  1. Three game sevens in one night! OMG OMG OMG.

    Also, here's an interesting thought:

If the Bruins (an original six team) make the finals, it's possible that every opponent could be another original six team - Red Wings, Canadiens, Rangers, Blackhawks. (Oh, poor Toronto)

    Wouldn't THAT be cool?!

Looking forward to this...lots of channel switching  Red Wings have been eliminated so that scenario is out. Here's to some good games. Hope the Hawks are nice and rested...Captain Serious had his birthday yesterday :musicnote:

Actually, the scenario is still good. I was pointing out that the Bruins entire post-season schedule could end up looking like this:

    Quarters: Bruins defeat Red Wings

    Semis: Bruins defeat Habs

    Conference Finals: Bruins defeat Rangers

    Stanley Cup: Bruins vs Blackhawks

  2. What exactly did this guy do again?...

He exercised his Constitutionally protected right to free speech in the privacy of his own home. Inexcusable, in this day and age.

This story actually illustrates how well our system works and that our right to free speech is being protected.

There are probably many countries in which this medieval douchebag's comments are a punishable offense.

But, no charges have been filed against Sterling - he won't be arrested or jailed.

I'm not sure about the legality of the fine, and perhaps he can fight that (but he has damaged the NBA brand with his words).

The NBA has not brought charges. Only fined him and distanced him from their business.

  4. Waiting For the Sun is not on the Waiting For The Sun album and Houses Of The Holy is not on the Houses of The Holy album.

Queen's 'Sheer Heart Attack' song is not on the 'Sheer Heart Attack' album.

If You Want Blood... is not on the AC/DC album of that name. Neither was High Voltage (originally).

Def Leppard's song On Through the Night is not on the album of the same name, but on the following album, High and Dry.

They planned to do a song called High and Dry for the Pyromania album, but forgot.

  5. Despite a player (Brad Marchand) missing not one, but TWO wide open nets, the Bruins battle back and prevail 3-2 in overtime, outplaying the Wings from mid-2nd period on. They lead 3 games to 1.

Just not enough horses for the ailing Red Wings.

  6. ^^^^^^^

I couldn't do one of these.....way too many good songs to choose from! I'd also choose some obscure stuff that they would never play live.

    I LOVE Priest!!!

Originally I had the two epic songs from Rocka Rolla, Dying to Meet You and Run of the Mill in the set, but I decided to drop them, I wasn't sure how they'd sound in an updated form.

I remember that. I love Dying To Meet You. It's a brilliant tune.

"Synchronised watches flash in the sunlight...."

    Aye!! :haz:

Actually they may do something like this, I heard that they are planning something this year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of Rocka Rolla. So either they've bought out Gull records and will do 40th anniversary editions of Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings, or a special live album or do some Rocka Rolla tunes live. Or maybe something else altogether.

That would be most welcome news. I have avoided buying Rocka Rolla just to prevent those bastards at Gull from getting a single penny from me.

What about Sad Wings of Destiny?

I always thought it was just the first album. Damn.

Well, the greatness of SWoD would have caused me to "suspend" my principles so i could own the album, regardless.

  7. Being a Red Sox fan, I have an inherent hatred for the New York Bankees.

    However:

    1. I've never had a problem with Derek Jeter, Joe Torre or Mariano Rivera. All are class-act Hall of Famers.

    2. Sweet Caroline played in the Stadium last year after the marathon bombings, so at least the Evil Empire knows when to take a break from being evil. That was one helluva gesture.

    3. Derek Jeter was a fabulous hitter, a great leader, a clutch performer, and an atrocious defender. I also do not need stats to confirm or deny what I saw with my own eyes. He stunk. Obviously, with all the positives, he had to stay in the lineup, but SS wasn't the best place for him.

    4. Thank God the Sox finally won the Series in 2004, because, not only did it erase 5,000 horrible memories that were embedded in every part of my being, but it justified the very recent and traumatic trade of Nomar Garciaparra:

In a game against the Yankees that year, Nomar was on the bench because maybe he got hurt during BP when everyone knew it was when he was goofing around with Mia Hamm and also maybe taking too many "vitamins".

But Nomah is still way bettah than Jeetah! Jeetah sux!

Except Nomar was being a baby this day, sitting the game out.

And Jeter was diving into the stands for a pop foul and bloodying his face on some slob's plate of nachos while making a great catch.

And then I had to admit I'd rather have their guy than my guy playing short.

  9. Didn't you guys know?

Baseball has always meant to evolve into a metaphysical argument about the nature of a "catch" and a "throw."

Also, add some existential discussion about "fair" and "foul", or in the case of the left field line at Fenway, knowing when neither fair nor foul applies.

I'm with John Kruk; this replay system is a mess and getting worse by the day.

  10. Habs 3-0 :7up:

Although they had a little help from the refs today - :o

That goal should have counted. That whole sequence changed the game.

That no-goal decision was almost as shameful as the constant diving and whining that the Habs do...

Regardless, they have definitely deserved to win all 3 games so far.

I have never seen a team so unable to move the puck out of its own end as that Tampa Bay Lightning squad.

They absolutely sucked in game 3. I have no idea how they made they playoffs, let alone secured a #2 seed.

If my Bruins get past the Red Wings, they'll have to face a very well-rested Canadiens team.

Why doesn't the President's Trophy winner get to pick their opponent?

Columbus and Tampa would have been far easier opponents than the Wings.

  11. So much for boring.

My Boston Red Sox got screwed out of a couple calls this weekend against the Yankees (one of which the league admitted that they messed up) and John Farrell became the first manager to get tossed from a game for arguing a replay result .

Farrell got his money's worth on his way out, at least, telling the umpire, "shove it up your f***ing ass!"

I'm all for getting the calls right (if in a timely fashion) and I agree with laughedatbyme - hockey does it best.

Football is improving, at least, but I'd love to see penalties challenged, too.

The problem with baseball is that they're trying to enforce very, very fuzzy rules.

The phantom base-step when starting a double-play? Never more?

The "throw beat the runner so he's out stealing" play at second base? A thing of the past?

Kiss them goodbye and try to embrace a whole new set of rules that are needed to replace them.

Here are some of the new "truths".

Did you know that a ball isn't really "caught" if the fielder cannot pull it cleanly out of his glove? I didn't.

And, did you know that the stretching first baseman has "caught" the throw when the ball "enters the glove", not when it touches the leather? Say what?

To try to make EXACT decisions on things that have NEVER been judged EXACTLY is madness, and it's fundamentally changing the way the game is played.

Stick to fair/foul calls and homerun decisions, MLB. I don't want a very long game stopped for three minutes to see a successful base stealer being called out because, although he beat the throw, he took his foot ONE INCH off the base for A QUARTER SECOND while standing up BUT the shortstop's glove had one lace touching the runner's sleeve.

    Please. Enough.

The Red Sox got one blown call, but the safe at first call was very obviously the right one. Farrel was still mad about the previous night, and he decided he'd make a bad argument on something he was wrong about to fire up his team. There's nothing wrong with that and it often works. But let's not pretend he had a real argument.

As far as the rest goes, I'd rather add clarity to the rules than allow umps to make different calls on different days. Replay has worked for every major sport. The problem with this replay is that it is too timid. They need to go in and do it whole hog.

I'm not ranting because the Sox got screwed. I agree with you that Farrell exploded much more due to the night before. But, the first base call could have gone either way (the ball "entered" the glove before the runner's foot [view of which was blocked by Napoli] touched the bag, which came before the ball touched the leather of the glove. Huh?). I'm just saying it should be hard to overturn something without definitive evidence - just like in football. And I think that play, after review, was far from definitive. If the original call had been "safe", I'd be OK with that. It just seemed like a hard thing to overturn.

So, that's my real beef: what these examples have exposed about the whole replay system.

Before the season began, our worst replay nightmares were about the baserunner who stops running halfway to third because the flare down the line was ruled a foul ball. Then replay shows it was fair. And so the runner gets… 3rd base? He scores? Has to go back to second, because that was the last base he touched? Ummmm...

But reality has proven to be worse. The real nightmare is, as you say, the failure to go whole hog.

This new system was not thought through enough, and now we're suddenly learning brand new definitions of "catching" and "transferring" and "touching the bag" that feel alien.

We're one-twelfth of the way through the season, and a slew of normal baseball plays have been turned into metaphysical arguments!

Would the owners have voted for THIS system of video replay if they knew then what they know now?

  12. When I go to golf events, I don't like following people. I like getting a good spot at a hole and watch a few groups, then move to another and watch a few groups. I'm not a groupie :)

That pretty accurately describes what I do, too. We just decide that at some point, we'll catch Bubba and maybe 1 or 2 others.

We gave up on Tiger and Phil. Way too many people.

  13. While I'm not thrilled to be opening up the playoffs with Detroit, I guess the Bruins might as well find out now what they're made of.

Is there anything better than the hockey post season?

    No, there is not.

How about those insane 1st round matchups in the west? LA and San Jose cannot both survive the first round!

And either St. Louis or Chicago has to go home in a few days? Wow!

I'm getting ready to bite my nails for a tough series versus the Red Wings. Go Bruins!

There are so many Cup-worthy teams this year. Going to be a great ride!
