Tomorrow - 9am.
I mean, come on guys, we have to plan our summers.
-
I would like to hear what you remember about the concert(s) and the songs they did, especially Xanadu and The Weapon. :)
I remember Xanadu and of course The Weapon with The Count from SCTV doing the intro on the Signals tour.
-
If this is going to be a Spring tour -- shouldn't they be announcing dates and selling seats?
Just blew a substantial concert fund on U2. They better play Gloria and I will follow.
-
Signals was my first tour.
The Count from SCTV introduced the Weapon.
Xanadu —I think they played the whole song.
XXY was last with drum solo.
Power Windows was first tour for multiple shows.

It's probably their last tour so the contrarians need to chill the frag out. We want to here ALL THE CLASSICS!!

CoS doesn't have but one good song...

Was it Colbert that really wanted them on The Colbert Report or was it his producer?
I can't remember.
Here's a clue.
Colbert loves LOTR and gushes over J.J. Abrams asking about the next Star Wars….
And the way he rattled off the By-Tor lyrics like second nature….
-
Just do epics and classics.
There's a reason a song is considered "rare"….

"I like that song…. Why, why, Zee…"

Who's Simon Phillips?
Dude! I can't tell if you are being sarcastic!
Check out this video of Simon shredding on a tune called "Protocol."
You can click on other Simon videos on the right that will also blow your mind.
After watching "Protocol" just now there is now doubt that Simon blows Neil away.
Like I said before however Neil will always be my number one.
Phillips number 2.
Weckl number 3.
Great song, the keyboards are great, specially without a keyboardist!
:laughing guy:
I just watched Protocol with Simon and I really didn't see anything that Neil couldn't do.
Why would he want to?
Neil has his style which has undeniably influenced more drummers than any other drummer ever.

Starts at 17:27..
Always liked the cowbell & low-toms part -- we called it the Benihana, but his solos today are 10 times better overall. It's a lifetime of great drumming we get today.

Clockwork Angels is simply outstanding. The storyline, the playing, the sequence, the dynamics. It's got everything Rush.
Can it be topped?
This might be unpopular, but I can't see them outdoing it, and frankly, they should have a little fun on the next tour.
NO -- just finish up with a greatest hits and EPICS Reimagined! tour and go out on top.
Don't do another album.
I want to remember them as having many peaks--

Magazine editors and owners love the power of "My mouth to god's ears."
Meh.

A Rush fail.
Awww don't be so harsh. Sam Walton was THE workin' man
His kids on the other hand...

Thing is, if you really consider the lyrics, they definitely were not written by someone who was, in fact, a "working man".
This guy gets up a Seven. He goes to work at Nine.
Now, is he actually "leaving the house to go to work" at nine, or is he arriving at work at nine?
Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say he is indeed starting work at nine.
How long of a day is he actually working? Because he's home by five o'clock!
This guy doesn't even work an eight hour day. Technically, he could be considered a part-timer.
Not really much of a "working man" who has no time for "living"!
Musicians hours.
Ged and Al were creative artists, still working men.
-
As I am a Working Man and finally got around to watching this day of the Olympics and I was stunned by the Wal Mart Ad. Before getting blasted, let me just say, Rush can do whatever they want with their music-- It's none of my business! But, and this is a BIG BUTT- It's none of my business if big girls wear yoga pants or big boys wear a Speedo either but it doesn't make it pretty!
Rush are royalty now and the decisions they make are the decisions of royalty. This, in my opinion was not a very regal decision. Since coming out of the Ayn Rand years with a new sense of social balance Rush has stood for something better than Wal Mart. Any way I look at this ad, it just seems bizarre and out of place... Jeez guys, ANYTHING but Wal Mart.
HW
Brilliantly said!!!
I think you just articulated what a lot of people are feeling.
They're still my favorite band, I would have preferred Working Man on a beer commercial.
As to the workers of Walmart -- the Maples formed a Union.

#2 great semi-inovative drumming on 9 studio albums and dies choking on his own vomit.
#3 great incredibly innovative drumming on 20 studio albums and author of 4 books, husband and father. Still alive and touring, influencing generations.
Who the hell runs this rag?
Moby Dick vs. Piece of Eight ??? Nuff said.
List is a joke. Some egotistical publisher thinking he gets to decide these things that have already been decided.
1. Rich
2. Peart
3. Moon
4. Bonham
5. Copeland

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swOxKu80JpUNever liked that book - I prefer Fountainhead. Rand's philosophy as it applies to the integrity of an artist or individual.
Decent movie.
That movie didn't really do the book justice.
It was a good attempt for what it was.

Anyone able to play the concert DVD on Windows 8? I have media center installed (not media player). I've even tried vlc-player but it crashes. Media center says something about not supporting the resolution. Plays fine on Windows 7. Hate DRM!
Correction - Windows 8 can't play a perfectly good DVD.
Get a Mac, mack.

I am referring specifically to how did the audience(s) that you saw the show(s) with react, in general, to the Clockwork Angels material? Did they receive it like they were waiting for more old songs, or did they embrace it with excitement, or kind of in-between? We all know how crowds usually react when Tom Sawyer or TSOR fire up and close....how was the CA material received vs the 'hits' in your opinion?
I did see them live for the Time Machine Tour, but missed the CA shows :( I have watched the CA concert on bluray three times already and just adore it. It's downright magical. But I wanted a larger sample size of crowd reaction for CA than a show that was being taped, you know?
For myself, I liked CA before I saw the concert bluray, but the songs just blew up for me after watching that performance. I would have cheered my ass off for every single song had I been there.
The song "Clockwork Angels" itself was one of the most perfect live music moments I've seen on the video.
Thanks, curious minds want to know ;)

When the strings came in on Caravan, the crowd went nuts.
The crowd raised their hands to the sky during Clockwork Angels.
The crowd got into the Anarchist.
The crowd went wild for Headlong Flight -- old school banging their heads wild.
I saw both Chicago shows.
Nothing compared to the moment the Stanley Cup came on stage before yyz at the summer show -- that was nuts.

Except for Rutsy were any of them ever in a band that performed professionally (got paid) as RUSH?
Then none of them except Rutsy were in RUSH.

I never was left with a sense of wonder. It was always pretty clear to me that the good guys win. Many years later, Neil finally confirmed that this was his intention."or" implies the two are mutually exclusive.
Which they aren't.
Rock guitar frees the world from tyranny and the controlling temple priests but one man must be sacrificed (the guitar player) for the good of all.
But, in the end, we are left wondering: meet the new boss, same as the old boss? "we have assumed control"….
I'm talking about "we have assumed control" -- the priests have been replaced by another controlling force -- maybe it's W. bringing the shock and awe to liberate the peoples and put leaders friendly to U.S. guitar interests in place.
