  1. funnily enough, was sitting here with a JB when I ran across this thread. Stopped drinking scotch in favour of bourbon a good few years ago & it now tastes a bit like antiseptic to me, (although have enjoyed the odd dram or two recently).

Jim Bean for everyday drinking and Bulleit as a treat ( quite pricey here in the UK). I also like Knob Creek and 'Trace. Maker's Mark leaves me a bit unimpressed, I always feel it's a victim of its own success. Also tried Four Roses on the advice of a wine merchant but was massively disappointed.

I guess it's a personal taste thing - I much prefer JB over JD but that's just me - so looking forward to people's likes/dislikes & maybe a few buying ideas

  2. Yep - love it. One of the most heartfelt songs I've ever heard (not just from Rush) & always holds an additional poignancy because of a friend who took their own life. My favourite track off VT is still Secret Touch though - just can't get enough of the musical bridge with Alex sawing on guitar & Geddy kicking in with the bass then the vocal overlay. The remix ruined that part by bringing in the vocals too early ( IMHO :) ) - & another reason I'm gutted that they didn't bring R40 to Europe
  3. Wot, no Tanks ?!?

Great thread ORF, Nerds of the model world unite !

made endless kits when I was younger - Airfix 'planes ( still remember the incredible 1:24 Stuka), Warships, but most of all WWII German armour. Had an itch I couldn't scratch a couple of years ago and bought Tamiya's awesome 1:25 Tiger I

Spent a good few happy hours building it, much to complete bewilderment of Mrs M

Never got round to finishing the paint properly so will wait for the next itch & buy an airbrush :D

That's a fantastic vid, only had time to listen to a few minutes of it but the sound is great, even on my crappy laptop. Looking forward to watching the whole thing.

You just can't beat the energy coming off the band - awesome, cheers

  4. I wouldn't worry too much about wearing out. I've listened to all my orginal discs again as the new LPs have arrived - they pop & crackle a bit on the quiet parts but the sound is still

great. I'm not saying vinyl is the B All & end all - I listen to digital as much if not more - but if you want to get a turntable it's well worth the effort. There's nothing like the feeling of slipping 2112 out of its sleeve, dropping the needle, laying back & reading the gatefold cover to cover as the music washes over you ....... mmmmmmmmmm

Price wise I have no Idea what you'd pay where you are ( thinking N.America ? ) but you should get a half decent turntable for max UK£200 - say $300 maybe less. Most new'ish decks will pair up to an Amp with the right cable.

  5. Vinyl just sounds "warmer" & more rounded, something to do with analogue I guess. it's the best way to listen to music IMHO - but not the easiest; you have to keep getting up to flip the record !! It also makes you to listen to a whole side ( which can be good and bad) 'cos you can't just skip a track. You can easily play an iPod though the amp to give the best of all possible worlds but for the full Rush experience it's got to be vinyl all the way
  6. Mmm, I'm confused as well - ( live in UK by the way) ...have got Signals & ESL from Amazon but the rest of the Mercurys have now dropped back in the year & the release order has gone haywire with PW & HYF jumping the queue over P/G which has dropped back to December !!??. Backstage club & Amz are equally out of sync. Pressing issues maybe ?

The Atlantic releases seem to be equally random & no sign of them on Amz UK yet but luckily I have a mate in the US who can take delivery & forward on .

Already salivating over a vinyl copy of T4E
