  1. I'm not sure if the Yankees have announced it, but if they expect CC to pitch Opening Day, if they expect CC to be their #1…he'd better pitch like it. We can't have another near-5 ERA from the "ace."

On the bright side, Kuroda, Tanaka, and Nova are all projected to have ERAs below 4. CC is, too, but I'm not so confident in him.

I don't think the Yankees are going to do much this year. I'm still surprised they let Cano walk. McCann and Ellsbury are - somewhat - solid additions, but it's going to be tough to compete in the East. Tanaka is a toss-up. Kuroda is solid, and so is Nova, but I'm not sure they've got what it takes to get back to the postseason this year. They'll be a good one to watch, though.

Absolutely. They'll certainly contend this year, though. I'd say they'll at least have a better record than 85-77. I'm thinking more along the lines of 91-71, likely a Wild Card spot.

They did get no-hit tonight by the Marlins, so I'm now thinking they'll probably win the AL East. ;)

  3. On a lighter note, the Vancouver Canucks.

    *sad trombone*

Yeah, sorry about that. It seems the collective psyche of Canucks fans was messed with because of what the Isles did in that third period.

Since 2005, only one other team has lost by 3 after entering the third period with a 3-goal lead. That would be the Tampa Bay Lightning, in this game, coached by one John Tortorella.

Vanek from Roy and Stafford three consecutive times in that third period? That's kinda wacky.
  4. Rich Peverley has collapsed on the Dallas Stars bench... Players have been taken off the ice for now.

He's had a procedure done in the past for an irregular heartbeat..

    This is scary

he's alright. couldn't believe what I was watching, though. rarely see anything like that happen to a player.

He should retire before his story ends like Hank Gathers' or Reggie Lewis'.

    Or Alexei Cherepanov's...

Have to think that an NHL rink, with defibrillators and paramedics on hand, is one of the safer places for someone with a heart condition though.

Jiri Fischer's career ended because of something very similar.

But while it's a very safe environment, he still has a potentially life-threatening condition. I think this is the end of his career, given his history of heart trouble.

Strangely enough, he missed a game last week because of the heart condition. I think he's missed two (maybe three) games this year, all due to the condition. He also had a procedure done to combat his irregular heartbeat before training camp and missed the season-opener. Basically, when the word spread that it was Peverley, every Stars fan's reaction was, "Oh, shit."

On a lighter note, the Vancouver Canucks.

  6. What a scene in Lincoln!

Nebraska beats Wisconsin 77-68 and clinches the 4 seed (and probably a tourney berth). Which would be richly deserved, they need to be off the bubble....

Court storming sucks, IMO. I was asked to video it anyways (for the place I work), so I stood to the side. But I was on the front row of the student section behind the basket, and it was madness. MADNESS. So much fun.
  7. Awesome game last night. Great seats. 6 round shootout with one of the Ducks shootout goals reviewed. Like everone there I thought it went into net but after 5 minute review "no goal". Great game my Habs beating the number one team. Sold out arena last night at least 3,000 Habs fans.

only bad thing about these seats is I had to look at this all night long. Kept distracting me from the game.. :P

Interesting on the sellout. The attendance for the Stars-Habs game in Dallas was atrocious. I was there. Surprised it wasn't closer to sold-out. Maybe 12k there. Nice seats, for sure.

  8. f***ing NIf***ingh T.

    F***

Fairly good game from the neutral POV, though.

Better losing this one to the Huskers than OSU, Wisky, or PU, I guess. It's a decent win for the Huskers. 10-8 in the B1G should get them in, and hopefully they can take out the Badgers and finish 11-7 and remove all doubt.

Indeed. If they beat Wisconsin, even if they shit themselves in the Big Ten tourney, they should get in. 19-11, 11-7 in the Big Ten would be awfully tough to turn away.

  9. Is anyone going to put together a fantasy league for TRF? Haven't noticed if anyone does anything like that here. I'd definitely sign up. Hell, I'll even make the league as long as everyone promises me their first-round picks in the draft.

If there's enough interest, I'd love to do it. But I know how a lot of people feel about fantasy baseball.

I'd be interested as well, provided I'd be available during a draft. While I hate fantasy football for a myriad of reasons I've always enjoyed fantasy baseball, provided that the subbing rules aren't too crazy/involved.

    Yeah. Fantasy football is trash.

And any league with the forum would be very simple. Something that anyone could enjoy. Nothing crazy/stupid.

  11. This song could really utilize video bits in the background. And pyro.

Maybe a tribute to Challenger/Columbia at the end.. The instrumental bit that eventually fades out could feature the picture of the crews (kinda like the soldiers with angel wings on WTA).

Or, it might be the exact reason why they DON'T play this live - might stir up too many negative memories.

    Clem

doubt that's it. the pass could potentially stir up negative memories for those who knew a loved one who committed suicide, presto could offend ex-magicians who quit the biz, etc and they still play those

I don't think it would offend anyone. Maybe if they tour in 2016, they can do some sort of 30th anniversary deal. I don't know. The band likes the whole 30th anniversary thing. ;)

  12. Sabres also get a 2015 1st and a conditional 2014 1st if the Blues make it to the conference finals. Is Miller really *that* much of an upgrade over Halak?

His playoff statistics (Miller) never struck me as outstanding, which is all that matters. Obviously St. Louis thinks he's the solution to their lack of ability to make a playoff run.
  13. I was always curious about this myself. If my band released our first 20 minute song, and we were really proud of it, then I'd imagine we would do whatever it takes to play it live, or at least part of it. I'm also constantly perplexed at how they managed to play the full 2112 sans The Oracle for so long. It's only 2 minutes longer!

Rush is infuriating when it comes to setlists.

While they loved Fountain of Lamneth, it was nothing compared to 2112, which essentially saved their careers. They had to play 2112. They didn't really need to play Fountain of Lamneth.
  14. At least we agree on one thing!

    THE "RED SUX!"

    I HATE THEM TOO!

The "Walk Off" Bunt was huge in Oakland many years ago against them in the playoffs!

    Signed,

    Ramon Hernandez

Ahem. That's "reigning world champion Red Sux" if you don't mind.

Haha! Yep that is very true. Congrats. I'm just glad the San Francisco Giants didn't win another ring. Shoot me now if they win it again this year. It's an even year so I'm worried.

You should be worried, Panda's in a contract year so he will have to put away the fork for a bit. My baseball bucket list is to see the Giant's beat the Yankee's and A's in the World series.

I might draft Panda this season but I am a Giants Curse. I drafted Posey number two last year and he wasn't very good!

The power numbers just weren't there. He wasn't too bad early on and his average stayed decent but he basically just faded the way the whole team did. The Giant's never got any spark last season and the loss of Pagan didn't help. Their usually stellar pitching wasn't as reliable either. It's funny cause the team hit well early but with bad pitching. When the pitching finally settled in the lineup looked gassed and Sandoval looked bigger than ever. I think that if Brandon Belt starts slow again he may become trade bait.

Sandoval has a surprisingly high career average. But you're right.. Last year's power numbers were lame. 26 homers in two years, just three more than his total in 2011.
