy rides can be tough. We had some pretty strong wind up here during the last few weeks. Murphy's Law seems to win a fair amount of the time, turning every wind into a headwind, but the occasional long tailwinds rock.

I saw a family of bears a few years back towards the end of a ride. The cub hanging upside down from a tree was cute, but I was glad they weren't interested in playing "Catch the bicyclist". Hopefully that gator was far enough away to admire him without worrying about being lunch. smile.gif

Something I was aware of, but never seriously thought about attempting before, was randonneuring.

Given the early start I've gotten to this season, I may take a shot at it this year. There's a brevet series in my area that starts with a 100k ride in late March, building up to a 600k ride in June.

As the biggest ride I've ever done is 200k, I'd be satisfied just to pull off the 300k ride.

I wanted to do my first 100k ride of the season last Saturday, but I ended up sick in bed with the cold that's been making the rounds. Oh well, maybe this coming weekend. smile.gif

  7. The "Scorched Earth" way I fix such problems with Firefox/Flash/etc is to make a backup of the system (preferably a disk image rather than just creating a restore point), uninstall Firefox, delete all its directories (look under Program Files, ProgramData(Vista/7), All Users (2K/XP), and all individual user directories(2K through 7), delete all its registry entries (under HKLM, HKCU, and HKU), reboot, then reinstall Firefox, then go to Adobe and reinstall Flash. Don't go to some video site and reinstall Flash, as these sites are sometimes hacked to direct users to malware sites.

Before wiping Firefox, you may want to go into Firefox under "Tools > Options > Security > Saved Passwords", display all your passwords, alt-PrintScreen them to MSPaint, IrfanView, etc and print them out. With 1200 pixels of height on my screen, it takes me 3 pages to print out all my passwords. Doing an export of "Bookmarks" is also recommended (unless there's 5-10 years of crap in there to get rid of, been there, done that)

Although I've never lost the ability to play video, Flash has gotten very laggy from time to time, and Firefox has gotten slow and tended to crash from time to time. I suspect the problem is the massive amount of Flash/Java/Silverlight/DivX/etc content out there, especially all the insidious advert content. Wiping everything and starting over restores a lot of speed, stability, and sanity.

  8. Raw chicken is one of the most absolutely disgusting things I've ever bitten into. It didn't stay in my mouth long enough to taste it, but it had an awful chewy slimy mouthfeel... 062802puke_prv.gif

Yeah, the instructions for those chicken tenders said "Not precooked: Do Not Microwave", but I eventually figured out the right combination of power and hold cycles to microwave them all the way through without turning them into shoe leather. smile.gif

  9. I hope we get an early thaw, too. We had a brief warm spell here for mid-February, but now we're getting snow again... banghead.gif

I'm going to attempt a short ride just to get some road time, though. There's actually more black ice now than during the worst of the winter, as the melt from the mid-February warm spell washed off all the salt, and now any water on the road freezes as soon as the shadows lengthen.

I've been riding a lot during the last 11 months to bring my weight and blood pressure down. I dropped 20-30 pounds and brought my blood pressure down from 155/110 to 120/75, but now the blood pressure is up again, so I just started on an ACE inhibitor. My doctor said my triglycerides and cholesterol were really good, and to keep doing whatever it is I've been doing, so I'm off to hit the road for an hour or so and keep the train rolling.

There's only an hour and a half of daylight left, so I don't have time to "ride my age" today. Maybe tomorrow if the snow misses us.

  10. I just re-read this thread and got a sense of deja vu...

time for me make like horse shit and hit the trail!

too nice of a day not go for a bike ride!  1022.gif

time to crank up some old RHCP and hit the woods................

I guess in my case I'd have to make like dog shit and hit the road (but hopefully not make like bird shit and hit a car... bolt.gif )

  11. Glad to hear you're back on the bike. If you're not in the southern hemisphere, hopefully the winter will hold off a bit so you can get some miles in.

bolt.gif at that vid you posted. I attacked some trails in my younger days, but never anything like that, and never any acrobatics on the rare occasions I was airborne. bolt.gif I was always happy just to stay in control and not eat too much dirt. smile.gif
