QUOTE (softfilter @ Jan 15 2012, 12:50 AM) Well.. In the very least people have by now completely forgotten how "ugly" Bernie Kosar looked throwing the ball! (But hey at least Bernie was accurate) Another ugly passer I remember was Billy Kilmer.
In fact I think a lot of his would be interceptions were dropped because they were so wobbly.

QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Dec 19 2011, 10:35 AM) It's funny because I don't think I'm putting ANY pressure on him....simply because I'm not hyping him up to be something incredible. That's the press and his uber-fans, reminding us at every turn how remarkable he is. As a person, perhaps. I don't know the kid, but he seems incredibly nice. I don't begrudge him his religious beliefs. He's hardly the only Christian (devoted or otherwise) in the league, so it's not like spotting a unicorn. Lots of NFL players with bad characters out there (you know the ones; you read of their arrests) and plenty with good ones (the Brees, Manning(s), Rivers, Rodgers, etc). Lots of good examples out there and Tebow appears to be another one and that's great!
But what I'm saying is that it seems that his fans often use his good character and spiritual openness to excuse what is often pretty lousy play. Did he have a pretty remarkable run of comebacks there? Yes and duly noted. His sense of confidence and ability to rally his teammates is worth saluting. But MOSTLY (meaning throughout most of an average game) he's nothing impressive. He's an athletic guy who scrambles well and is dangerous on his feet...but with very BLECH quarterbacking skills on the whole.
I don't think that's putting too much expectation on him. It's calling a spade a spade and saying that DESPITE those other things that make him a fine person, an admirable Christian, a good example to kids and other players, and an overall good athlete, he's just an average quarterback. That's merely how I and a LOT of people see the guy. I just don't use his other good qualities to make more out of his sometimes lousy QB skills....and I'm seeing a lot of that. Sure there are some people who merely tear him down because he's Christian and they hate that. But most people who are analyzing him are simply looking at his numbers, which aren't all that impressive. That's not personal on the guy. It's pointing out his weaknesses, not unlike pointing out any OTHER player's weaknesses.
For example, if you sit there and tell me such-and-such is a fine running back but a shitty blocker and a terrible receiver out of the backfield, it would be stupid of me to respond this way: "Why do we have to tear down the guy? Shouldn't we be celebrating the fact that he's a good role model??? Oh and I think you're also criticzing him because he's a devout Muslim player and you just don't like that...!" Those are the kinds of things I read when you dare criticize Tim's play.
Isn't possible that Tebow is both a fine man and not all that good of a quarterback, even if you disagree with that assessment?Tebow reminds me a little of Jake Delhome. Lot of times it's not too pretty, but somehow it works.
Like Delhome, he needs a strong running game behind him.
Fox likes to play a conservative game. Tebow must take care of the ball for Denver to allow Fox's defense to be successful.
His running ability and ability to shead sacks are his strengths. His passing skills must and I think will improve.

Some context on the picture: the photo was taken after the arrest of the worlds first streaker on a major sports game (I believe it was european football in the UK). The officer had covered the mans junk willingly, without orders. I hope he filed for a new hat afterwards
Sorry I'm late but had to post.

QUOTE (Workaholic Man @ Nov 27 2011, 09:27 PM) The Bengals may not make the playoffs this year, but they are certainly earning respect throughout the NFL. Andy Dalton is a winner, and he's going to keep improving. The Bengals play tough, never-say-die football.

QUOTE (Test4VitalSigns @ Nov 20 2011, 03:15 PM) QUOTE (treeduck @ Nov 20 2011, 02:12 PM) The Panthers are crushing the Lions!
And with the Fins walloping the Bills it looks like the resurgent and formerly downtrodden teams are going back to being downtrodden...
Lions just went ahead of Panthers 28-27...
Yep, if we had something close to a decent defense, we'd be dangerous.
But we get to play the colts next week so jussst maybe.
My pick Panthers 41 - Colts 38
