  1. I said this once before and got my head handed to me, but I think it's very selfish of fans to want them to go on at this point. They do have personal lives to live, and there are more important things to them than standing on stage playing music.

I'm not advocating them going on for us or anybody but themselves. I just always have to chuckle a bit when I hear how grueling their work load is.

You can chuckle all you want. Are you over sixty? If so, maybe you can go with them on this tour and see how long it takes before you get worn out.

I know 60 year old coal miners and construction workers that work 80 hours a week. I know 75 year old doctors that work 80 hours a week, up all night and then all day. None of them take a year off after a grueling 3 day work week for 3 months. Rush has built a great thing for themselves and can afford to work the way they choose. Great on them. I'm not criticizing that. Just a little perspective about the terrible work load they are under.

I tend to agree with you.

  2. Justin Hayward still sings well, but he can't hold the notes the way he used to and his voice breaks every now and then.

Just saw the Moody Blues in Portland Oregon last week, my first time seeing them, I'm 27 years old. I'll just say I may have been the youngest person there. God but they put on a great performance. Every song was fantastic, a band with guys in there 70's and they're still able to reproduce their music live. Justin was killing the guitar solo parts too, unbelievably awesome. Nights in white satin sounded exactly like the album version, he hit every lyrical note perfectly. I honestly didn't think they would be this good, they totally exceeded my expectations. If they happen to come back, I will definitely see them again.

I will mention that the audience was a bit stale, I guess considering the average age was probably around 60-65 its not too surprising.

I mean I was getting into it, but after each song only the first 12 rows were standing up and applauding (everyone was applauding and cheering but most were just sitting), I was in about 20th row and was standing after each song giving a raucous applause and I was one of the only ones doing this this far back throughout the entire show. I would have liked to have stood the whole show but didn't want to piss the people off behind me. Luckily the audience got more lively, finally, for the last 5 or 6 songs. They played for a total of 2 hours, I'll reiterate, awesome show!!!

  3. They should just focus on recording like 6 or 7 more albums, so when they die they can just keep putting music out, like 2Pac. That would be epic. Especially considering I'm young and need more Rush for awhile.

I do wish they would placate (most) our desires and go back to the old sound though, maybe produce a couple more 20 minute epics. A few more Necromancer's, and Cygnus'.

    Hey I can dream, can't I? : )

  4. Had mine made at Billet Frames. I even sent them the Hemispheres font for them to use.

    Awesome

  5. Awesome.

Funny that you post this. I had a dream the other night I was getting a bass lesson from Geddy. I woke up feeling really refreshed. That's all I remember though, my dreams aren't near as vivid as yours. Lol

  6. In 2012 I walked around to the back of the arena (San Jose) in the mid afternoon out of sheer boredom. My hotel was nearby and I had nothing to do while waiting for showtime. I was talking with some of the road crew and Neil pulled up on his red motorcycle along with his riding companion. I didn't even bother attempting to acknowledge him because I know he hates that whole thing. So, I was surprised when he nodded his head at me with a friendly gesture of hello. He seems happy when he's on his bike or hiking. He was much taller than I ever realized. I would love to meet Ged and Al. Would love to ask each of them what their favorite Rush song is.

    That's interesting.

How tall would you presume he is?

    Neil is 6'4" (1.93 m)

    Alex is 6'0" (1.83 m)

and Geddy is the "short" one at 5'10" (1.78 m)

according to a Google search for their heights.

You can judge for yourself. I'm 1.74 m.

Whether Its fake or not, at least Alex flashes the big smiles. Geddy has that "I hope the Jays win tonight " look.

I really wish I knew how to convert metric to normal.

    About 5 ft 9 inches

  8. I still think a first half of By-Tor/second half of The Necromancer type of medley would be an amazing way to get something off of both those albums, but I'm realistic. It won't happen.

This would be the best (and most likely) scenario for them playing a song off CoS. By-Tor is a huge fan favorite and it could segue into the final part of The Necromancer quite easily. Two albums in one song, and finally satisfies everyone who's wanted something from CoS since 1981 besides the brief Bastille Day section from 2004.

I think your idea would be amazing.

I personally love the Necromancer, the middle portion kicks some serious ass, and the end portion wraps the song up nicely, I've always thought of it as kind of soothing, especially after the hardcore frenetic middle.

They'd have to turn up the volume if they played the middle, for sure. Alexs' guitar sounds like a beast.

  9.

Something for Nothing. Pretty self explanatory. Would love to see it played in full, but the vocals on the last half of the song are ridiculous.

: ) They sure are. : ) God I love that song. Frigging guy could really belt it out.

    I endorse your overture.

  10. Meh, ever since the time in the early 80s when Neil kind of blew me off when I met him behind Maple Leaf Gardens I've kind of just ignored him. He's a private guy and I get that. I tried to read a few of his blogs and found them long winded and boring, which is no surprise because I really haven't been blown away by his lyrics for about the last 20 years either. I was really drawn to his early sci-fi lyrics but since then he really isn't anything special. Is he a genius? maybe in his own mind.

Yep Andrew I get it to man. "Meh" says it all. I mean I was still excited to actually meet him with eye contact but then when I decided to walk up to him he slithered back onto his tour bus and shut the door. I just wanted to tell him that I had been playing the drums for about 25 years thanks to his influence.

    I know's it's a cliche but that's all I wanted to say.

    FAIL

Damn. I feel bad for you guys. Reading these stories, I'd just keep walking if I saw him now I guess.

I guess that's why they say don't meet your hero's.

  11. To answer the original question, No.

Especially after my true discovery of Rush. I always knew about them and listened to their mainstream hits. But 3 years ago I purchased a couple of albums and couldn't believe how much I thoroughly enjoyed every single song. Which led to buying all of their albums. I have been shuffling through them now for 3 years (almost exclusively) and I'm no where near tired of any of them yet.

I consider myself lucky to be able to see them at all even if it is on the tail end of their career's.

With regards to ticket prices, my first concert in 2012 I spent $180 a ticket and was about 100 yards away. This time I spent $140 a ticket and am in Row 7.

Congrats on the great score CJW. I thought I had a good deal, $300 for 11th row center. Resale prices for that start at triple right now.

If they decide to tour again, as long as I am healthy and have the $, I will go. If prices are like they are now, I will gripe. Gripe and go!

Interesting story on how you became a fan - How long did you know about Rush before buying those first albums? How long were you a rock fan before hearing those first Rush songs on the radio? Only two questions allowed.

Yeah, I thought I was pretty lucky, I got the tickets about 15 minutes into the presale.

I loved being with my dad when I was younger, that meant listening to the music he liked. Most of the time it was just radio and I would always ask him who was playing. To be honest with you when Rush would come on I thought it was a woman singing. : ) But I've always enjoyed Geddy's voice.

That would mean I had known about Rush for probably close to 20 years before buying true albums. Turning 28 this year.

Glad I found them before it was too late.

And to your second question-60's, 70's, and 80's classic Rock has always been my main genre since I could remember.
