  1. There is an interview out there from the early eighties with Geddy smoking a cig and talking about how easy it was to write Closer to the Heart. He comes off as a complete dick lol

In retrospect it's not surprising. I cant think of a band more maligned throughout their career. You have to develop a thick skin - and, frankly, an ego. They all knew how good they were. So did the fans.

This is part of what makes this last decade of Rush such a joy. They are more humbled and appreciative then ever - and have rightfully earned sincere recognition.

Yes, it seems the losses Neil suffered changed everyone. When they came back after the long hiatus the entire band and crew had a different energy. The fans too. Can anyone that was on this forum before we knew the band would return tell us what it was like around here during that time?

  2. I remodeled my home from ceiling to floor. You learn a lot doing that and also when to get help. I hired out the molding because I wanted it done nicer than I could and the tub plumbing. I can take a toilet out and replace it or a sink, but I hate to plumb. The hardest part was the kitchen cabinets. They had 30 years of oil based stain and 30 years of grime. It took me forever to strip them down to the bare wood which was a beautiful blonde pine. With a light shade of stain and clear coat they came out great.

  3. Listening to only one genre or sub genre of music is a little weird. I really can't see a reason to get snobbish about prog. A lot of it is noodling for the sake of creating a longer song and even the best of it is rarely heard by modern radio listeners. My guess is that you can always find people who are snobbish about "their" thing. Sometimes it feels cool to be in on something only a few people know about at least until they write a pop hit and the bastards sell out.

  4. TLIYE, I could have said it better. Neil Peart's blog is about his life outside of Rush and yes he can be a jerk. Some of his snarkiness and holier than thou opinions rub me the wrong way too, but it comes with the territory. The part about his daughter was some of his best stuff in a while. I think a lot of people (me included) read the blog hoping for any mention of Rush and we only get it on rare occasions. If he does mention Rush someone usually shouts it pretty loud on this forum so for a lot of folks it might be better to wait for those moments.

  5. Your life is a gift from God and He knows that I tried to throw away the one He gave me. When you hit rock bottom there is no where to go except up... Give it a try. The reason you go THROUGH stuff is so that you can emerge on the other side.

  6. I think this is interesting, even the signals wiki contains information about this "reprise". It says that It starts after the slamming door ending of countdown and mentions that analog kid has the same ending. Of a slamming door. Hmmm, I'm going to research this a bit more.

    Y'all find anything?

  7. Not this again. Okay, for those who are sensitive to contrarian views, please do not read the following rant:

:ranton: Still here? Okay, you asked for it. Now guys, you all know what happens when I force myself through one of Neil's blog entries. I end up feeling cheated and I become incredibly resentful, eventually going off at his expense. Now I just read a ton and a half of Greek drama and I really enjoyed that, so it's not like I don't enjoy reading. Meanwhile I'm incredibly happy for Neil's luck in having a new family. But unless he and his entourage ride into my house and put a gun to my head, I absolutely refuse to read any of his maddeningly naive, condescending, and dull-witted prose ever again. Lyrics? Great. Brilliant beyond belief. But please, in the name of Cygnus, save us all from Neil's clueless, classist musings. Sorry, but that is my view and it is not changing. :rantoff:

After all this time you express this opinion? I get it that you don't like it, but would you stand before his four and a half year old daughter and tell her that her father's writings don't suit yer selfish ass?
