Another I seen THATS NOT MY FAVORITE but is still a dark weird film."COOK THE THIEF HIS WIFE AND HER LOVER" some scenes in this make you want to 062802puke_prv.gif AMERICAN BEAUTY, I had a 1970 Firebird loved that car!!!

John Goodman was in one about Babe Ruth called The Babe, I think. Also, Tommy Lee Jones played Ty Cobb in Cobb, I think. The Babe was mediocre, Cobb was pretty interesting. Ty Cobb was not a nice guy, that's for sure, and it was captured pretty well in the movie.

My personal favorite baseball movie is the Hank Greenberg Story. A must for any true baseball fan. It's got interview footage with old teammates like Charlie Gehringer and Hal Newhouser. Greenberg had to overcome adversity of his own, being Jewish in a largely anti-Semitic environment. One of the interesting stories has Jackie Robinson colliding on the basepaths with Greenberg, and a silence falling over the park. Greenberg helped him up and told him that he was going to do just fine, and that he had been there and knew. Anyway, go rent it.

Otherwise, I liked most of the movies mentioned in this thread, though it's been many years since I've seen a lot of them. I've heard that Tom Hanks' character in A League of Their Own is supposed to be based on Jimmie Foxx. I love that signature call by Uecker in Major League.. "Juuuuuuuuusssssstttt a bit outside!!" I loved Bull Durham. Pride of the Yankees was great. How could one not be a Lou Gehrig fan? Seeing the old time players in Field of Dreams was neat. If you build it, they will come.... Gotta see the Natural again. It's been too long. I heard that Bad News Bears is going to be remade, starring Billy Bob Thornton. Should be interesting.

Forgot about Tommy Lee Jones in Cobb add that to my list! The Hank Greenberg story is one I'm going have to rent, A rare hard to find movie i would like to locate is called"The Kid from Cleveland" it came out i believe in 1949 the year after the Indians won world series. Some of the Bowery Boys i think were in this, sappy gosh golly baseball flick of the time. smile.gif

I'd have to say Bull Durham is my fav baseball movie. The Natural and Eight Men Out are also personal favs...A guilty pleasure is Pride of the Yankees with Gary Cooper....though heavy on the tear-jerker side I immensely liked it for the subject; Lou Gehrig being one of those players from the past I'd wish to of seen play. I would also like to see a remake of this movie for today's audience. An underrated movie is Soul of the Game about the breaking of the colour line.

I love the Chinese groundskeepers in Major League...."They're still shitty.." laugh.gif Definitely a classic baseball comedy! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif (Could do without the sequels though)

  4. I apologize if this topic has already been discussed ! If not what's your'e favorite. I have several that i return to and still enjoy again and again. The ones on my list are . Bang the drum slowly (DeNiro) The Natural, Bingo Long Traveling All Stars (Pryor, James Earl Jones) The HBO film '"61" Great movie about Rodger Maris and the price he had to pay for beating Ruth's record. And a sentimental favorite of mine, Major League . Being a Tribe fan at the time this came out the Indians were still floundering in a decade of below 500 baseball this is all we had to cheer about,I'm serious! When me and my friends seen this at the theater every body had there Indians gear on and people would go crazy hi five and cheer like it was really happening. A sad and strange event. smile.gif

Highly enjoyable, Also i always thought "Jacobs Ladder" would be good set to a classical arrangement. Like others on the forum i would like to see the music of RUSH with full orchestration. smile.gif
