  1. Nice! Chops galore! Sounds similar to my friends band Ragdoll. Same kind of hard rock influenced alternative thing. Cool stuff!
  2. Awesome! Haha that's funny cause none of us have actually listened to The Winery Dogs, I know of Billy Sheehan and Mike Portnoy though. I was a big Dream Theater fan a few years back, not as much now after hearing the awesomeness blend between taste/prog/unique/killer song writing that is RUSH! haha
  3. Toto and VH live album (I'm a diehard so I don't give a hoot if Roth is being and older version of Roth haha). Toto XIV is going to be immense! Burn is a MASTERPIECE. How Joseph Williams is capable of that majestic vocal power I do not know...but it's phenomenal! A little bit of a plug here haha, but my band Smooth Intentions also released our first EP this month! It's out on iTunes and available on CDBaby in MP3 320 and FLAC (for audio purists :P) if anyones keen to listen to next gen musos making some rock tunes! Power Trio Rock stuff - Grooves, shreds, big harmonies, big riffage. Catchy hooks, lots of Rush, VH, Toto and Muse influences!....Speaking of MUSE, another new album I'm super keen for this year, Drones! Mutt Lange as producer, will be interesting! https://itunes.apple.com/au/album/transition-ep/id966803741 http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/smoothintentions
  4. Thanks! So glad you dig it, very happy with how it turned out!
  5. Hey everyone, I just released my bands first ever EP called "Transition" today! I'm so very proud of how the whole thing turned out and it sounds exactly as I imagined it which is so cool! I did all production (recording, mixing, mastering) and I also wrote all the lyrics for the first time ever! haha. Was quite difficult but I eventually got the hang of it, I like to write non generic/straight forward and have several meanings for the songs that don't exactly mean what you first assume it to mean type of thing. But yeah was great fun altogether! The music is more centered towards the power trio sound, big guitars, ambitious drums, and Geddy Lee styled bass. So lots of grooves, shreds, big harmonies, interesting lyrical themes (one song I even went full Rush/Zeppelin and wrote inspired from Tolkein LOL). A lot of Rock, Pop and Progressive with elements of Funk, Metal, Hard Rock and some Jazz and Blues licks here and there. Big influence from Rush, Muse, Van Halen, Toto, Def Leppard etc. My drumming is kind of a big Frankenstein blend between Simon Phillips, Jeff Porcaro, Neil Peart, Alex Van Halen, Dom Howard and Stewart Copeland The song "Cheated" actually has a big Latin funk inspired instrumental section where I went full Caribbean style with percussion and used my piccolo snare to emulate a timbale which I think the drumming community (or even just groove lovers!) will appreciate haha. Super fun! See if you can pick out which song is most Rush influenced... :D Anyway if you want to hear some fresh rock music from the current generation check it out! There are previews on iTunes to hear and it's up for download now on iTunes! https://itunes.apple.com/au/album/tr...ep/id966803741 Also here's our music video of the first track "Moon Shadows" if anyone missed it last time! Thanks so much, hope you all dig it!
  6. Hahaha, I know exactly what you mean. Got to meet him at the Perth clinic (which was held at my old highschool, on the same stage I used to perform on only a few years prior to the clinc). Was mindblowing, greatest drummer on the earth! Amazing recording engineer, and knows how to get an amazing drum sound as well. Simon knows his stuff, one of those people with that legendary, wise, epic musical skill/knowledge vibe who've had such an awesome career, has the best stories too!
  7. Hey all! My band Smooth Intentions just released the first track from our debut EP that's coming out in March on CDbaby/Itunes etc and I'd love it if you could give it a watch/listen. Very proud of what we've accomplished here and it sounds just as I pictured it in my head. GREAT FEELING when that happens. Here's the link The band consists of my brother Luke on Guitar/Vocals, Ian Chandler on Bass and myself Joshua Gallagher on Drums. We're from Perth Australia. I also recorded, mixed and mastered the track. It is really hard to try say what genre we play but think like alot of classic band influences condensed into a new modern power trio sound. I'm very proud of the EP in it's entirety, there is A BIG range of music in these 5 songs. Lots of influence from Rush, Toto, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Avenged Sevenfold, Queen, Muse, Megadeth, a little INXS and even a few jazz, funk and bluesy influences. It's so hard to define our sound, but I think the most accurate is Power Trio Rock. There's alot of Geddy inspired moments in the bridge of this song which you will probably all notice! haha Rush are a big influence on our sound. The last track of this EP is also VERY rush influenced (with our own styles of course haha), and has a big jumpy anthemic chorus/riff that I could picture crowds in Rio jumping and singing the melody to haha. Has a great instrumental section for the 2nd half of the song, I also took a page from the Rush and Led Zeppelin book writing songs about Lord of the Rings and wrote the song using the book as inspiration haha. (LOTR is my favourite fictional work of ALL TIME!) It's also very cool the whole experience for the first time properly putting your music up for sale, and having a legit album under your belt!. Also the first time for me writing lyrics, which I wrote for all the songs. Man at times it can be difficult! But I'm so happy with how they turned out! Great vibes all around! Anyway, check it out! Turn it up to 11! haha Thanks so much, I appreciate it!
  8. Cheers , Hahaha yeah it's something about that vocal line where you just have to sing it!
  9. Hello to all the Rush fans on here! Don't get annoyed at the addition of "16 year old" in the title, I am merely just stating that to show that there are young people who listen (in Australia) and good music! Here's the link to my cover of Tom Sawyer The guitar and bass are performed by my band mates of "Smooth Intentions" (the link to my bands youtube page is in the video description if you'd like to check it out) If you've got a youtube account please feel free to post some feedback or like the video as it helps to get the video higher on the list and therefore gives me much more exposure! Thank you so much (in high Geddy voice) for your help!
