  1. I plan on having chicken and ratatouille tonight. Probably going to cut a chicken in half, and now I'm thinking about how to season it. I have a bunch of mint and lime I might use.

I underestimated how generously you have to be when seasoning a chicken. The ratatouille was good though; made it into a risotto.

  2. Homemade cake bread with dates and walnuts. You slice it and put some butter on it. Yummy!

(the picture is one I found on the Internet, but it looks just the one I made)

Post the recipe. I'd love to make it when the weather turns cool again.

    Ingredients:

2.5 dl / 8.4 oz of milk (whole or skimmed doesn't matter)

    100 g / 0.22 lbs sugar

    60 g / 0.13 lbs butter

175 g / 0.38 lbs of chopped dates (without stones)

    125 g / 0.27 lbs flour

    125 g / 0.27 lbs graham flour

1 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon of salt

    One beaten egg

    60 g / 0.13 lbs chopped walnuts

    A loaf pan measuring 22 x 11 x 7 cm. That's 8.66 x 4.33 x 2.75 in inches.

    Step 1:

Heat the oven to 175 degrees celcius, or 347 degrees fahrenheit.

Grease the loaf pan with butter.

Heat milk, sugar and butter until the butter is melted, stir in the chopped dates and let it cool until lukewarm.

    Step 2:

Mix the two types of flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Make a pocket in the middle and add the milk mixture from step one, egg and walnuts. Stir shortly until the ingredients are mixed.

    Step 3:

Put the cake mix in the loaf pan and bake it for approximately 35-45 minutes. When you can stick a knife in it and it comes clean out without cake sticking to it, it is done (you probably already know that).

Let it cool in the loaf pan.

That's all there is too it. If you have any questions shoot me a message.

    Bon apetit :)

  3. I had the day off from work so I took my dog on a walk at the nature trail about a mile from my house. i then noticed a couple walking the other way with their dog and we exchanged pleasantries. But then I noticed a familiarity. Bill? Suzi? Hi, I',m Bob ********. She was a close coworker that I worked with for 10 years and hadn't seen since 93. We used to hang out all the time (no monkey business, just friends). She was married to Bill at the time and still is. They were shocked when they realized it was me.

As we talked a little more, we realized we lived about 1/4 mile from each other. The last I knew, they lived in a custom home about 25 miles away.

It was a brief talk since their dog was stressing out, but a pleasant chance meeting. They're regulars on that trail so we'll likely meet again.

I also attended my close high school friend's wedding a couple of months ago. We hadn't seen each other in 35 years. But it was great...we immediately starting ripping on each other like it was yesterday. It's becoming an interesting summer of catching up to people I haven't seen in years. I tend to loose contact with people in my past frequently...for no known reason, we just move on.

It's funny when you meet people again after many years, especially when there's no hard feelings between you. I had friends I had lost contact with for almost 7 years, and then out of the blue we get in touch, and we start riffing on each other like it was yesterday. Kind of feels like coming home in a way.

  4. My living room is becoming cozy. The shelves have been put up which uncluttered the floor (I hate having stuff on the floor). The stereo is optimised and a friend let me borrow his subwoofer for a few days. Holy smokes what a difference. My B&W speakers are compact sized so they lack the deep bottom end. The end goal is having a subwoofer on each side, perhaps driven by two mono-block amplifiers.

    I'm dreaming

But as of now I'm blasting my music collection :7up:

  5. I couldn't get anything I made to look that good ever.

Some people just have the knack; others don't.

The downside is the food is often lukewarm or cold before I get to eat it, because I have to dress the plate, or often because I do the dishes before I eat. After dinner it's couch-time :D

  6. Sorry about your wife. I can understand why you're feeling indifferent.

That's a tough dilemma. I would probably like to know so I could better my chances of a better health. My family on my father's side has a history of colon cancer, which I've been tested for. Every second or third year I have to have a colonoscopy done, unless I notice changes when I'm on the toilet, then I have to be checked sooner. It's not something I like to think about, and a colonoscopy is not something I look forward too at all. My grandmother had colon cancer and survived, my father got it and died. So the thought of cancer is never far away, but I'd rather know if I have it so I can be treated when the changes of cure is highest. I don't know if that's the same with your situation, but I hope early diagnosis can leave you with greater change of cure, should you be so unfortunately.

Seeing what cancer does when it has its grip on a person, leaves me knowing that if I ever got it that bad, I would say my goodbyes and end it myself.

    Damn, old sores still bleed.

  7. Analog, is Denmark's Royal Navy big?

I didn't know so I had to consult with Google. The answer is no. A quick search tells me we have around 4 ships, so a handful of ships I would say. If Russia wants to invade all we can do is have beet soup and vodka ready.

Edit: We have NATO and so far a good relationship with USA, so yeah, hopefully that doesn't change :D

  8. You know those days when you make that perfect meal? Well, yesterday was one of them. Fresh pasta with homemade tomato sauce and meatballs.

The tomato sauce was made with canned and puréed tomatoes (couldn't get fresh ones with good enough quality), with basil and thyme from my little herb garden. Some garlic, chopped onions, bay leaves, salt and pepper.

The meatballs was minced meat mashed together with one egg, chopped parsley, salt, pepper, and graded parmesan cheese.

Thank God I have leftovers for days :D

Is that an actual picture of what you made? It looks delicious.

Too hot here to cook these days. Another reason to look forward to the end of summer and cooler weather.

Yes it is :). I have a habit of taking pictures of food I like, or is presented well, for inspiration. People probably think I'm weird when I do it at restaurants, and sure occasionally one or two ends up on Instagram ;)
