  1. R30 was definitey better. Despite the cover songs, overall I preferred the setlist. I thought R30 was a much more lively upbeat selection of songs.

But, the Rush In Rio setlist was way better than both R30 and R40

  2. I enjoyed the show, but for me I would rank it behind several tours. (Vapor Trails, R30, Time Machine in particular)

Thinking more about it, I would rank R40 ahead of Snakes N Arrows. I had a conflict so I was not able to see CA. I remember loving the Roll the Bones tour. Prior to that, it is too far back and several shows kind of blend together in my memory.

  3. So I'm going to the Boston show with a couple of "casual" fans. They will be psyched for the second set but won't know much of the first… so I'm making a playlist with the songs in the concert so far. Concerts are always better when you know the music! They plan to buy them on iTunes so they are familiar with the new stuff.
  4. This is hard to say... I guess I could list a handful of bands that are my favorites... Rush is one of them for sure. It would be had to pick a single favorite band or rank one ahead of the next.

    Among my favorites though are:

    Rush

    Tool

    Counting Crows

    Toad the Wet Sorocket

    Pink Floyd

    Pearl Jam

  5. To add a twist for this, I'm going to add the requirement that there be at least one song from each of their studio albums. It looks like they are playing 24 songs on this tour, so that is 20 songs (one from each studio album), plus 4 wildcards.

    1. The Wreckers (Clockwork Angels)

    2. Far Cry (Snakes and Arrows)

    3. The Seeker (Feedback)

    4. Earthshine (Vapor Trails)

    5. Half The World (Test for Echo)

    6. Animate (Counterparts)

    7. Dreamline (Roll the Bones)

    8. Roll The Bones (Wildcard 1)

    9. The Pass (Presto)

    10. Mission (Hold Your Fire)

    Intermission

    11. Manhattan Project (Power Windows)

    12. Red Sector A (Grace Under Pressure)

    13. Subdivisions (Signals)

    14. Tom Sawyer (Moving Pictures)

    15. YYZ (Wildcard 2)

    16. Limelight (Wildcard 3)

    17. The Spirit of Radio (Permanent Waves)

    18. Freewill (Wildcard 4)

    19. The Trees (Hemispheres)

    20. Closer To The Heart (Farewell to Kings)

    21. 2112 (2112)

    Encore

    22. Lakeside Park (Caress Of Steel)

    23. Anthem (Fly By Night)

    24. Working Man (Rush)

The hardest thing for me to eliminate here was Cyngus X1. Other notables that were tough for me to cut out was The Camera Eye, Bravado, Ghost of A Chance, Chain Lightening.

This is a hard list to make… you can imagine what the band goes through!

  6. So I've been starting to get psyched for the Boston show, pulling out Rush In Rio and R30 DVD's and other stuff out of the vault.

I think my single biggest complaint about the setlist is leaving out Limelight. Without having done any research, I would think that has to be one of their top 3 or 4 songs of all time… how do you leave that out of your final tour?

  7. They didn't do The Weapon yet? That will be the next concert. I'm just positive.

As awesome as that would be, I don't see Subdivisions moving for it. Sorry, Lorraine. :(

Why not? They could alternate the two. Subdivisions has been played in many tours. The last time they did The Weapon was in the mid-eighties.

I'll keep my fingers crossed just the same. :)

It's one of the 5 songs a casual fan may actually know. Subdivisions is a lock to stay.

But casual fans don't attend the concerts.

They do! In fact, many do.

I find that surprising but I will take your word for it. Personally, I wouldn't spend money to go see a band I could take or leave, and I certainly wouldn't spend money to see a band that I only knew their more popular songs and were completely ignorant of the rest.

I bet that about half the crowd at any given arena concert is what you are describing. For Rush and other bands as well.
