  1. I'm not sure where else at TRF this was posted, but I thought it was worth adding it here in this thread:

wasn't really very interesting to me until around the 7 1/2 minute mark. Pretty tasty squeals.

Song was really boring for the most part.

Yep. I agree. But, I liked that Alex was playing the Hentor. I don't know or can't remember if it was mentioned: is that one of his original Hentors (red, black & this one) and did Freddie rehab it? Or, was this a new one that Freddie or somebody made for him?

That is his original Hentor Sportscaster. There is only one Sportscaster, the white one. The red and black ones had different names.

Yes I restored it as it was quite a mess. One of the Floyd posts had broken out because the humbucker route was too close. At some point after I last saw the guitar in the early 90s someone replaced the pickguard and the humbucker (a Dimarzio Fred which sounded awful in that guitar) but the humbucker route on the new pickguard was closer to the bridge than the original pickguard. So they routed the body and that's why the Floyd post collapsed. When I got it from Alex in order to backwards engineer it I gave it a stainless steel refret, new electronics, new pickguard, new pickups and repaired the wood around the Floyd post.

  2. Cool pics, thanks for sharing those...and a nice story.

What is that your playing in the vid, a Kramer? Sounds very much like the Signature in the SOH vid.

I'm trying to guess the year by all the mullets in the vid...so I'll go with 1991? :)

Yeah that's a Kramer Pacer. Bought it in 83 and I still play it regularly! Your mullet dating skills a finely honed sir...it was 90 or 91.

  3. Well, it was a georgeous evening. The temperature was perfect, and everything is as it always was....the old willows are so majestic, the Merry-Go-Round still offers 5 cent rides (since 1920) and yes it still weezes the same old 4 songs...LOL!

Last year some friends from England were here. I was in Port Dalhousie one morning this past January and shot this little video of what Lakeside park looks like in winter....brrrrrrrr!!!!

And lastly, here's a video of my band when I was a young man covering Lakeside Park. It's in the second half of the video....the first half is YYZ. I always had a special feeling when playing that song because it was a song about home, growing up there and cherished memories. Neil hit that one out of the park for me on a personal level....I don't care what Geddy thinks, I will always love that song!

  4. Hey all!

A couple of friends and I have a yearly ritual. Every 24th of May we go down to Lakeside Park in Port Dalhousie, have a drink and a smoke and raise a glass to Rush. We've been doing this almost every year since I was about 16 years old. Anyone who may be local and feels like hanging with us, come on down! We'll be there at about 10pm.

The Money Tree by Kilgore Trout.

It had twenty-dollar bills for leaves. Its flowers were government bonds. Its fruit was diamonds. It attracted human beings who killed each other around the roots and made very good fertilizer.

    So it goes.

  6. Hey Hentor Fans....

I'm pleased to announce that you can all hear the Hentor once again! Alex Lifeson was invited to play on a song from Jon Wesley's forthcoming album "Disconnect".

I had to hold my tongue since I knew about this back in September when Alex e-mailed me telling me that he was recording at Wesley's studio and using his newly refurbished Hentor exclusivley.

Well, now it's been announced and I can talk about it! Al was thrilled with the Hentor telling me "It never sounded this good, buddy! Wonderful results today with the session."

I can't wait to hear this...apparently Alex laid down a fabulous solo.

  7. Don't know about the other two....but I have the inside scoop that one day outside of the SRO office in Toronto some nutcase Rush fan chained himself to the gate and threatened to start cutting off his fingers one at a time unless they met his demands.

    He was the "Digital Man".

  8. The other day (New Year's Eve actually) all the guys in my band were warming up in our dressing room before the gig and just to pass the time, our drummer started grilling us on music theory (and he knew the answers). I can't say I've ever experienced that before!

Back on topic though....both my keyboard player and I know our music theory so there's very little rivalry. It's nice when you can speak the same language ya know?

  9. am i the only one who thinks this is the most wasted opportunity ever to capture images of the hentor sportscaster?

3 images taken with no detail - and then all future images and photos are of the recreated guitar not the original.

    :( d

    Wasted opportunity? Surely you're joking!

I took hundreds of images of the Hentor and I logged every detail.

  10. I was super excited to watch the blu ray on my monster system and then.....blah....the mix totally stinks...no drums no bass is just a complete disgrace...how does something like that happen?...why cant they bury ged's vocals because they are the weak spot and they seem to be right up front...I love everything else about the show but the sound is a huge let down...snakes and arrows and r30 are way better in terms of sound and punch

This is exactly the way I hear it too. I mean come on! I've done better live recording mixes in my home studio....
