  • Best Rush Experience
I have only been (so far) to one Rush concert, and it was an experience to remember. The band has really been an influence to me, and I can only pray that they remain as healthy as they are now so they can continue to change lives with their music.

  1. QUOTE (NobodysHeroine @ Apr 19 2011, 04:26 PM) Since I missed a day of school yesterday, I have a crapload of homework to do. But I'll take some time to tell you all about my epic Sunday night. As you may have imagined, the Auburn Hills show was absolutely incredible. It took four months, a three-hour drive and a half hour of waiting, but it was all worth it. Rush is a band that you cannot fully appreciate unless you have seen them live. I understand that now. In the beginning, I just couldn't believe that I was there; I was so nervous and so excited. When the guys walked onstage, my knees were shaking and my heart was racing. It was overwhelming at first, but I warmed up to it very quickly. I was singing along with every song and rocking out. There were tears in my eyes during "Faithless" and "Witch Hunt." What really ticked me off was having the people in front of me blocking my view of the stage. I didn't know 75% of what was going on. I had to stand on my tip-toes to see anything. I was like, "Dammit, people, I'm trying to admire Geddy here! If I can't see Geddy, that's not good for business. I'm trying to savor this experience! Geez!" We were on the floor, closer than some people, but still pretty far away. Thankfully, they had that large screen behind them that allowed everyone to see the band. The intro videos ["The Real History of Rash"] were hilarious, especially the second one, just before "Tom Sawyer." The light rigs and pyrotechnics were amazing! My dad said that it rivals Pink Floyd's live performances with the light effects. The band, as you already know, is a trio of exceptionally talented men who give it their all every single night, even when they're pushing sixty. I read that Geddy was a bit under the weather that night; but, as always, he was not one to disappoint. He totally nailed those high notes in "Free Will." Hell, I'd love to sing like him when I'm sick. My favorite performances were "2112" and "La Villa Strangiato." All twenty-five songs were kickass, but those songs in particular. I consider "La Villa Strangiato" to be their greatest instrumental. It's so complex and so difficult to play right, not to mention most impressive when played live. That guitar solo is out of this world--I had chills. And, of course, "2112" is one of their greatest songs, bar none. When we got back out to the truck, it was past 11:00 at night. It was a three-hour show. It didn't feel like three hours--it went by so fast. Why do all the most enjoyable experiences end so soon? It was altogether an expensive trip, combining the cost of the tickets, the food at O'Brien's Crabhouse, the repairs to my dad's truck and the cost of staying at a motel. It also took three hours to get there and three hours to get back, the return trip traveled through snow. All the same, my dad told me that it was all worth it; every time he looked over at me, there was a smile on my face. Awwww, he's awesome, isn't he? I will forever remember that night. Thanks for posting this! You put it word for word just how I felt about the concert! It was my first, seeing the "Holy Trinity of Rock" in Nashville on April 3. They were absolutely minblowing. You're right, you can't fully appreciate them until you see them live. It was a little disappointing in my section, because we couldn't get the best of seats, and everyone in my section was sitting down and acting like they weren't enjoying themselves. Only when a really big hit like "Freewill" and "Limelight" was played did they even act remotely interested. They were more keen on getting beer than hearing the band. Urg. People! You can't just NOT stand up at a Rush concert! That's...against the law or something! Anyway, thanks again for sharing! So glad you had an awesome time!
