There Is A Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths

A couple of nights ago i had a dream that a command was given that every Rush song must be simplified. Song lenghts must be less than six minutes, and the song structures must be made simple and easy for everyone to understand. This command had arrived in the inbox of my work e-mail, and it was given by some major authority of the planet Earth. I was lucky to wake up.
Oh my Ged. That is an AWFUL dream. Aaaaaggghh. That would just be TORTURE.
Indeed. Reminds me of the story of 2112. Resistance urgently needed, otherwise there's no hope for us humans. :rush: :rush: :rush:
It DOES remind me of 2112. We must resist. Let's blast 2112 at whoever decided that simplification thing.

Red Lenses - A duff song on a pretty mediocre album.
Mediocre? Can't agree with you there. I didn't take the poll because I love GUP, it was one of the albums that hooked me. I came along late in their career so I didn't know as much about the older albums. I played GUP over and over and I don't think there is one song I don't like. As for Red Lenses, the line "The national midnight star, it's true!!' it cracks me up everytime. Putting the tabloids in their place :laughing guy:
I may be dense, but I don't get the National Midnight Star thing.
Some of the older heads may need to correct me, but I think there was a Rush fanzine in the early '80s called the National Midnight Star -- but the gag of using the title there is the similarity with tabloid names, like the Sun or the Star, with their blaring alarmist headlines. It's a knock on tabloid breathlessness and an inside joke, all rolled into one!
Still my least favorite song on one of my favorite albums.
I guess I am in trouble for picking Kid Gloves then...
Kid Gloves? You picked Kid Gloves? Come on!!

Okay, I did.
But that's not the point. Let's make sure it's permanently on the side of "Rush is the best band ever." Or at the very least, "Rush is good."

Well, back in the day, his critics did say that he sounded like a chipmunk on helium....
Wasn't it "somebody strangling a hamster"?

The way you get through a long road trip is a set of lengthy prog rock songs.
I did that!

All your friends know that when you ask "what kind of music is it," you're really asking "is it prog?"

You're impatiently waiting for something and start tapping your feet in 9/8 time.
oh my gosh that is hilarious

Would the person who voted for Afterimage please explain themself?

Don't get me wrong, I love Grace Under Pressure. All except for Red Lenses. Sure, it's kind of clever, but something about it just annoys me.

Plus with a username like t
All right, all right, I included Permanent Waves.
Aaaannd I voted for it.
It was a tough call, though.
Shouldn't you have voted for 2112 with a username like that!
When I made my TRF account I hadn't heard Permanent Waves.

You're trying to figure out if it's feasible to live till 2112.
I know some Rush fans who might actually live that long.

One hit and a Velvet Underground cover
A seven minute song is an epic now
Our lead singer left but the record's still good

I'm curious as to how an individual can 'drive to 1981' to quote Robert Fripp of King Crimson.
That's a lot of miles to put on a vehicle for sure.
Guess one would have to pick up a league of gentlemen and a few roches along the way......not to mention a fine session bassist/Stickist and a Bowie/Zappa tour alumni....
Fripp played for the Roches after 1981...although perhaps I don't understand the quote.

When I drink beer on a Saturday I get too 'close to the edge' and the next day I feel somewhat 'fragile'
When you correct zepphead saying that Fragile comes first

Okay, so this is like the "You know you're a Rush fan when" thread, but for prog bands other than Rush. This ought to be interesting. Here goes.
You know you're a prog fan when...
You dye your wolfhound purple
Your favorite colors are pink and crimson
You always put your drink way too "close to the edge" of the table

From "Chemistry":
"Two to one
Reflection on the water"
Okay, okay, this one might be a stretch, but think about it. 2 and 1 and reflections on water. Doesn't that sound like the 2112 album cover? And "2 1" reversed, that is, reflected, is "1 2."

I certainly doubt that it would be related for royalties on "Fly By Night" since I assume he helped write some of those songs, but you never know.
I'm not sure John helped write any songs on Fly By Night. If I have my facts right, he left the band right around the time the debut was released.

Fellow Rush fans,
Due to having been tricked by circumstances, I am sad to say that I will be leaving TRF for the time being. This has nothing to do with my love of Rush or the actions of anyone here. It is only because of one small fact about my real-world identity that I would rather not disclose online (and no, I am not secretly Ged or Lerxst). You might have noticed I only post late at night. There is a reason for that. All shall be explained upon my return. Please rest assured I am not in danger and I will return to TRF.
RUSH ON,
A.M., aka Flavia
