  2. I'll put it this way...it's hard to go wrong with anything Yes did, up to and including Tormato!

Even the Tormato stuff shined in concert. I had a bootleg of the Cleveland '78 show, and they played quite a bit of Tormato. I thought Future Times/Rejoice was exceptional at that show.

Some really great songs on that album. It was their most recent album when I first got into Yes. I used to play it into the ground.

  3. Yessongs is a great introduction to the early Yes catalog; it's an amazing live album. My favorite Yes album is Close to the Edge followed by The Yes Album.

I still think Fragile is an amazing accomplishment, and the fact that it is the first album to feature Rick Wakeman also makes it special. But I think it is a distant, though solid, third on my rankings chart.

I agree with that assessment 100%!

  4. Really wanted to see them in Chicago but I'd already made that trip the week prior for SW. I think I picked the right show to see, since SW was phenomenal but DAMN (!!!) I wanted to see them. Had the show been on a weekend, I would have made the trip from STL again. F'ers should have coordinated with SW ;)
  5. Ænima/Lateralus/Undertow(the album that got me into the band)/10,000 Days

I actually love them all. I wouldn't say 10,000 Days is "the worst", it has some really great moments on it. However, it's not as original as the albums that came before it. Pretty much a rehash of ground the band already covered...at this point, I'd take another one like it...ANYTHING!!

  6. Fellow TRFers, I have great news to report: I decided to bring Deadwing to work today, and I guess taste changes with age more than I thought - I´m really digging it! Shallow and Lazarus are my favourite so far. I haven´t had a chance to listen to the longer tracks yet, but I´ll try Deadwing and "Arriving Somewhere..." in the afternoon. I guess this proves that some bands/albums take more than one or two listens to be fully understood, right?

I had In Absentia for about a year before I really sat down and gave it a good listening...and that was after Fear of a Blank Planet came out. Sometimes it takes time and persistence.

  7. Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun are not only two of their best albums to date, they are both more instantly accessible than most of their other albums. But they aren't as hard rocking as the last four albums, so don't be thrown when you don't hear any major riffing like heard on the albums you already have.

Agreed. Those are two great albums.

I like the "crunchy stuff", so In Absentia and Deadwing get a lot of play in my changer. So does The Incident.

But there's lots to love about SD and LS, and I think you hit the nail on the head when you taled about them being more accessible to a new fan.

    Enjoy!!!

I'd add a third to this. SD and LS are good for starters.

  8. My ranking:

    Lizard

In the Court of the Crimson King

    In the Wake of Poseidon

    Islands

    Red

    Starless and Bible Black

    Larks' Tongues in Aspic

    Thrak

    Discipline

    The Power to Believe

(love all of the above, barely listen to the ones below)

    The ConstruKction of Light

    Three of a Perfect Pair

    Beat

  9. I've been listening non-stop since I got my DE in the mail last week. I hear TONS of Crimson influence throughout. I even hear some parts of Red (the song) in Luminol. I love that they used the actual mellotron from ITCotCK! Nice touch!

So far...it ranks a very close 3rd for me, behind GFD. I think once I listen to the 5.1 mix a couple of more times, it'll move up on the list. IMO, this is the best surround mix SW has ever done!

Seeing them in Chicago but bummed that Marco Minnemann won't be on the US tour.
