Well, by looking at the show pics, the guitars returned last night in San Diego, and they were used in El Paso during the previous show. I'm still curious where they were for Phoenix. Hmm...
-
I was really surprised that neither of Alex's models of Les Paul Axcess were used in Phoenix.
His main guitar for the show was the black prototype Axcess (which is totally awesome, and I hope Gibson will produce!).
The past couple of years, the black guitar, called "Big Al", had only been used on a couple of songs with dropped tuning.
For this show, he continued to use the regular sunburst Axcess for 2112; not the Lifeson model.
It really made me wonder what was up with the missing guitars, since they had been the primary ones for the last couple of years.

QUOTE (Jake2112 @ Jul 28 2010, 10:12 PM) QUOTE (ofsalesmen @ Jul 28 2010, 10:37 PM) Not to distract from the OP's post, but does anyone know anything about the Daphne Blue (or Ice Blue Metallic) Jazz Bass that Geddy warms up on as shown in the first scene of the Rush doc? I have a pretty good idea of his current gear but I had never seen that bass before. Just taking a guess, but probably a warmup bass like a lower end Fender or Squire just to get fingers moving. But I really don't know in this case
Do you think Geddy would actually warm up on a Squire??
-
I seriously doubt there will be any changes.
-
perhaps, "Return to Rio"
-
anymore thoughts on this??

I like it. It's not as full as the album version; there's a lot of layering on S&A.
It's my favorite guitar solo that Alex has done in a long time.

Does anyone know if Alex's black PRS (that he's had several years) is a 22 or 24 fret?

QUOTE (Rushchick10 @ Jul 8 2010, 06:31 PM) I remember reading somewhere that a couple of tours ago, the neck on his original Fender was broken or damaged beyond repair. The Fender Custom Shop replaced the neck. I believe there is a chance that this is a "new" bass. I read on RIAB last year that Geddy bought a '74 (or something) Jazz at a music store in Virginia.
The neck on the '72 was replaced before the Snakes and Arrows tour; reasoning- it was worn out. I seriously doubt it would be changed out again this soon.
Also, this current bass has a design on the pickguard. Based on his style, I doubt Geddy would add it to his '72; a bass he's had in the original style all these years.
I thought a lot about this when I saw the Albuquerque show, and I'd bet that this is a "new", old bass.

QUOTE (Ted Barchetta @ May 20 2010, 08:15 PM) I just curious after watching the Grace Under Pressure Tour DVD and seeing Alex's Black Strat with the Humbucker in the bridge position.
You might consider replacing the humbucker. I think Alex had a Bill Lawrence L-500.

I recently got to play on a Roland JC-120, and I now understand the hype. They really are awesome sounding, solid state amps.
I wish I knew which parts of songs Alex has used his on.

I read somewhere that the snare on Vital Signs was the first recording Neil used an electronic drum.
I can't remember where I read it, but it seemed like a reliable source.

Post a review when you get it.

QUOTE (spitball @ Mar 4 2009, 03:26 PM) OK, I also found the black ES-345 in this clip from the PeW warm-up tour...wish I had this show on DVD!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BsM6xAGXjQYou see it in the last seconds of a 9 minute video

I like my Marshall combo:

It's got mixed reviews for reliability. The cooling fan had a bad bearing when I bought it, and was replaced. Otherwise, it's worked fine.
The clean channel is really nice and full, and has a lot of low end. I also like the chorus and reverb. The overdrive is too muddy and not bright enough for my taste, so I use pedals.

QUOTE (Crockettsonny84 @ Jan 26 2009, 07:35 PM) Anyone see alex with his black ES345? I havent found any pictures yet, but I did see a video here: TrueFire TV
Awesome guitar. Thanks for sharing the vid.
The mention of a Strat- I never saw it. Anyone know to which one he was referring? Perhaps the white Sportscaster?

QUOTE (Crockettsonny84 @ Feb 4 2009, 07:41 PM) Any pictures of the Black on Maple strat from 79-80? I heard that this guitar after the final generation of modifications (wow, sounds sorta like lyrics maybe?) was put up at the Rock n Roll hall of fame... is this true? It was on display at the Hall of Fame when I visited in '03 or so. It was next to Geddy's black double-neck Ric.

QUOTE (_pete_ @ Nov 10 2008, 11:41 AM) What the heck does it say on the headstock?
....
It looks like the first four letters are...P O R K?That sounds correct. The guitar was on display at the RnR Hall of Fame in Cleveland when I visited in 2003. The description mentioned that it was heavily modified by Alex and named something weird. Something pertaining to pigs, is what my memory recalls.
It was placed next to Geddy's black double-neck Ric and the oil derrek from T4E tour(?).

QUOTE (Crockettsonny84 @ Jul 1 2008, 10:40 PM) for guitars I have an early 80s Les Paul Custom, a Howard Roberts Fusion 1980... How do you like the HRF? Where did you find it?

QUOTE (rushfanNlv @ Jul 14 2008, 10:56 AM) Also, replace those crappy pickups and electronics with real gibson stuff. These minor and semi inexpensive changes (about half of what the guitar cost) will make a world of difference.
From what I have read, you might replace the Epi pickups with these...

Bridge

These are the pickups that are on Alex's 355.

I'm still waiting on Fender to do an American version of it.
It's affordable because it's made in Japan.
