Available Light is one of the best lyrical/vocal songs in Rush's catalog.

Pride and Joy - Stevie Ray Vaughn

I started by listening to the song that Geddy plays bass on: Territory. My favorite one of theirs. However, I enjoy a lot of their other material, although its vastly different than Rush and even classic rock. I think it would be considered indie rock. They are one of my favorite modern bands.

A Donner Phaser.
A pretty cheap pedal but it gets the job done for me.
-
I can hear Alex using phaser/flanger in a lot of songs, especially early on, but with my phaser pedal I can't seem to find the right rate to match Alex's sound. Does anyone know how fast it is? Or does my question even make sense? I am just starting to get into the technical aspects of guitars/amps/pedals as I've been a casual player for years.

Would it too many on one album to add me as an ambassador to CA? Unfortunately it was the only album released when I was a fan, but I was still too young to understand what a new release meant. Still, it's the one perhaps most personal to me.

Absolutely love this song, musically and lyrics. And it's a rare occasion we see Alex using a Telecaster.- 1

Rush's Roots
in Rush
I always hear how Rush developed parts of their sound from Led Zeppelin, but I never understood it until I took a deeper listen to "Ramble On" and hear how the bass work resembled that of Geddy's early baselines. What are some other examples? Just curious as relatively new Rush fan... -
1. Hemispheres
2. Subdivisions
3. The Garden
4. Between The Wheels
5. By-Tor And The Snowdog
6. Bravado
7. Dreamline
8. Far Cry
9. Headlong Flight
10. Stick It Out
I can consider agreeing with 6-10, but not 1-5

These are four of my favorite songs from those two albums, making it a very tough choice.
-
S&A: Circumstances, Digital Man, Between the Wheels, Natural Science
TM: La Villa and Working Man
CA: Grand Designs and The Garden
R40: Where do I even begin? How It Is, Losing It w/ Jonathan Dinklage, Red Barchetta, Jacob's Ladder, Hemispheres, Cygnus X-1 w/drum solo, Xanadu, the entire encore
-
Granted I'm no expert on the subject since I've only been to three tours, the R40 drum sets were my favorite sounding drums. I liked how thunderous they were, especially in Jacob's Ladder and Hemispheres.

Eric Clapton

Wonderful Tonight
Tears in Heaven
Don't even need two more

I'm looking for a singer for Rivendell
Also, a drummer, bassist, and singer for The Pass.
More songs to come soon.
We could record the songs, and send them to each other to be merged into one video. Something similar to the style of YYNOT.

The R40 drum kit was dull sounding but the original Chromey sounded awesome. Much better than any kit that he after that with the exception of the red Tama's.
what she said.
Mick
I personally liked the sound of the R40 drums more than either CA Tour or TM Tour, since those are the only concerts I've been to.

QUOTE (spock @ Jul 10 2012, 05:01 PM) The first Rush song I learned was "In the Mood" - I still like playing that tune. Maybe that's 'cause it was also the first solo I could figure out! A lot of the songs from the first album are simple but really RAWK to play on guitar (IMHO). I really learned a lot about Alex's playing from that album - some of the unusual scales and notes he chose that you can still hear in later songs.
I remember the first time I played La Villa all the way through - what a trip from to Strangiatto!
There's no better way to learn yer way around the guitar than learning the Lerxst.
You know, I haven't really tried any from the first album. I should, huh?
I can play about 75% of La Villa. Lemme tell you, the first time I played the LVS theme, I couldn't stop grinning for hours!
I can play just about all of it as well, but man that solo is tough.

I was hoping they would've have pulled out "A Farewell to Kings".
So close! From 2009...
"We tried to rehearse A Farewell To Kings on the last tour and I couldn't successfully sing that without hurting myself, so we gave up."
You know, I can't imagine that "Anthem" or "Lakeside Park" are any easier to sing. But I'm not Geddy Lee...
I always thought Geddy actually sounded decent on those during R40, which seemed to be a miracle.
Permanently changing
