  2. Absolutely surreal.

That game will be remembered long after we're dead.

Not sure why the fans turned on Fred. He had a bad Cup, but it was the Brazilian defense that fell asleep this game. Fred is the one player who doesn't really have a defensive responsibility.

  3. Segue, thank you for sharing. And for feeling that it was safe and OK to share with us.

    It is.

I think you've seen by the reaction here that we all have something in common, and because we do, we also care - a little bit - about each other.

    And every little bit helps.

We all feel sad and worried sometimes. Not like you do, obviously, but we ALL FEEL IT, at least once in a while.

And music helps us ALL get through.

So, if you think about it, you're really not that different.

    You're just one of us.

  4. I heard ELP's Lucky Man today (certainly not the first time ) and got goose bumps at Keith's solo towards the end of the song. You know... WOW

Did you know that he HATES that solo? He was just d***ing around and they recording him. Everyone else absolutely loved it and put it on the album despite the fact that he begged them not to.

Interesting to know. I guess it's one of those times when everyone else is right. :)

I never liked that solo. Cheese-tastic.

  5. Ways to make "futbol" more popular in America:

    1. Penalize diving and fakery, thereby greatly reducing it. How about a post-game video review resulting in yellow cards and fines?

    2. Extra time becomes sudden death. It's WAY more exciting to end on a goal than on a whistle.

    3. More refs on the field. American football has SEVEN at all times, and they still fail to see some infractions.

    4. Only one person on the pitch knows how much time is left in the game? And it's a secret? Put a goddamn countdown clock on the scoreboard. One of the referees can surely handle the duty of clicking it on and off when the ball goes out of bounds.

Also, if a player scores 90 seconds into the added time during the first half, it's recorded at the 47th minute. So what about a goal 30 seconds into the second half? 46th minute? Dumb. Buy a clock.

  6. I was in a record shop one time, awhile back (I worked in record shops for about six years, earlier in my life, but this was after that time), and there was another customer who was looking for a song she didn't know the name of, and she asked the guy behind the counter. But not knowing the name of it, she just started singing it- "Gimme the beat boys, and free my soul"...and the guy just stared at her, blankly. I was standing right there, and I said, "That's called Drift Away, and it's by Dobie Gray. I think it's on one of those "Have a Nice Day, Sounds of the 70s compilations," and then I took her over to show her where to find it, and amazingly, they did have it in stock.

The guy behind the counter just shrugged his shoulders at me and said, "Thanks, man."

It's not on the 10 volumes I have. I never did get around to buying the other 15 volumes. :D

  7. Poor Mexico.

They played well for most of the game, but dialed it way too far back trying to preserve their one-goal lead.

The Dutch kept coming, and it seemed like a matter of time before they got the equalizer.

FWIW, I thought the Robben call was a good call. Unfortunate that it came so late in the game, but it was the right call.

Brazil needs to get its head out of its butt or Colombia will pounce. Yes, Brazil has great talent and confidence, but Colombia seems fearless.

  8. The Stanley Cup will be in my town on Monday!

Hubie McDonough, ex-L.A. King, and Director of Hockey Operations for the Kings' minor league team in Manchester, NH, will be accompanying the Stanley Cup to his alma mater, St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH, on Monday.

What makes it better is that A: I'm a Kings fan, and B: my wife works at St. Anselm college!

I'll try to get a picture of us with the most coveted trophy in sports, and post it here.

    Jacked and pumped!

  9. Yes. This is why the Penguins and Canucks did an overhaul - they are teams built to win a lot of regular season games.

    The Cup-winning formula is simple:

    1. Great goaltending

    2. balanced team with speed, toughness, etc

    3. 4 lines deep

    4. coach > Bylsma

  10. I moshed once, but it was with a very happy group at a Flaming Lips show. No violence. Just balloons and confetti.

I was probably a little too far past my prime, as I got sweaty and tired within 15 minutes.

Then a man dressed as a bunny landed on my neck and I made my way to the back row to cool off.

  12. Yes. The FM stations back in the late sixties/seventies were notorious for playing a string of songs and never telling you what the title/artist was.

But there was one they played from time to time that had a line: Tinkerbell's mind is a crazy machine at the best.

I never found out who did it or what the name of the song was.

Another one: "I"ll ride my stallion if you want me to but I'd really rather walk with you."

To this day, well over forty years later, I have no idea who sang either song, but those lyrics are still in my mind.

    Tinkerbell's Mind?

I'd never heard of that band, or the song, but I gotta say...

that kicked a little bit of ass.

I just read that they formed in NYC in 1965 with an African-American lead singer. Interesting!

  13. I really like the song, and the video had a point, if a bit heavily applied.

This song reminds me of Yes' "Going for the One", in that it seems like it's about to careen out of control, but never does.

  14. Congrats Michelle Wei. First Major - Shes a sweetheart.

Oh...what's with her putting stance? :eh:

    http://sammy-riggs.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Michelle+Wie+Omega+Dubai+Ladies+Masters+Day+FwCjrunIn9Bl.jpg

Last year, Michelle unveiled her “tabletop” putting stroke. It looks ridiculous, but she apparently makes more putts. When addressing the aesthetic critics, like me, on her stroke during the Solheim Cup in August, Michelle said:

“A lot of people have talked about my putting stance or whatnot, but I honestly don’t care how I look as long as I make putts. I think that you walk up to any professional golfer and you tell them ‑‑ give them a choice between looking cool and making putts, and I’m pretty sure everyone’s going to say, ‘making putts.’”

I bet her caddie Duncan likes it.

One-half of the gallery most likely LOVES it.
