  1. From Body Parts: Quark: You weren't always a tailor. Garak: No you're right, I used to be a gardener. So if you need anything weeding, you let me know.
  2. This one is also great from Improbable Cause. It's not just the lines that are great but Andrew Robinson's performance, he injects every line with a nuance. Sisko: Someone tried to kill you, Garak. Whoever it was may try again, so if I were you, I would give this matter some serious thought. Garak: Well, let me see. I mean, there's the Nausicaan whose wedding suit I misplaced; and the Yridian I owe money to; and of course, there's always Major Kira. Dr. Bashir: This is serious, Garak. Garak: I'm being serious. I don't think she likes me. Odo: She doesn't. But if she wanted you dead, you would be. Garak: You do have a point.
  3. Thought I'd start this fun little topic seen as Garak has so many good lines in the show. My current favourite is from "Way of the Warrior"- (Klingon says something to Odo in Klingon assuming they won't understand the insult) Garak: Actually I don't believe Constable Odo has a mother. (Klingon looks shocked that Garak knows Klingon. They walk off) Odo: I didn't know you spoke Klingon. Garak: Oh, You'd be surprised at the things you can learn when you're doing alterations. Would love to know other peoples favourite lines.
  4. It was okay. There was some good stuff but there was some equally dumb stuff. I was disappointed considering that this was the same creative teams that brought us Watchmen, Batman Begins, the Dark Knight and the Dark Knight Rises. The tone an morals were all over the place as well. My least favourite of the movies I've seen this summer.
  5. I like to know what's being played at any gig. I don't like going to concerts and the band plays songs I don't know, because I know that 3 months down the line I'll listen to those songs and end up really liking them and being annoyed that I missed out on knowing those songs at the time. So looking at the Setlist allows me to become familiar with songs I might not have listened to. For example I had never given the synth era much attention, I have to admit I'd always been a synth hater without actually ever listening to the songs very much. But when I heard they were playing a lot of synth era songs on this tour, I was a bit annoyed, heck I even made an account to voice my opinions on here. But eventually I bought the synth era albums and not only got into the ones they were playing but ones that they weren't. Between the Wheels, Emotion Detector, the Enemy Within, Afterimage, all of them, I love them all now! I'd like to think now that I know the entire discography that I might not look at the Setlist if they ever do another tour, but I know that I'll crumble and look at it anyway.
  6. Just seen the Who for the very first time, doing Quadrophenia in full plus other hits! f***ing epic man! Awesome show!
  7. I agree that Battlestar Galactica (not the 70's version, obviously :P ) transcends the genre. I think of it as THE science-fiction show for people who don't like science-fiction. Exactly! I've been trying to tell people how not nerdy it is. I'm a massive science fiction fan and was expecting it to be in the same vain as Star Trek, Farscape and other shows like that. It wasn't but it was still awesome. I describe it as TopGun in space with robots. except 500 times better than top gun! :P it's really the dramatic aspects of the story and the characters/psychology/relationships that take it well beyond the genre. Great to see RDM's BSG get some love. It is the second highest ranked sci-fi on the list, edged by ST:TOS. To me, RDM's BSG is the greatest sci-fi show ever written and I am a big sci-fi fan. I had to watch from the BSG mini-series to get the complete picture, but once I did, I was absolutely enthralled. Everyone I've shown it to (I own the complete series) has loved it regardless of whether they are sci-fi fans or not. The writing and acting are simply superb and it transcends the genre. http://www.thescifiworld.net/img/smilies/galactica/cylon/cylon002.gif Of course, my opinion of the show isn't evident from my signature ... or location ... or member title ... ;) my fave sci-fi show is still star trek TNG, but battlestar is way up there. It was a strange feeling for me when BSG displaced TNG. I'm still a big TNG fan too (and TOS). I have a friend whose watching Voyager now (again) and it's funny to listen to him talk about watching the show jump the shark - just like a traffic accident. I remember the exact same feeling. Kind of a wtf sort of feeling as I softly cursed Berman's and Braga's names under my breath... i loved voyager. in fact, i loved every star trek series. DS9 was easily the weakest one for me, and even that was pretty great. Personally I thiought DS9 was the strongest. For me its DS9, TOS, TNG, VOY, ENT.

  9. House should be way higher. That show was written fantastically. Sex and the City made the list? Really? I'm pleased Battlestar Galactica made the list as in my opinion that transcends the genre of science fiction and is one of the greatest of the 21st century.
  10. It was awesome! However as I have said before, my only complaint is that my section was pretty dead atmosphere wise. i have no idea how people can just sit there and watch. I wanted to get up and air bass, air guitar and air drum throughout the whole thing. Next time I'm going to try and get seats closer to the floor as they seemed to be showing their enjoyment much more than anyone around me.
  11. First two albums, Rise and Everyday Demons are just excellent albums where as their third, Revival is a bit hit and miss if you buy the deluxe album Disc 2 is considerably better than disc one.
  12. He's still performing. Still a creative spirit. You may have to travel a bit, but it would be worth it The thing is I'm from the UK and not in one of the major cities. When he comes he usually plays London or Manchester or Birmingham and tickets sell fast. It's like Tom Petty, he played the Albert Hall last summer. I would have cu both my legs off to have gone to that and was willing to travel but tickets sold in a flash.
  13. Anyone heard of the Irish rock band, the Answer?
  14. Paul Simon is on my to see list. He's on of those guys like Tom Petty who I really want to see but I know it's a very slim chance. But still, here's hoping...
  15. R.I.P. An inspiration, always loved the Doors. Not many of these guys left now...
  16. I didn't know who this was at first but when I googled him I knew who he was at once. Always knew him for Uriah Heep and not so much Spiders, shame... R.I.P.
  17. Star Trek: First Contact featured the Borg. Excellent film. :ebert: Nemesis featured an evil clone of Picard, who conquered Romulus. Not an excellent film. :boo hiss: Phew! I really liked the one with the Borg, and I was worried that was Nemisis... and therfore inducing the nerd rage of the trekkies on this board. I personally think Nemesis gets a bit too much hate. It's not the worst but then again it's not that great either. The thing about it is it's a recognisable John Logan script. A story with good ideas and themes that just can't be knitted together in a well enough way. The ideas were good, the execution was bad.
  18. In my opinion Insurrection is like Search for Spock, it's not a bad movie but neither is it a great one it's just meh. I think most people's criticisms of it and I am inclined to agree with them is that it felt like an episode and when faced with this kind of dilemma before they've always sided with Starfleet.
  19. I loved all of BSG, but yes, season 3 was especially great. http://www.thescifiworld.net/img/smilies/galactica/cylon/cylon_newanime006.gif Exodus Pt. II may have the coolest effect I've ever seen when Galactica jumped into the atmosphere, fell 100,000 feet and then jumped away. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-shocked016.gif I've never understood Dr. Who. Season 5 of 24 was really good too. The Simpsons ... too much, too funny, hurt brain (stupid brain) ... I loved all of it as well, but I felt season four was the weakest season of all. But the weakest of BSG is still light years ahead of Star Trek Voyager. I think to be more specific the second half of season four was weak, the first half was pretty good. The thing that annoyed me was the episode when Ellen Tigh came back and had a go at Saul for fracking Six, when she was fracking Cavill at the beginning of Season three, And didn't have a problem with it. Yes, that was crazy but I thought also one of the great aspects of the show. By that point, the distinction between Cylon and Human had long been moot. Ellen's behaviour was horrible and very .... well ... human. And, I think it is better than Voyager. Absolutely. I think BSG (RDM re-imagined) is the best sci-fi show ever, imho. Hmmmm, I'd probably place BSG on an even footing with Farscape, Firefly, Doctor Who, Star Trek: TOS, TNG and DS9. Ronald D. Moore is my idol, I really want to be a sci-fi screenwriter and RDM is in my opinion one of the greatest.
  20. I'm really mixed about it. There was some good stuff in it but I still ahve no idea what the Whispermen were and why Simeon wanted to go to Trenzalore other than "revenge". Moffatt lied to us, he told us a secret would be revealed in THIS episode. I'm not wanting his name to be revealed but at least some kind of secret abot him. You could argue John Hurt was the secret but what did we really learn about him? False advertising by Moffatt there. But then again I don't want to be hard on the episode because while it's technically a stand alone episode it's going to lead into the 50th technically making it a two-parter. The whole crossing time lines got a bit confusing, Simeon, then Clara then the Doctor it all got a bit confusing and convoluted at times. And the mystery behind Clara was just predictbale and they told the audience in the first ten minutes. No build up at all. The integration of the classic series clips was good. Overall I'd say 7 or 6/10.
  21. For me it's got to be: 1. The Undiscovered Country 2. Wrath of Khan 3. First Contact 4. The Voyage Home 5. Into Darkness 6. Star Trek 7. The Search for Spock 8. Insurrection 9. Nemesis 10. Generations 11. The Motion Picture 12. The Final Frontier
  22. Oooooooh. Tough one, there are so many good Paul Simon lines. I've always liked: She comes back to tell me she's gone, as if I didn't know that as if I didn't know my own bed, as if I'd never noticed the way she brushed her hair from afar again, and I said loosing love is like a window in yours heart, everybody sees you're blown apart... Most of You Can Cal Me Al is awesome, as well as Me and Julio. My favourite Simon and Garfunkel line has to be: I have no need for friendship, friendship causes pain, it's laughter and it's loving I distain...
  23. Title pretty much sums this topic up. Mines: 1. The Dark Knight 2. Blade Runner 3. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country 4. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan 5. Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back 6. Watchmen 7. Pulp Fiction 8. V for Vendetta 9. The Avengers 10. Serenity
  24. I really liked it I thought it was a considerable step up from the previous one. However the ending felt rushed and the whole reactor scene pissed me off. There's referencing lines made in previous Star Trek episodes and films and then there's just copying but adding nothing. I thought they made the Khan story line different enough from Space Seed and Wrath of Khan but then completely ripped off that movie in this one. I would have preferred it if they'd gone down a different route. Overall, 7 or 8 out of 10. It's defiantly not as good as II or VI, which are in my opinion the two best but if this is where the franchise is heading then I think it's in safe hands.
