Yes by far as well, over the last 40 years, I listen to other music but Rush is a regular
-
1978 I was 10
I was 10 as well, I never thought I would still be seeing new music from them at this point
-
I've been a Rush fan since 76-77 but didn't buy an album or see them in concert till 1984 GRACE UNDER PRESSURE. It was Ged's voice that caught my ear.....Back then I can remember saying "who is that guy screaming and that is a guy right"?
Ged's voice caught my attention too, but then I fell in love with the lyrics and the odd time changes

37 years.
Nice thread to separate the men from boys haha!
I guess I'm a man, then.
Separating the "men from the boys" is a silly trivial male pursuit. Women are above, therefore automatically excluded from such nonsense.. ;)
Agreed add to the fact I've been a fan for 40 years...lol

Found them in 1975 at the age of 10...fan ever since

"I don't think Neil has to consider a damn bit how the fans feel. He's got every right to quit if he wants, and spend all of his time with his family. He doesn't owe anybody anything. "
This exactly !

That is truly awesome. and hey you weren't at the bathroom this time :)Hey I just picked mine up at Best Buy, and found out that I made the packaging! The inside photo was taken at LA, and you can see me (or, at least, my orange baseball cap) next to my friend Christine (blue shirt) in the lower right hand side of the picture. Nice of them to personalize my R40 experience. What a souvenir!

I was able to pick mine up a few days ago (One of my local indie shops lets me get new releases as soon as they get them in). I haven't listened to/watched the whole thing yet (Especially since there's a crack going all the way through my CD 1 :( ), but generally speaking I like what I hear, and I love what I see. The cinematography is fantastic - definitely the best on a Rush release IMO. I know I've read elsewhere that people are unhappy with the heavy shift towards the blue end of the spectrum but that doesn't bother me, especially since this one has a nice consistent look across all angles for the first time since S&A (Time Machine's black levels were all over the place, and the shots on CA were not all cross-processed equally).
The sound is excellent to me. Very clear mix, miles ahead of Clockwork Angels. The 5.1 mix on the Blu Ray could be more engaging - probably 95% of the mix is coming from the front speakers; the rear speakers only offer up crowd noise when there's a significant amount, and room echo the rest of the time (But it's quiet enough you won't even notice it unless you're right up against your rear speakers). Even if it's not an engaging mix, it still sounds excellent.
My biggest gripe however is their reluctance to touch up some trouble spots in some of the songs. There's some really rough spots; Alex starts Far Cry on the wrong chord (It takes about 4 hits for him to fix it), Neil completely drops the beat coming off his first fill in YYZ during the trading bass/drum solos, and Alex lands on the wrong chords for a few seconds during the galloping part of the 2112 Overture. There may be a few others, but those are the ones I remember offhand. I'm not suggested they should've doctored the performance until it was absolutely perfect, but I think those are some pretty glaring problems. Especially considering something similar happened on Time Machine and not only did they fix it with a performance from another night, but made it glaringly obvious they did so in the liner notes. It's not enough to ruin the release for me or anything, but I am definitely scratching my head over it.
Ok I haven't gotten mine yet, but in thinking about it I was hoping they would leave the the trouble spots....makes it seem more like a live experience than having it perfect, I have the studio CDs for that

I wonder if Neil has trouble with T4E, being his daughter was killed around that time, OLV is I don't know, is his come back song IMHO
-
I think he moves well for his age as well, which makes him seem younger
-
I don't know, I think he looks his age

He's just more photogenic than the other two usually
This cracks me up because in the early days I think Geddy would have been considered the 'least' photogenic

genes and I honestly think Geddy takes better care of himself over the years, but mostly genes, his mom is 90 I think and still looks great

Grace by Grace

This is really hard to answer. What I'm drawn to with Geddy is the passion he puts into his work. Even when he has done a song a million times he still can imbue it with feeling, it is magical really.
The music is so much more than just the way his voice sounds, in fact without the support of both Alex and Neil I just don't think it would have the same impact.
I like a lot of his solo stuff too, but it brings a completely different emotion out in me than the stuff he has done with RUSH.

FBN was my intro to Rush, I was 10 years old, it hit me on a visceral level, love every song on it for different reasons, love still 40 years later, for many of the same reasons, love it.

I am not sure why they loved that photo, I've seen some better photos from fans.

I don't blame Neil at all. I would love to see them again but if I was in his place I wouldn't want to do it either. He has to feel a great deal of guilt over all the things he missed when he was touring while his first daughter was growing up. He's already older and not guaranteed to see this daughter grow up completely. He has money and a great legacy and went out with a great album and tour.
As much as I love this band and seeing them live, I completely agree and I would do the same thing if I were Neil.
Now do I hope they do more live shows of course I do, but I don't begrudge them any happiness and choices they make to have the kind of life they want and enjoy.

I can only add that I sat front row in front of Alex this year, and was blown away...BLOWN AWAY!
I bet you were. I would have been too. More so than being in front of Geddy.
Yes and I was so surprised because I have always been a fan of Geddy, but wow Alex won me over but good!

Ha ha I was just thinking that one reason women, well me in particular, might like Geddy's voice is that we can sing along with him. I mean I have trouble singing along with someone like Barry White...kwim.

Yes, love Geddy's voice. It was a main draw the first time I listened to their music, that, and the lyrics. Geddy sings with such emotion. It really wasn't until I sat front row in front of Alex that I really could appreciate the amazing talent that man has. I could hardly believe how fast his fingers flew across the strings. It was weird many times my brain had a hard time comprehending that the movement I was watching were creating the music my ears were hearing. Truly an awesome band.
