  1. Somehow, yeah. It does. Somehow it feels easier, like Neil could play all of this in his sleep, and like he wrote the words to every song from a place of sincere wisdom and deep experience. Not that any of that ever wasn't true, but it all feels cemented, final now. There's no longer anything to prove, any question why, just the experience left to behold. It's all glowing faintly with some new meaning, and a knowing smile.

This. There's a finality to the music now. As if there were any doubt..

  2. I listened to Rush on my way home and was listening to Ghost rider the original 2002 release and it sounded different to me because Neil had died and is now a Ghost rider and nothing can stop him not age, not illness, and we can be grateful that he did come out of that hole in his life and gave us what he gave us.

I got chills reading this. I'm such a sap.

  3. I can't believe it. I simply cannot.

Rush were the artists that pushed me deeper into music and truly made me appreciate it as an art. So many musical avenues were opened by Rush and Neil pioneered much of it. This is like losing... I don't know how describe it. A revered family member? A long lost pen pal? A goddamned personal hero? I don't know... this is awful. I can't even imagine what Geddy and Alex went through keeping his illness hidden for almost four years while being pestered by fans over whether Rush will ever record or perform again.

All we can do is adhere to what Neil would like us to do and not vaunt him as some unparalleled god. Love his music. Cherish it. But at the end of the day he was a man, albeit a brilliant one.

Rest in the deepest of peace, Professor.

  4. Well I think it's safe to say that Nintendo's conference sucked pretty hard. The new Star Fox game looks cool but that Metroid one looks awful. Shame they didn't show anything from Zelda Wii U.

That "Metroid" game comes off as a game they were developing that they just happened to slap the Metroid name onto to maximize profits. Disgusting!

  5. Might as well post. My rankings switch up every so often.

I was not impressed. Some parts were witty and interesting, but for the most part, I found it to be redundant, crude and vulgar.

I give it a 3.5 out of 10. :boo hiss: :boo hiss:

By far the lowest rating I've heard of for it. Everyone I know thought it was more or less a riot.

    Church scene anyone?

I am definitely one of the minority group. It really turned me off. I must be getting old and prudish, as the #1 turnoff was the 10,000 F-bombs in the dialogue. With Firth and Caine in the film, I had expected something more sophisticated.

I actually love that Firth and Caine did something wonky and over the top. :dweez:

  7. In my opinion, the last great monster movie was King Kong in 2005.

Since then...there have good ones, but with JP4, I truly have confidence this one could match the original novel, never mind the films, based on the inventiveness alone.

Something new based on something old.

This doesn't strike as a lazy retread as much as it is a genius reboot in the form of a sequel (phew...we managed to escape the dreaded remake!).

Didn't care for Pacific Rim, Godzilla (2014), Cloverfield, Monsters, or The Host (2006) ?

  8. Think this will be much better than JP3.

One thing that bothers me is how they are so effing stupid to breed a new, more vicious dino

Well from what I've gathered the park has been up and running for a decade or so and interest has dwindled, so they cooked up a new dino in the lab to reinvigorate interest? :wtf:

Whatever. As long as I get to see the original T-Rex take down this Frankenstein's monster, I'll be happy.

  9. Hope to GAWD it's shot better (I swear it's disorienting to watch. I don't think there's a single shot that lasts longer than 2 seconds in the whole concert) and mixed MUCH better than the Clockwork Angels blu-ray. Is there someone we can contact to ensure it's a quality release? Maybe if we all band together and send hundreds of emails to the right person they'll get the message?
  10. Just a heads up you might want to edit the thread title as it implies that some albums got skipped on the tour and those who still remain spoiler free might see the threat title from the front page of the site.

    Anywho...

  11. I'm a big fan of the og Jurassic Park and as a kid I was quite the dino fiend. The long awaited -true- sequel releases in a little over a week. How do you guys feel about it? Will it disappoint? Live up to potential? Or do you just want to see dinosaurs on the big screen again, no matter the quality?

  12. Saw it yesterday, not overly impressed but it was alright. Certainly not worth the hype.

30 min long action scenes, minimal plot/character development and an oddly placed feminist overtone.

Sounds like Mad Max just isn't for you then. The former two criticisms have always had a place in the series. I actually found that there was more character in this than the Road Warrior. It's just not build entirely on a mountain of exhausting exposition. It shows, rather than tells. And I appreciate that. So many directors spoonfeed audiences but George Miller sticks to his guns. Hats off, Georgie boy!

  13. I honestly thought it was the best action movie since Terminator 2. Beautiful action set pieces and I found that the film had a beating heart to go with it. This is how you fcking do it!

Also, 98% isn't the score out of 100%. It's an aggregate. 98% of critics LIKED it. You can like a movie, for instance, and still give it a 3/5.

Can't tell you how many people I've met over the years who misunderstand RottenTomatoes. :codger:

  14. Just got back from the show don't know what people are talking about, thought the whole band sounded great especially geddy. Maybe a little wailing here and there especially OLV but thats expected. Thought he had good control with his voice tonight, don't know how it sounded off a periscope feed. I also don't know what the hell happened during DEW neil was doing something weird other than that perfect night…2112 alex had guitars screw up but minor thing in the end. Thought they sounded really tight overall.

Random question for anyone that went tonight: Ive seen them since VT tour but missed CA/TM. I noticed a lot of women today at Bristow which was always good. Have things changed over the last few tours/years or was it just this random show. It definitely is not the sausage fest it used to be…lol.

    Lots of gals at Greensboro!

  15. I was watching the CA Live Blu Ray disc today and could only make it through the first six songs or so before I needed to turn it off due to ear fatigue.

I don't know what the culprit is, be it post-concert mixing or simply the way their instruments sound live nowadays, but it's like a cacophony of sound, without much instrument separation, IMO. I can barely discern Geddy's bass, and Neil's drums sound pretty bad, too, IMO.

I think this plagues CA studio album to a degree as well. It's especially noticeable since I've been listening to a lot of early material, like Caress of Steel and A Farewell to Kings, where each instrument is crystal clear, and you can hear every one of Neil's ghost notes, etc.

I'd love to see them return to that kind of instrument separation, simply so I can enjoy listening to their newest stuff. I think CA has some great songs on it. I just wish I didn't get so damn tired listening to it!

Yeah, it's pretty awful. REALLY hope a new sound engineer works on the Toronto recording for this tour.
