  5. Everyone was new at some point. We don't all know each other. We don't all like each other. We don't all dislike someone. Some of us have actually met. Some of us have been on TRF "talking" to each other for more than a decade so naturally there'd be a familiarity with certain members. You should post your opinion. To be truly part of a community (even an online one), we need to share ideas. Some might pounce on you, as you said. Others might praise you. But nothing will happen if nothing is shared. In regards to the "enormous sig files", as far as I know, you can still disable those. Trust you to be all sensible. But you're right. I joined back in the old days, ah the old days, 13.2kbs dial up internet, it took 6 months and a bus journey just to see a boob, but the inevitable blindness was delayed. That was a good thing. Sorry, I digressed there, yes, I was a very timid poster initially. Once you find your feet here, peeps will either engage with you or no-one will pay a blind bit of attention to you. Like Johnny, I've met a few TRFers. Good people all, bar that guy, it was a night I'd rather forget. Those clothes are STILL in the dry cleaners. *sucks thumb, rocking gently, foetal position, dark room*
  6. Pile on begins in 5....4.....3.......... And it was 1976, so there.
  7. Kanye uses the media, and the media uses him. Twas ever thus. An apt case in point, seeing as he's mentioned, Bowie did the same. Kanye would appear to be a gigantic pain in the hole, but, love the art not the artist. Stronger is one of the best singles I've heard in the past ten years. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is an astonishing album, excessive, kitchen sink production, on-point sampling & big tunes. An album that also encapsulates the consumer driven times we live in. "Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in." - Isaac Asimov
  8. Vinyl, boxsets and CDs. Books, esp WW2, Tudor, Irish history(War of Independence, Civil War and the Troubles in Northern Ireland). Whiskies.
  9. Not so much underrated but nearly forgotten. What a powerhouse they were.
  10. Tommy Live(Any version with Keith and John). The version on disc 2 of Live At Leeds Deluxe edition is off the charts. But, the Live at Hull University gig, THAT is just divine. Legend of A Mind from the Isle of Wight or Caught Live +5 is way better, when they wig out at the end...wowsa.
  11. Disco was great. Witty, erudite, loved his tunes. Cool guy.
  12. Absolute nailed-on magnificent Blues and Soul albums: Albert King - Blues At Sunrise Muddy Waters - Paris 1972 Muddy Waters - At Newport Muddy Waters - Antibes 74 BB King - Live In Cook County Jail BB King - Live At The Regal Lightnin' Hopkins - On Stage Son Seals - Live & Burning Sonny Boy Williamson & The Yardbirds Allmans Bros - At Fillmore East Fleetwood Mac - Live In Boston Ten Years After - Undead Ten Years After - Live At The Fillmore East The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield & Al Kooper The Butterfield Blues Band Live Paul Butterfield - Live In White Lake King Curtis - At Small's Paradise Solomon Burke - Soul Alive! James Brown - Live At The Apollo
  13. Emerson Lake & Palmer - Live at Mar y Sol 1972 This was disc 5 of the From The Beginning box, it also got its own release. They were at the peak of their considerable powers for this. Stunning.
  14. WORD. Miles Davis Quintet - Four And More/My Funny Valentine (two GREAT albums that belong together!), Bootleg Series Vol. 1 (Europe 67) Bill Evans Trio - Waltz for Debby/Sunday at the Village Vanguard - they are meant to be a pair, as they are part of the same set of concerts. Weather Report - 8:30 John Coltrane - Afro Blue Impressions Charles Mingus - Town Hall Concert Bill Withers - Live at Carnegie Hall Earth, Wind & Fire - Gratitude I have never heard that Miles set. 1967 was a very interesting transitional time, and a largely unheralded year for Miles, which that set helps to remedy. I need to get that. Mingus' Town Hall Concert is outta sight! I'll pull that one out sometime later this week. I had forgotten that Waltz For Debby was a live recording. (And I just listened to it a couple of months ago!). The "Bootleg" series for Miles are really wonderful thus far. I've not heard all of them yet, but Vol 1 (Europe 1967) and the complete Fillmore 1970 are KILLER. Highly recommended :) Gosh yes. What a feast for the ears they ALL are. Actually, live jazz albums...that's where it's at. A few of my favourites, should anyone care: Art Blakey: A Night At Birdland Vol 1 and 2 Art Blakey - Au Club St Germain Art Blakey - Au Theatre Champs Elysses Ella Fitzgerald - At The Opera House Errol Garner - Concert By The Sea Cannonball Adderley - At The Lighthouse The Buddy Rich Big Band - Mercy Mercy Mercy Miles Davis - Miles In Berlin Miles Davis - Cookin' At The Plugged Nickel Oscar Peterson - The Trio Live From Chicago Ahmad Jamal Trio - Live At The Pershing Lounge vol 1 and 2 Dizzy Gillespie - Dizzy On The French Riviera Nina Simone - At The Village Gate You did me in with the very first one you listed there. How could I have forgotten A Night at Birdland?? (I am even a drummer, myself!). Art was something, wasn't he? What a leader, drummer and man he was.

  16. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but I've gotten back into the habit of doing this again. Almost every day I go through the anniversaries and look at anyone who's been here seven or more years, and if they have zero posts and haven't logged in since around when they joined, they get deleted. We had over 13,000 members, and now we're down to 12.800. I know I don't want to go below 10,000, so at some point I will quit doing this. .You got the power, maybe delete some regulars, for shits and giggles. Hatchetaxe&saw Me? A regular? Sir, I'm flattered. Well, you DO use FiberCil. WAYHEY! Take a bow. Mr. Hankey Machine. I know! Let ME swing the axe. I reckon I'd have the place whittled down to about 7. Careful with that axe, Eugene. Just make sure Melodic777 is one of the 7. Duh. Surely he's been AXEd already. He was ORSM. Madder than a confusion of weasels in a bag of sherbet.
