  1. My daughter had her first reconciliation tonight and my wife and I were talking (ok, bad subject for church to be whispering about) and trying to remember some movie we saw back in the 80s, I think it was pretty popular actually. I remember one scene where it is a bunch of Catholic kids and they are in church and the one kid claims to have masturbated some ridiclous amount since his last confession (like hundreds of times) and in this scene the kid goes into the confession booth and you just hear the priest say something like "YOU WHAT????", comes out and grabs the kid by the ear and drags him out of the church.... I know, kind of vague, but does that ring a bell to any of you movie buffs?
  2. Have you tried Rocksmith? It's like guitar hero but with a real guitar... I' ve had a lot of fun with it so far...

I've been wanting to try that. Do you feel you're actually learning the guitar because of the game?

I have it. I find it's a great idea but it has a ton of flaws. I had a little bit of prior experience going in to the game and I felt the pacing was far too slow. The mini games are fun and great to train muscle memory, the tutorials are geared towards beginners. Many of the tutorials neglect to mention applications of what you just learned. You're basically expected to figure it out by playing the songs.

My main problem with the game lies within learning the song. There is no way to control difficulty. You do bad, it drops the difficulty, you do good it increases it. This may sound great in principle but I was playing Livin' After Midnight and I kept missing the same chord switch during the verse. So one note on 10-15 or so I would miss and it would drop my difficulty down to single notes. Had it kept me there I would have got it, but instead I go down only to go back up to try hitting that one note again. So unless you can get 100% on the song a few times, you'll never get the REAL notes. This can be frustrating. I played that song and Song 2 over 20 times and never got the full notes despite wanting to see it.

A good way to practice guitar is taking the notes of a song and playing them slowly right? Rocksmith doesn't let you do this either. You're either playing at the difficulty it tells you or you're not playing. You can select a specific riff to practice but even then it controls which difficulty you're playing on. This is a huge turn off for me.

Rocksmith will teach you guitar but not very well. To me it's a supplement and it has very little to offer experienced players (I came in with a decent amount of theoretical knowledge on the instrument from paying attention to the guitarist during out jam sessions and almost every tutorial little or nothing to offer). A friend of mine who had already been playing guitar for 3 years when it came out (the same friend I mentioned in my last post who moved on to a real instrument because of Rock Band) didn't like it because he could 100% many of the included songs on his first try and yet he still had to play the songs he wanted to learn several times before he got to the real notes. He also mentioned that the tutorials were very shallow but great for beginners.

I've abandoned using rocksmith to learn. I feel that I'm progressing much better using the internet to learn at my own pace. I use rocksmith's tutorials to verify that I am actually doing it right and the minigames to substitute trying to practice a scale or switch between a bunch of chords that use up more than 3 different frets. It definitely makes improving muscle memory a hell of a lot of fun.

    EDIT: structure, grammer

I'm not sure how long it has been since you played it, but make sure you do the updates via your Steam client (if you are playing on your PC) for it. There have been some massive updates since I bought it just a month or so ago and in terms of practicing a song, you can do that and if you hit the notes it will speed up to 100%. You can also learn the techniques in the techniques area and when a song has a new technique (bends, etc), that technique will "open up" and you can practice it...

Don't get me wrong, I do think there are some areas that could use improvement (and will as move updates come out) but I have had a lot of fun with it and feel I have learned quite a bit in a short amount of time...

No just feel, I AM learning guitar by the game.

The way it works is like Guitar Hero, so you start at easier songs. Even on those easier songs, it will sense that you can't do chords, or certain riffs and will dumb it down for you to single notes, spread out if youa re messing up. You then need say 25,000 points on that song to qualify/move on. But if you keep playing that song over and over and over and get better, eventually you will end up playing the entire real song, all chords, etc. and score a perfect 120,000 or whatever points. I have almost gotten there with "Use Somebody" (King of Leon).

They also have downlaodable/purchasable content like on Guitar Hero for a price, including a Rush package.

I wish I had more time to play on it (and I wish my fingers could stand the game for logner sessions, but I am a guitar virgin).

I have it for the PC - comes with a 1/4" jack to USB...

  4. My son was recently bullied by kids 3 years older. He joined an after school dodge ball thing that he had really enjoyed the prior year but a group of kids (6th graders) called him "pussy" and such over and over the first day of it last week and he came home crying and quit the dodge ball thing... Ripped my heart out. I think the most important thing you can do is let them know they are loved soooooo much and what a bunch of dicks say mean nothing in the scheme of things... Hard to see as a parent.

  5. Is it just me or do you feel a little sorry for the first guy? Probably was picked on throughout school and the fact that he still holds such serious grudges against the people really does point that it affected his entire life. I am not saying his threats/commenst were right, but I kinda take the w2hole bullying thing pretty seriously. I don't think bullies realize the dramatic negative affect they have on their victims for years to come...

I also bet that of the 150 people attending the reunion about 149 of them were packing heat to make sure the guy didn't do anything after the threat...

  6. iPhone 5, 6.01

    phag.

    f**k you :)

Don't mind him. He's just mad because he can't upgrade. If you leave me your phone for a few hours I can downgrade the firmware to 5.x. If you want I can also downgrade the hardware to make it look like an iphone 3GS and you'd never know the difference! :P

He is just sore because he was complaining that he couldn't get on TRF from his cell phone. After investigating and us failing to figure out the problem, he sent us a picture of his current phone to make sure it was compatible with web browsing:

  7. "ntbackup.exe". You read my post before I edited it.

Excellent - I will try tomorrow at work. Thank you!!

No problem! I also found this article online on how to restore the shortcut but you do have to be a little bit of an advanced user to do it but really it is not terribly difficult.http://xperiencexp.b...der-system.html

Oh yeah, creating a shortcut to it isn't a problem once I know its filename. I have just never used Windows backup software until I hit Windows 7 - I always used other non-MS software for it... I was considering even just creating a batch file to use XCOPY and then throwing that batch file into the Scheduled Tasks so it did it automatically for him... Thanks!

  8. Can someone help me with how to set up auto backups in Windows XP?

At my office, all of our computers are WIndows 7 with the exception of one person who doesn't wish to change to WIndows 7 yet. On the WIndows 7 computers, I have an external hard drive hooked up to them and use the WIndows 7 Backup to automatically back up all the files needed each week in the middle of the night.

How do I do this with Windows XP? Looking online, I saw one article from Microsoft that said there is a backup utilities in Accessories ---> System Tools, but it isn't there on this computer (and yes, he has Service Pack 3, which apparently is required)...

    Any help here greatly appreciated...

  9. I had this exact problem and updated the firmware (available on your manufacturer's site and executed through your router admin access) and I never had the problem again. I would try updating the firmware. If you need help, let me know manufacturer name and model #...

Good idea, thanks, thing is, as often as we use wifi and as easy as it is to push the button, and how lazy i am when it comes to tech and that the cable company (comcast) would probably just replace it....(deep breathe) should I do the update or just get a new updated hardware device (with the new firmware already on it) since the device is years old already?

The router is the cable co's? If so, call them for sure, I doubt you even have access to the admin area of your router (type 192.168.1.1 and log in as admin/admin if you never have and see)...

But otherwise, the firmware update takes like 5 minutes and I didn't have to power off/power on every other day anymore...

  11. Liberating Outposts is fun... especially when there is a Tiger or a Bear in a cage.. just snipe the cage and enjoy the show!!!

Unfortunately I didn't learn that until half way through. Ended up sniping them from afar one by one until I learned of releasing the animal :laughing guy:

  12. Just finished it. Two endings possible, all determined at the last scene...

I loved hunting around for the radio towers to activate them and taking over outpost after outpost.

I did find every single loot chest, idol, and lost letter, other than two loot chests - one shows at a tiny little island on the north, but there is nothing there and I never found a cave that goes to it. The other is on the south island near a river and it will not open so I can't get that one...

    GREAT game though...

  13. Don't talk about gun control or you will be banned.

No, but you'll just get a 2 week suspension from the politics area if you tell someone to f**k off ;) Those are the rules agreed to upon entry...

Tony, I really suggest you leave politics in the politics area and take some time to cool off. You're a good guy inside, you are just mad right now and I don't want to see you end up breaking TRF rules about bringing the politics out here into the general areas. I'd hate to see you go from the entire board for something that isn't worth it and you're better than that.

  14. Took my 6 year old daughter (now 11) front row about 5 years ago. Alex gave her a pick and she still has it in a frame. She had the time of her life and I highly recommend it.
