Hearing the Grand finale of 2112 for the first time. Is was 1980, i was 11. I had it cranked up on headphones. When the last few moments of the song finished and neil was going nuts and and alex's guitar was feeding back i felt chills and tears were streaming down my face

  1. Thanks for the input e'rybody. Rush is more collaborative in their writing process than the other bands i was referring to, so I can see that there would not be a "battle of the songs" competition to determine what went on the album. I guess, i should be happy the're still putting out decent stuff even today. I just always expected to see tons of that stuff surface once we entered the digital age.
  2. Excuse me if this info is easy to obtain, but im more than a casual fan, and still cant find out why its impossible to find any extra studio outtakes from this band. Every other band I like has between 2 and 10 studio tracks that didnt make albums throughout their career, but has resurfaced later. Ive googled it, and have listened to all podcasts w/ rush content. Ive heard many acknowledge it, but no reason why. Are these extra songs locked up never to be leaked for mainstream consumption or do they really not exist. I find it hard to believe that every demo or song idea they were working on made it on to an album, and those ideas/songs were just enough to fill an album. Im dying for some insight on this. I would love to hear what everybody thinks or would appreciate a link to any discussions the group know about. thanks for helping a brother out
  3. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Ill start with Counterparts, HYF and Power windows. Ill get to the rest eventually. I already have Snakes and Clockwork, love them both. No worries 'bout the grump. I am battle-hardened from years of being on audiophile and sports forums. From what Ive read so far the douche quotient on this board, as with rush fans in general, is many orders of magnitude under the societal average.
  4. I consider myself as big a Rush fan as any but I have a 23 year gap between buying Grace under pressure the week it came out in 84 and picking up S and A in 2007. Thats 7 studio albums that I'm only tangentially familiar with. Ive only heard the songs of those albums from the 3 concerts i attended after 1984 (HYF, S and A and Time machine tours) I know many will question my fandom for bowing out of the newer stuff for that long, but i never stopped bing a rush fan. Still pulling out the old vinyl at least once a week. Pretty much wore out multiple copies of the first 11 albums. Grace under pressure really broke my heart and I just couldn't deal with the fact that Rush's new music was so much less interesting that what other bands were putting out during the time. The band had changed, I had changed. That being said Im older and wiser now and Im ready to jump in with both feet. I want to start out with three this weekend to get acquainted with. I prefer vinyl, but I hear some during that era are tough to find so I'll settle for MP3's. Which three should i start with? Are there there any that are universally considered to be stinkers amongst most rush fans?
  5. They all have a sense of humour and dont take themselves too seriously. They could be 3 bono's very easily considering the level of success and adoration they've had.
  6. I've enjoyed listening to music related podcasts overt the years, but have been disappointed at the lack of Rush related podcasts. There are many devoted to lesser bands with less fanatic followers, but the only Rush related one i found is one episode of "audiojunkies" Ive googled and searched the forums but have come up empty. Does anyone know where i can find podcasts with Rush related content? Thanks in advance
