QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jul 26 2012, 12:04 PM) Awhile back I started a somewhat infamous thread that I was dreading the release of CA. At the time I said:
QUOTE I know "dread" is a strong word to use, but I'm just not looking forward to what I fear will be yet another late career, sub-standard release. Some will say I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but I feel if anything I'm trying to prevent myself from being disappointed by keeping my expectations, based on my experience with the album so far, in check. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than have unrealistic expectations crushed. At the time I really didn't care for Caravan & BU2B, and while I liked Headlong Flight, I wasn't loving it either. Somehow, magically, Headlong Flight really grew on me, and the first two tracks suddenly were brilliant when put into context. I truly didn't think context could save those songs, but they did.
Other than that, this is just an incredibly strong album. I listen to it in amazement each time, waiting for the other shoe to drop and for me to suddenly see it as mediocre, but it simply doesn't happen! If anything, it just keeps giving and giving and getting better and better with one great song after another!
There was a thread shortly before CA was released where people got to predict what numerical ranking the album would get. I gave it a 5, and then after I thought about it, thought 4 was more realistic. Now that it's out, I give it a solid 8.5 out of 10. No, 8.5 is not a 10, but for them to make an album THAT good at this stage in their career I consider a miracle!
I was hoping against hope for 2 or 3 great songs, and I was skeptical I'd get that. In reality, there are at least 8 or 9!
I said in a recent thread:
QUOTE I was the first person to say that I really hoped I was wrong about the upcoming album, that I would love it, that I never wanted to not like or love a Rush album. I just didn't think it was possible.
I also maintained when people tried to pigeonhole me as being too prejudiced against new Rush to like it, or to admit to liking it if I did, that I would give it more than a fair shot and listen objectively. I did. I'm not going to deny myself great Rush if I hear it because of being unwilling to let go of preconceived notions or maintaining some kind of image. F*ck that!Sometimes it's awesome to be wrong. Clockwork Angels rocks!

Its always nice when our worst fears don't come true, isn't it, and you realize the joy that of being relieved of all of that worry for naught.
Clockwork Angels has exceeded my expectations on every level. If I could only listen with "clean" ears (without 30+ years of )
Oh, I wish that I could live it all again.

QUOTE (cokebabies2112 @ Jul 24 2012, 07:36 PM) Well, I'm new to this forum and can't believe what i just saw... A girl forum on here.As a 17 year old I'm used to girls liking mostly terrible music nowadays. I think it's amazing that there is one of these on here because there isn't one on any other rush forum! I just wanted to thank you ladies and fellow rush fans for having an amazing taste in music. Welcome to TRF! Glad to have you aboard! Lots of women with great taste in music in here! You are not alone.

I think its great but not surprising - saw it on the TV commercial a month back. I've been playing some songs (The Wreckers, Halo Effect, The Garden) for my non-Rush listening friends and family (basically everyone). They really seem to zero in on these songs as ones they like.
Any airplay that Rush gets is great. No, singles may not matter anymore but playing a great Rush song to anyone who will listen will always be fanshmabulous.

QUOTE (treeduck @ Jul 24 2012, 06:15 PM) According to this then the least popular albums are Rush, Test For echo and Roll the Bones. Rush (1974) [ 17 ] [19.32%]
????
And once again, confusion ensued.

QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Jul 23 2012, 09:46 PM) QUOTE (CygnusGal @ Jul 23 2012, 08:41 PM) I keep loving the album with each spin and find all of songs exceptionally well crafted (yes, even the much maligned BU2B2...lots of love from this camp).
I believe the album is magnificent, certainly their strongest effort since Moving Pictures though I am still waiting for the honeymoon to wear off and won't truly know until this time next year when the NA tour is over and I replay the album to see how it holds up. I think it will do very, very well over time.
Loving all of it.Agree word for word with you, except that I think it's their strongest since Signals. But, aren't you glad that you're loving it so much? Would suck to have to wait for so long for a Rush album only to be disappointed. Glad I'm not one of them!
Yeah, hopefully it holds up well over time and like you, I predict it will!
Wish Them Well

Cygnus was already taken. Love the story of Cygnus (black hole, battle of heart and mind, gods raging on high, walking roads, etc.) across two albums.
QUOTE We shall call you Cygnus, the god of balance you shall be. I just added gal figuring there are so few female Rush fans I might get that handle and voila.I don't know many Rush fans in my regular life, just my virtual life - never have, just one or two here and there and they were moderate fans. I was the only freak I ever knew before TRF. Aside from shows, I've found us to be few and far between and extremely passionate about the band.
Coincidentally(?), always loved the symbol and story of the swan.

QUOTE (blackhawkrush @ Jul 22 2012, 05:09 PM) Toronto 15 Boston 7 Jays at 48 and 47 Great day at Fenway. Got a bit of a burn for naught though. We could have left after 2, saved the burn and probably annoyed far fewer of the Fenway faithful.
Go Blue Jays!

QUOTE (eshine @ Jul 23 2012, 02:30 AM) Yeah, concert tickets are really expensive these days.
I used to go to a ton of concerts when I was younger. I can't imagine trying to pay these prices when I was a teenager or in my 20's.
But the way I see it is - I'm 42, successful, don't go to many concerts anymore and can afford to treat myself to seeing my favorite band live on stage.
Screw it. Life is short and this could very well be the last tour.
I'm flying from Chicago to New Hampshire for opening night, which just happens to land on my (and my Sisters) birthday.
I agree. I have know idea how kids today are supposed to see all the shows (whether or not there are any worth seeing is another thread entirely). When we 40-somethings were teenagers, concerts were around $10 - $15 - and that was pricey back then ($15.00 to see The Police! Hmmm...I don't know....). I paid $12.50 for my first Rush concert, general admittance (what's that?).
CA for Manchester, NH and Boston, MA, I laid out five bills total for two tickets to each show (NH is the cheaper show). Good call eshine, it should be a great show.
I don't go see anyone besides Rush - won't lay out the money.
I had an opportunity to see Tool a few months ago, but wouldn't spend the $80 for the ticket. Kicking myself now though.
Ok. Rush and Tool, won't pay for anyone but Rush and Tool.

Fabulous! As a fellow rhythm section player, I'm always delighted to see women playing "male" instruments.
Welcome to RTF and Happy Birthday!
Did anyone else notice the time on the clock?
in Rush
Posted
I was staring at the album cover yesterday and the time on the clock is 9:12 - or in military time, 21:12.
Pretty clever.
It's not what you think it is. It is not 9:12 (21:12)
Use the symbols in the liner notes song numbers to determine the translation of symbols to numbers. You'll see that in a clockwork universe "1" is at the top of the clock, not "12" like our timeline. Technically, the time is 10:17-ish (22:17 for you military types and mainframers) on the cover of CA.
An illusion by Rush. I think it means this album is not what we think it is. I believe it is an extremely deep satire - just like Candide, imo.
Deep. Very, very deep.
