  1. Wow thanks for the great replies. It is amazing how enthusiastic Rush fans are (myself included now). 1. Don't give me that "It's a Canadian thing" for the quacking, I want to know! How do you know I'm not Canadian? :-) 4. Yes, I meant Jerry Stiller. Oops. How many videos has he been in now? 7. (new question) Has Rush ever done Roll the Bones and rapped the rap part live? or always a recording? 8. (new question) I'm a little confused about how the 3 guys make all the music while on stage. I thought I had heard that they play or trigger everything, but is that true or do they get help from offstage guys?
  2. Hi all. Mid 30's Rush fan who just learned about Rush a few years ago. Since then I've had the fun experience of being able to go back and see and hear a lot of Rush and it's all new to me! Went to Clockwork tour and couldn't get tickets for this tour in my price range. I'm soooo annoyed at myself for not listening to a friend in middle school in the mid-90's who told me I should listen to Rush. I just wasn't ready for the "heavy" sound yet. I really think Rush is a great band - they seem like a "musician's band" if that makes any sense. One thing I've noticed, and maybe it's just wishful thinking, is that when I go to another band's concert, when people clap along or whatever, they seem to always get "off the beat" but during Rush's the fans clapping are always on rhythm. I have a bunch of questions I've gathered throughout the years so if it's ok I'll use this thread. Maybe someone else will learn something they've wondered but since I'm new, I'm not afraid to ask the "stupid" questions: 1. Why has Geddy been making the "quacking" symbol with his hands instead of clapping hands during the Spirit of Radio? 2. In the current tour, the final video appear to be outtakes of other tour videos, is that correct? is it from really old tour videos too? How long have they been doing the tour videos? 3. In the late 90's did it really seem like Rush was going to be done forever due to Peart's family deaths? 4. Does Ben Stiller have any connection with Rush other than just being a fan? 5. Back in the 70s, 80s or 90s were Rush songs ever heavily played on the radio? I only really hear Tom Sawyer now, and to me there are so many other songs that are better than Tom Sawyer. Do Rush fans in general consider Tom Sawyer to be a great piece or just the most popular? It's a good song but I've heard it so many times I'm not a huge fan now. 6. Why do some, (maybe a lot?) of Rush fans not like the 80s period of synth stuff? Because it's not as "heavy"? or just because it uses synth which is not a guitar or percussion? I actually really like Power Windows etc. and I think it's cool, since I'm just a "new fan" that I can listen to whatever type of Rush music I'm interested in at a given time. I know I have more but that's a start. Thanks for any input!
