Thanks for the suggestions!

Does anyone know what sales have been like for the ones that have been released?
Some of them are pretty expensive, at least here in Canada.

I’m having a quilt made out of my Rush shirts.
Will you post a picture when it is finished? Assuming you're serious?

I've been known to be casually dismissive of a pop song by referring to it as "one of those verse verse chorus verse chorus bridge chorus chorus things."

I thought TAAB2 was pretty horrendous.
It would be great to get that lineup of Barre, Evan, Hammond, Anderson and Barlow back together. And Palmer.

I know nothing about Muse. What is the best introduction album? It's not all gloomy alt rock junk, is it? It's not like Justin Bieber meets hard rock, is it?
It's a wide variety of heavy prog stuff, alt rock bangers, creepy romantic balladry, pop power, Spanish accents, spacey electronics, and lots of doomsday theories. The best album to start with probably depends on what interests you the most out of that, though their 4th album Black Holes & Revelations does a pretty good job of covering all those bases.
Which one sounds most like, say, Deadwing or one of the more recent Mastodon albums?
Wikipedia states that the singer does melismatic singing. I really hate that stuff - is there a lot of it? I was thinking of listening to some things on YouTube. I'll check out the Black Holes one if you think that's a good starting point.
Update: not warming up to it so far. Does it take a few tries?

April Wine would be a contender if they hadn't written so many wretched soft rock songs. Their rockier tunes are great, though.

This thread has got me thinking of doing up a mix. I think the only way I'd probably go back to listening to Triumph (apart from most of Allied Forces) is to do up a couple of mixed CDs. It would definitely have of Emmett's instrumental things along with the rock tunes I think are pretty good. Then I could leave off turkeys like Magic Power, Spellbound, Follow Your Heart and Hold On.

I did splice Cygnus X-1 part 1 into the middle of Hemispheres where it belongs. 28 minute masterpiece!

To those who don't like the sound of the compressed drums.
The Rolling Stone article does state that the duo worked with Nick Raskulinecz.
I'm aware that a lot of RUSH fans don't like Raskulinecz's production work on Snakes & Arrows and Clockwork Angels.
In the bigger picture, the loudness war scenario and the sound of MP3 files have altered people's listening habits.
I've said this before, wouldn't it be great if every record of every genre had Steely Dan listening quality to it? There would be no complaints.
We all want analog sound but like the benefits of living in a digital world where things are more convenient and faster.
Sometimes I think the human race needs new ears, just sayin'.
A rock tom-tom should should sound like "doooomm"; these ones just go "boop."

Just listened to both those videos. Quite good, limited by being a duo?
Yeah - what's their deal live? I'm a bit confused by one "live" video I've seen which only shows the two of them, but plays in slow motion with no sound...?

Yeah, lots of easter eggs there, along with the suspended chords or whatever they're called. I don't care for the sound of those toms, though.
The oversized 80s Geddy Lee glasses are amusing

I'm not sure if the potential excitement of hanging out with one of my guitar heroes could overcome my hatred of golf.

This guy needs to be strung up, drawn, and quartered.I'd like that a lot more if the three musicians actually looked like the guys from Rush rather than just guys with similar hairstyles and clothing.
You mean the artist?

I was doing really well . . . haven't bought anything for a while. But now there's a 1960s Kay "Speed Demon" bass for sale in my area. I love Kay guitars . . .
But it's a bit pricey . . . and I told myself I was done.

REO. A great AOR album which stands the test of time. Just chock full of great tunes.
Plus they are the band I have seen live the most.
Does ANY singer use more reverb than this guy, though?

Has anyone watched Castle Rock? There's a scene at the start of season 2 that made me gag.

Hope it was a good one!

I don't know about who is more metal, but what is beyond doubt is that both Poison and Warrant are both utter shite....
Shite metal.

I like Hold Your Fire (or at least a handful of tracks from it), but not because it's "metal". Rush stopping having anything in common with metal sometime around Permanent Waves.
Signals, Power Windows, Presto, Roll the Bones, and most of Counterparts also trended fairly far from 'metal' or 'heavy', a select few tracks over those many albums being the exceptions.
Did I miss the point of the thread?
The bass playing on HYF is probably the best of Geddy's career.
Hemispheres blows it sky high

essential albums to own on vinyl
in Music Of The Spheres
Posted
I'm going vinyl hunting at this huge antiques warehouse this weekend, and I have a few things I want to look for. I collected records when I was a kid but gave a bunch away, stupidly, when CDs were the rage. I kept all the ones that were really important to me at the time.
I've seen a few lists online - 50 albums you must own on vinyl, etc. - but I wouldn't mind knowing what my TRF friends consider to be essential records to have on vinyl.
I'm thinking of things that you sit on the couch and listen to, holding the album sleeve on your lap.
