  1. Back to Denny's - I've been sick this past week, so was looking for something simple, and decided on a club sandwich with broccoli on the side. Got halfway through it and had to take the rest home for lunch the next day.

I forgot the 20% coupon I had, and I think it's only good for another week, so we'll probably be back there next week.

  2. Not often, but I have on occasion. Wegman's puts the samples into little plastic cups, so no one besides the server and you touch it. There doesn't seem to be a huge demand for the samples like I'm hearing about here, either - no pushing and shoving (and Central New York is known for Black Friday trampling assaults, so if anyone would push and shove, it's people from here).

The best sample I got was a little cookbook with coupons along with a sample of Ortega Mexican food one Cinco de Mayo.

  3. I'm a definite child of the 80's, love synth-era Rush the best, and am not a fan of modern rock, but I'm looking forward to CA and the shows I'm going to on this tour like you can't believe. I also think that even my least favorite Rush album is still darned good. Why? Because Rush is a timelessly fabulous band. There's a reason they've been around for forty years and are still going.

So, yes, I'm definitely one to accentuate the positive when it comes to Rush, but I don't think one necessarily has to be a modern rock fan in order to do it.

  4. Of all the music out there, Geddy's voice and Rush's music are still what I want to hear most, to the extent that I'm stoked for the new album and the shows I'm going to. That's the only standard that I care about!
  5. My first impressions...

    Caravan - already familiar

BU2B - Ooo, the new into is cinematically foreboding, and a little Indian (India) sounding.

CA - love the synth. Laugh if you want, but it reminds me a little of the intro to Savage Garden's Fly Me To The Moon and Back. Obviously, it's going to go somewhere a lot more rocking tongue.gif

Anarchist - killer bass and drums here

Carnies - reminiscent of Brighton Rock by Queen

Halo Effect - So 2112-ish that I could swear part of it was lifted from that song! Then an acoustic-y feel like S & A

Seven Cities - FUNKY! Can't wait to see where they go with this.

    Wreckers - sort of Armor & Sword-ish

    HLF - already familiar

BU2B2 - wow, more cinematic foreboding-ness a la the new into to BU2B! Makes my hair stand up on end!

Wish Them Well - standard rock for what I thought could be one of the heaviest topics of this album.

The Garden - another where I can't wait to hear where it's going.

To sum up, I love how this album pulls from other Rush songs old, recent, and even within this same album, has moments that remind me of other favorite bands, yet sounds compltely fresh for both Rush and music in general. A definite sense of being on edge waiting to find out where the story is going (and what Geddy's vocals are going to sound like, since we only get a smidge of them here, and they're always a highlight for me)!

  6. I concur with Seven Cities - that funky sound is new for them, and I want to see where they take it. BU2B2 has such a foreboding sound that it comes in a close second, and the synth in CA and the strings and acoustic wistfulness of The Garden make me want more.
  7. Well, I did finish up Hemispheres with La Villa - their first instrumental, and a chance for all three of them to shine, sometimes at once. I do miss Geddy's vocals, though. This song, and a few others, are starting to feature the synths that would become one of my favorite aspects of the Rush sound.

And then I got sick Tuesday night (stomach related) and spent most of the time I wasn't dragging myself to (and at) work, asleep. I also didn't want Rush associated with feeling horrible, so I haven't listened for days. And now the new album is about to drop on my doorstep, and I don't know if I'll be able to resist getting into it.

So, I don't know if my listening marathon will go forward (in time for the new album) but I'll update if I make any progress.

  8. For the type(s) of music I like, you'd have to extend the timeframe from the early 60's through the mid-80's. There was some stuff I liked in the 90's, but nothing has set me on fire since the 80's (well, Rush, for example, is a notable exception). Don't care for the 50's, either - that sock-hoppy early rock is not my bag.
  9. The two Subways in town here are worlds apart. The one my boyfriend and I go to is clean and the food is fresh, probably because they're busy and there's a fast turnover. You have to be tolerant of the appearance of the two girls who run it - one has pink hair and the other has enough piercings to set off a metal detector - but if you are, no problem.

The other one is not as clean, fresh, or busy, doesn't have seafood salad, doesn't take coupons or give you as many points, is more expensive, some of the employees don't speak English, and all are treated badly by the owners.
