  1. If you are thinking in terms of for hosting others and being able to make a drink for them, I'd have

    1. Martini - Classic drink that has a million varieties on a very basic recipe of vodka and vermouth. Only downside is everyone has a different idea of what the perfect martini is.

    2. Gin and Tonic - Stick with top shelf gin, Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire are personal favorites. Beefeater and Seagrams are good for a half gallon purchase

    3. Rum and coke - again simple but with a million variations. My ex brother in law got me drinking Bacardi O (orange flavored rum) and Diet Pepsi with Lime. Nice low cal libation with some kick

    4. Margarita - Nothings better (IMHO) than a Cuervo Gold margarita on the rocks with a nicely salted rim. Not a big fan of frozen margaritas or strawberry margaritas.

    5. Scotch - Neat is easy. On the rocks not so much...how much ice? always cubed, never crushed or shaved. Then there is which scotch...Bias here is toward The Macallan and not without cause. It is emminitely drinkable and flavorful. My usual drink is an 18yo Glennfiddich neat. Johnnie Walker Red is acceptable and I have a 200ml of JW Blue (retails for $150 a fifth) stashed for a special occasion.

    Hope that helps!!!

I'm working part-time at Borders right now, and somebody bought "Roadshow" today.

"Good choice," I told her. "Is it a gift for somebody?"
    "Yeah, it's a gift."
"So you're not the Rush fan?"
"Well, I like Rush," she said. Then I told her that the book was on my Christmas list this year, too. I'll probably get it.

My favorite was "Traveling Music." I think the books are getting better, with more Rush and music talk, and less of the boring travelogue stuff: rock formations, trees, plants, bird watching, the history of small towns passed through, etc. Yawners!

I guess I have a bit of the travel bug myself. If time and money were no object, I'd love to recreate (most) of the GR trail. The variety of places and landscapes and cultures within our own borders and continent is so diverse and unexplored.

While I dont always agree with some of Neil's observations on the people (taken with a grain of salt from the tragic POV they were made under) his vivid descriptions of the scenery is almost as good as being there. I enjoy the histiorical parts of TM as a Rush fan but I want more of the travelouge stuff. I thought Roadshow was a nice balance b/w the two. Definitely didnt last long enough. Blasted through it in about 3 days.

    More Neil MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got my book yesterday, just started reading it today. I am on chapter 2.. and I looove it so far!!!!!  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  wub.gif

You will love every part of it! Be prepared for lots of Neil's emotions to come out; that's actually what I loved so much about it...is the fact that it was so personal.

Glad you are enjoying it. As much as I love Rush it took me a couple of tries to really get hooked on it. It was just so raw and open and I kept flashing back to havng seen the T4E tour and what joy the band brought to all the fans there. Then this happens to Neil... sad.gif

Its a real tribute to Neil personally and the human race in general what we can endure and come out the other side

  4. Hehehehheeee...little did I know...

i had plans sunday to ride down to Danbury CT Sunday morning, 2&1/2 miserable hours on the interstate on a motorcycle but needed to get there early (9am) and didnt and couldnt get up at 3am to leave at 4am to take the sceneic route I prefer. So of course I got the game ready to go on Tivo. Thought about it and added like an hour and a half to the end of the game to account for an 11 or 12 inning game just in case.

Had a great time working on the bikes and bopping around some new roads so didnt leave till like 4pm but I had kind figured on that. And it did take that 5+ hours to get home. I was studiously avoiding any kinda news/sports web sites since I wouldnt be able to watch the game till Monday any way which worked well with All Star break, lessening the baseball withdrawal.

So.... I had no clue about this game and when I ran out of "tape" the CWS had just tied it up again...ARGGHHHH comp26.gif comp26.gif

I go to the Red Sox site expecting to see thatCWS had won it later that inning or better Boston pulls it out next inning...then I'm reading the account of a 19 inning back and forther....Aint there someway digital way to know when a particular broadcast has ended, the credits, beginning of the next show, dont they have different signals or waves or doodads???? Technology..cant live with it cant shoot it!!!

The words Tavarez and "four innings" just made me cringe but apparently he held things together. Maybe better off not having had to see that pitch by pitch.. unsure.gif

  5. Yeah this has been a sad and pathetic display in Tampa. Game 1 vs Kazmir was not unexpected, he just flat out outpitched us even against Beckett. TB's line up aint the lineup of the first couple of series.

What is going on?? Let down from the great interleague play?? The worst of the AL east better than the best of the NL east?? All Star fatigue setting in?? Overconfidence because of TB's record?? Maybe a little of each.

Yeah, I'm done with Johnson. Take him, Tavarez, and Seanez, swap em for a beer and a couple of hot dogs, bring back Pauley and give these young guys a chance to succeed like Pap. I think we saw Pap's influence on Hansen last night.

What do you all think of this??

    Starter through 5 (or more..)

    Hansen 6&7

    Timlin 8

    Paplebon 9

Obviously not an everyday situation but as a basic formula to start from. Cripe get Cora some mound time. he cant suck much worse than Tavarez!!! Everyone always talking about his potential as an everyday player....

    pokey.gif

yeah suckered in again...thought that pic looked familiar. Course I'm leaning in close to the monitor trying to find that third difference. comp26.gif

  7. Yeah that was quite the sad display of pitching those first couple of innings. But considering the guy hasnt thrown in a game for about 10 days, there was bound to be some rust. He's playing on a much bigger stage now with a first place team with some pitching struggles. Theres a good deal of pressure. He's pitching to a new catcher for the first time. The Marlins are a surging team right now. We had to lose a game sooner or later. By all rights we should have won that game, but these things happen.

I think Johnson did a half decent job after those first couple of innings. Beckett and Schilling he is not but could Clement have done any better?? Hell even Tavarez and Seanez didnt allow any runs...who saw that coming???

And the bullpen held things together. the offense just wasnt there for us last night. Ortiz given a day off till the ninth, Crisp back at the top of the order, no DH...not the best set up for a win IMHO. Oh well, tonight we start a new streak!!!

trink38.gif Coco Crisp just reminded the entire Nation why we shouldnt be too upset Damon is wearing pinstripes. This HAS to make WebGems for sure!!! He just stole a huge hit in the top of the eigth with a man on first, 3-2 Boston and 2 outs to end the inning. It looked like a gapper for sure. He extends, leaves his feet and MAKES THE CATCH!!!!!!!!!

I'm going back and voting again for Crisp in the MVP ballot!!!

AND while I'm typing this Papi goes to deep center with a solo HR-->4-2 Boston!!!!!

how good was that game? seriously? Glavine was great through 5, Schilling was his ussual brilliant self for 7, Paplebon did his thing (broke the Sox team record for saves by a rookie, held by the Monster Dick Raditz)...then Loretta and Ortiz have homers, you have some great base running, some small ball played beautifully by Crisp, Gonzalez and Youkilis (bunt single, stolen base, sac bunt, and a sac fly to go ahead)......and the Sox just tied the Major League record for most consectutive games played without commiting an error......brilliant

    Bring on the Marlins

Tivo automatically recorded it and I am giving serious thought to not deleting it!! It was just a great game all around pitching, offense, defense..

Dont get more than a couple of those a year. Felt like an ALCS or WS kinda game.

    And the Sox won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nice left fielder! boy the mets are going all the way this year!

Hey in all fairness to the kid, LF in Fenway is a biotch, it was windy and from all accounts the guy has been pretty darn good till now and thats coming from a Sox fan. Maybe you can chalk that first drop Tues to being unfamiliar and the wind was whipping the ball around. The catcher gave up on one that got pushed back into the first row from way back. The drop in left field tonight, the Monster intimidated him?? and he he was thinking too much about yesterdays game... unsure.gif

Barring the ebola virus taking out the Mets pitching staff, seems clear that they are gonna take the NL east. As to the rest... confused13.gif wouldnt count on a 1986 rematch from the Mets side anyway.

  11. Four runs in the first?? Pedro hasnt melted down like that since the Zimmerman fight!! Thought for sure we were looking at two nights of 1-0 and 2-1 games. Randolph is going to be hard pressed to put that kid back in LF for game 3. Seemed like he was starting to pull it together towards the end of tonights game but you cant cost your team 4 runs at his age. He makes that catch in the first and its only 2-0 and that I think Pedro could have worked with.

Watched most of the game at the local tavern owned by a HUGE Mets fan. I suggested to his bartender (Sox fan) that she rearrange the baseball caps hanging above the bar so that the Sox cap is covering the mets cap!!! biggrin.gif

  12. Never got in to Xanth but I've read the Incarnations series more times than I can count, blue Adept almost as many and Mode a couple of times, though the first two many, many times.

Anthony always struck me from his characters and Notes as a man that loved ethical questions and strived to bring those out through his characters. the phrase "not so much PC" would be a fitting description. I dont believe he has anything against women. I can't think of one of his books that I've read where there was not at least one strong woman character. Lady Blue, Yellow and Brown Adepts, Sheen from the Adept series; Luna, Jolie, Orb, from the Incarnation series (and Orlene becomes God(dess) in the series finale; Colene is the heroine in the Mode books. Sex is not a taboo subject at all. The male urge is not watered down or falsely represented. I can see where some may take that as degrading to women but I took that as an unvarnished perspective on the human condition.

  13. Rain, rain go away

Come again another day..(when we are on the road)

wacko.gif Maybe we can rent out the team to play in drought areas on days off..Little charity work and PR all at the same time..

  14. Again, outside of interleague and playoffs I usually dont see more than one or two NL games a year, so I officially disqualify myself as any sort of expert on the NL.

I dont think we wont have seen anything truly competetive from our Nl opponents until Tuesday. I think the phillies were the one NL loss so far. Swept the Braves, first 2 from Philly this time. The Braves this year arent the Braves of the past and the Phillies dont have much beyond some home run pop.

Unlike Damon, I'm (sorta) looking forward to seeing Pedro pitch again especially if its against Schilling.
