  1. This one is also great from Improbable Cause. It's not just the lines that are great but Andrew Robinson's performance, he injects every line with a nuance.

Sisko: Someone tried to kill you, Garak. Whoever it was may try again, so if I were you, I would give this matter some serious thought. Garak: Well, let me see. I mean, there's the Nausicaan whose wedding suit I misplaced; and the Yridian I owe money to; and of course, there's always Major Kira.

Dr. Bashir: This is serious, Garak.

Garak: I'm being serious. I don't think she likes me.

Odo: She doesn't. But if she wanted you dead, you would be.

Garak: You do have a point.

  2. Thought I'd start this fun little topic seen as Garak has so many good lines in the show. My current favourite is from "Way of the Warrior"-

(Klingon says something to Odo in Klingon assuming they won't understand the insult)

Garak: Actually I don't believe Constable Odo has a mother.

(Klingon looks shocked that Garak knows Klingon. They walk off)

Odo: I didn't know you spoke Klingon.

Garak: Oh, You'd be surprised at the things you can learn when you're doing alterations.

Would love to know other peoples favourite lines.

  3. It was okay. There was some good stuff but there was some equally dumb stuff. I was disappointed considering that this was the same creative teams that brought us Watchmen, Batman Begins, the Dark Knight and the Dark Knight Rises. The tone an morals were all over the place as well. My least favourite of the movies I've seen this summer.
  4. I like to know what's being played at any gig. I don't like going to concerts and the band plays songs I don't know, because I know that 3 months down the line I'll listen to those songs and end up really liking them and being annoyed that I missed out on knowing those songs at the time. So looking at the Setlist allows me to become familiar with songs I might not have listened to. For example I had never given the synth era much attention, I have to admit I'd always been a synth hater without actually ever listening to the songs very much. But when I heard they were playing a lot of synth era songs on this tour, I was a bit annoyed, heck I even made an account to voice my opinions on here. But eventually I bought the synth era albums and not only got into the ones they were playing but ones that they weren't. Between the Wheels, Emotion Detector, the Enemy Within, Afterimage, all of them, I love them all now!

I'd like to think now that I know the entire discography that I might not look at the Setlist if they ever do another tour, but I know that I'll crumble and look at it anyway.

  5. Not to harsh anyone's mellow but some of us actually LEARNED this stuff with chord books, albums, ears and time. Give a man a fish vs teach a man to fish. I mean it is good that people are willing to help each other. Perhaps because there was no internet when I started to figure this stuff out but more likely the satisfaction of truly understanding of how these songs work is more gratifying than having another person show me. You will be surprised what you can learn with a little time and energy. Having someone else do the work is a little like cheating to me. Maybe I'm a hard a$$ but no one can take away from you what you learn on your own.

I know TONS of these but have not posted because no one showed me. I had a friend help point me in the right direction for programming synth tones but the rest I figured out myself. I have helped others with specific songs or passages but that's different than the entire catalog. If someone has tried on their own but just can't get their head around something then ok.

We have had similar discussions in the past here with regards to tabs here. Many of them are shoddy or just plain wrong. You end up playing somebody else's bad mistake. Not that the guys posting here are wrong or bad (honestly I only looked at Yyz) but trusting someone other than Geddy Lee himself is ill advised in my opinion. :)

Thus ends my social service announcement. Carry on...

I get your point, but that is precisely why I like helping people out. Most of the stuff can be found online somewhere, be it on YouTube or other websites. But there's just sone stuff that can't be found. Emotion Detector, Red Sector A and Chemistry are good examples, I learnt those by ear. While it was gratifying to learn it myself it would have been nice if there were online resources to help me ou because I'm not a musician and can't listen t something and figure I out. Most of he time I just get lucky. That's why I help out because I like to pass on the knowledge I have gained so other people can have the help I only wished of having. A

So I don't profess to know the exact way you play them, I am only putting out there how I play them. I mean I know shone of the chords for the Aalog Kid is wrong and I do need to work on that.

  6. This is how I play Red Sector A however it's incomplete as you need an arpeggiated bass line for the into.

    Verse

    Am G Bdim G Am Am x4

    Am G

Am G Bdim G Am Am

    Chorus

    Am Em F G Am Em F

    After the solo

Am G Bdim G Am Am Am Am

Am G Bdim G Am Am Am Am Am Am Am Am Am Am

  7. I might not have time to write them all out so here are some useful websites and videos.

    Distant Early Warning- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVX3Ua9686E

    Territories-

    Rush Keybaord Tab Website- http://www.cygnusproductions.com/rtp/keys/keys.asp

    Middletown Dreams-

    Mystic Rhythms (Synth bass)- http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/r/rush/mystic_rhythms_btab.htm

    Tom Saywer-

    The Big Money-

Also something I've found that's good is that a lot of websites have synth parts for Rush songs tabbed out for guitar, so if you get a tuner play the note or chord you can then transpose that to keybaord.

    Emotion Detector

    Intro (Notes)

    G C F G D x2

    C F G D x4

    F G A G F D E G F D C D

    F G A G F D E G F G D

    F G A G F D E G F A G D C D

    F G A G F D E G F

    After first verse

    F G A G F D E G F D C D

    F G A G F D E G F E D E F G

    Chorus (Chords)

    C C C C F G Dm Am G x 3

    C F G Dm Am G

End of the guitar solo (Notes)

    F G A G F D E G F D C D

    F G A G F D E G F G D

    F G A G F D E G F A G D C D

    F G A G F D E G F E D E F G

    End chorus (Chords)

    C C C C D D D D x 2

    C C C C F G Dm Am G

    C C C C F G Dm x 2

    C C C C D D D D

    C F G Dm Am G C C C C

Hope this helps. Sorry I can't write them all out for you as some can be found on other websites apart from a few, suchas Emotion Detector which I learnt by ear apart from the chorus parts.

  8. House should be way higher. That show was written fantastically. Sex and the City made the list? Really? I'm pleased Battlestar Galactica made the list as in my opinion that transcends the genre of science fiction and is one of the greatest of the 21st century.

I agree that Battlestar Galactica (not the 70's version, obviously :P ) transcends the genre. I think of it as THE science-fiction show for people who don't like science-fiction.

Exactly! I've been trying to tell people how not nerdy it is. I'm a massive science fiction fan and was expecting it to be in the same vain as Star Trek, Farscape and other shows like that. It wasn't but it was still awesome. I describe it as TopGun in space with robots.

except 500 times better than top gun! :P

it's really the dramatic aspects of the story and the characters/psychology/relationships that take it well beyond the genre.

Great to see RDM's BSG get some love. It is the second highest ranked sci-fi on the list, edged by ST:TOS. To me, RDM's BSG is the greatest sci-fi show ever written and I am a big sci-fi fan. I had to watch from the BSG mini-series to get the complete picture, but once I did, I was absolutely enthralled. Everyone I've shown it to (I own the complete series) has loved it regardless of whether they are sci-fi fans or not. The writing and acting are simply superb and it transcends the genre.

    http://www.thescifiworld.net/img/smilies/galactica/cylon/cylon002.gif

Of course, my opinion of the show isn't evident from my signature ... or location ... or member title ... ;)

my fave sci-fi show is still star trek TNG, but battlestar is way up there.

It was a strange feeling for me when BSG displaced TNG. I'm still a big TNG fan too (and TOS). I have a friend whose watching Voyager now (again) and it's funny to listen to him talk about watching the show jump the shark - just like a traffic accident. I remember the exact same feeling. Kind of a wtf sort of feeling as I softly cursed Berman's and Braga's names under my breath... :wtf:

i loved voyager. in fact, i loved every star trek series. DS9 was easily the weakest one for me, and even that was pretty great.

Personally I thiought DS9 was the strongest. For me its DS9, TOS, TNG, VOY, ENT.

  9. I have loads. YYZ is pretty simple.

    Opening

    F# G# D# C# C x 2 then I end on a low C. This part is played on pedals while Geddy plays bass.

Solo (these are how I play them, they're the right chords but I've seen others play the solo differently, I suggest using these chords to find what works best for you)

    Am G D D D D F

    Am Bdim Bdim G Am G D D D D D F (G F - add these extra chords at the end of the solo)

As I say these are the chords and this is how I play it, but I've seen others not hit the D chord as much as I do. I assume you're familiar with the song so just listen to it and find out how you think it should be played.

The Analog Kid is one I know the basics too but there are parts I think that need ironing here, but here is what ipkau. Again, onc you have these you can play around with it.

    Chorus (Chords)

    F G

Just repeat those chords through the "You move me..." section.

"Too many hands on my time..." (just before the solo)

    Am Am G G x2

    F F G G

Part played over the solo and until the end. (Notes)

    A C B G A

And then every so often, it shifts to this. As I say you probably know the song so you can work out when it does this.

    A C B G F G A F G

Which Power Windows songs would you like? However I don't know the arpeggiated parts as my keyboard won't allow me to do that. I know parts to the Big Money, Marathon, Territories, Middletown Dreams and Mystic Rhythms however I do know all of Emotion Detector.

  11. It was awesome! However as I have said before, my only complaint is that my section was pretty dead atmosphere wise. i have no idea how people can just sit there and watch. I wanted to get up and air bass, air guitar and air drum throughout the whole thing. Next time I'm going to try and get seats closer to the floor as they seemed to be showing their enjoyment much more than anyone around me.
  12. I got V for Vendetta yesterday and something called Batman: The Black Mirror which has Dick Grayson taking over the role as Batman. I think of it in much the same way as when Bucky was given the title of Captain America

Sounds interesting. I'm a big Batman fan and must have about 30 Batman graphic novels. Always liked the work of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. These three books are just top notch.

The Long Halloween and Dark Victory are my favorite Batman books. Haunted Knight is good too.

I've been wanting to pick up Dark Victory especially. I've never heard of Haunted Knight...or is that the collection with one of the stories like A Christmas Carol?

Yeah, it's a collection of the three Halloween one-shots that Loeb and Sale did together. The Christmas Carol one (Ghosts) is silly as shit, but I like the first two stories.

The Long Halloween was the first Batman and first graphic novel I bought EVER. It's awesome. Dark Victory is just as good, some of the images in that actually scare me slightly when you're reading it in bed just before turning the light out and going to sleep. Especially the Sofia Gigante stuff. Sale's realyy good at adding that creepy edge to it. Must confess, I haven't actually raed Haunted Knight yet. I have it and it's on my too read list. After I get through Brave New World nad the League series I'll probably start on that. Might be a holiday read. Loeb's got to be up there with Miller and Moore for me. Love his stuff. I actually need to get a new copy of Hush. i loved that book but it fell apart after a few months. Might try to find either a hardback copy or a paperback one just for show. Their Marvel stuff together is also on my "too get" list. I have Spiderman Blue but I reallyw ant to get Hulk Grey and Daredevil Yellow, the latter especially as I really love the Dardevil character and only have part of Miller's run.

I've read several Batman mags over the years but the only other storyline I own is Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. I'm more of a Marvel guy but I'll read anything if it seems interesting. [batman: Year One was quite good too]. Black Mirror does a good job going to the Batman story roots of detective/mystery. I won't give anything away but I really enjoyed the villain in this. And they did a really good job of putting Grayson in the situation of being Gotham's protector. Additionally, the artwork is spot-on....i.e. Grayson is athletic but he isn't huge and broad-shouldered like Bruce. You can see that when he's put in the costume. It's worth purchasing

While the new movies were excellent, the who,e detective side of it is something I hope they'll focus more on in the next series. the Dark Knight Returns is good, so I'd Year One. The Dark Knight Strikes Again is alright, nothing to special. Very colourful.

  15. Classic Rock praises them so much that I always keep it in the back of my mind to check them out, but haven´t done it so far. Any songs you wanna recommend?

First two albums, Rise and Everyday Demons are just excellent albums where as their third, Revival is a bit hit and miss if you buy the deluxe album Disc 2 is considerably better than disc one.
