  1. You've come up with a tricky one Madra I'll give you that. Good news! Narrowed it down to less than 600 words that I'm 80% sure one or two of which are in the phrase. Am I good or what? I smell a military cryptology contract coming my way soon.. Cheers, Schro P.S. No guesses yet, but on their way..
  2. Still no clue, but here's a stab: Dreamline?
  3. For something easy I'm sure struggling. How bout.. The Twilight Zone
  4. QUOTE (rickyrob @ Feb 3 2005, 12:56 PM)QUOTE (Schro @ Feb 3 2005, 11:35 AM) The Fountain of Lamneth? Because you are the pioneer of this, it read as though it should be a person, which is what I was thinking at first, then thought deeper and read the subtle clues. BTW, Fountain of Lamneth is wrong I didin't think it that difficult actually, and didn't put too much in fear of really giving it away. Yes, I did that intentionally to throw people off a bit. I always figure that there a such hardcore fans around here, that anything remotely direct will be figured out in about 15 seconds, so I tried to make it a bit tougher so it would be a better challenge. I'm glad you brought it up. I think, if you're describing a person - feel free to describe it as a thing instead, and conversely ask "who am I" for things not people, as I did. Once that trend goes awhile, then you'll really be able to confuse them by describing a person as a person, only they'll think surely you're describing a thing, and subsequently will have to take a bottle of Mydol when they find out you were actually after a person. If I didn't have so many dang meetings this afternoon, I'd have more guesses. Cheers, Schro
  5. QUOTE (madra sneachta @ Feb 2 2005, 05:10 PM) Now she is, of course, very careful, but the question is What If They Deceive Rolinda By Gin? Let's see.. The only letters you didn't use are J K M P Q S U X and Z. That narrows the english language down quite a bit. Schro
  6. QUOTE (rickyrob @ Feb 3 2005, 02:33 AM) I looked a little deeper into that one schro Mine is: "Are you dreaming? Possibly, maybe I am your destiny so don't step on me" Ouch RickyRob! That's a doozy! I can see between this riddle and Madra's anagram I'm not going to get any work done today. Fear not - Schro is on the case! But hopefully not the only one - come on guys, this is too much fun. Schro P.S. Not sure what you mean by "looked a little deeper into that one". Do you mean you caught all my subtle clues? Or do you mean you extracted clues that I didn't even know I put in there? Or possibly that you digged deeper than paganoman's guess?
  7. QUOTE (madra sneachta @ Feb 2 2005, 03:05 PM)OK then, that means it's not the answer Neil gave when asked where he sits to get inspiration - My Lilac Studio Chair Or Alex's answer when asked what he thought of Mr Brynner's performance in "The King And I" Yul, Charismatic Idol Or the time you worked as a customs and excise officer and impounded stuff belonging to the Irish Lerxst Admirers group until they paid you, writing them a letter which read I Claim I.L.A. Duty, Schro You'll be telling us next that it's Radio City Music Hall Brilliant Madra. You have earned the Anagram Crown again! It's with fear and trepidation that I invite you to give the next challenge, as I'm sure it will keep me up late several nights hence (I only ask the small favor that you spell it right) Cheers, Schro P.S. And now for something a bit embarrasing. For all two of you who have been following my anagrams closely, I did include a clue in my story. If you looked very carefully, you would find the words, "different.. stages.. sleeve" buried sequentially within the text. This because I was certain that the cover of said sleeve was a shot of Radio City Music Hall. Shortly thereafter, a bit of doubt crept into my mind, and I looked it up. Imagine my shock and horror as I learned it was certainly not what I thought, but of course the London Hammersmith Odeon. However, I felt it was too late to change the story, so I was hoping noone noticed it and was following the wrong trail. To all my Rush friends (you guys) and family (i.e. my brother Brett and my cousin Steve), I offer a heartfelt apology for getting this wrong.
  8. Clue #2 for those of you still grappling over this.. One of the words has been guessed already. Schro
  9. QUOTE (madra sneachta @ Feb 1 2005, 08:22 PM)For a minute there I thought it was about me Chill Out? - Madra Is Icy!! I'm not giving in, I'm not giving up........ Haha Madra - glad to see you're on the case. Was worried there for awhile Sadly, that's not quite it, although now you have me wishing I'd thought of that. I'll give another clue tomorrow. But I'm sure you'll both be pulling all-nighters to solve this and that won't be necessary. Cheers, Schro
  10. QUOTE (rickyrob @ Feb 1 2005, 05:06 PM)The black hole, Cygnus X-1 Ding Ding Ding!!! Well done rickyrob! You are up! If anyone along the line wants to defer to me, I have another one ready. But I'm hoping to use it by guessing one of yours. Cheers, Schro
  11. Congrats on diving right in paganoman! Thanks for the compliment - I was hoping some folks would get into this. Sadly, your guess of Cinderella Man is not it. Keep trying! Oh, by the way - if any of you get it right and are a bit daunted by coming up with one of these yourself, you can always defer to me or anyone else you'd like. I've love coming up with this stuff. Cheers, Schro
  12. Ok, folks - I've come up with a brand new game. I'm guessing there's one or two of you out there that has read The Hobbit? Good! Remember the chapter where Bilbo meets Gollum and they give each other riddles to see who gets the ring? I thought they were very cool and thought it would be a great idea for a Rush game. So here's the gig. Take any piece from Rush trivia or songs that you want, and make a riddle around it, Hobbit style. Dance around the obvious and confuse your readers to your heart's content. Worry not too much for eloquence, just have fun with it! I will start. Gather round the fire and listen to my tale: I'm a bit of an enigma. Warm yet wintry. Sunny yet shadowy. Sometimes I can't even figure myself out. I'm a bit of a loner. Some think me not kind, but untrue! I long to give everyone a warm embrace. But cross me and surely you shall eat your words. I'm a bit too much for some people and not enough for others. Some say my head is too big. If that's true, why do so many yearn for what I know? They just don't understand me. I'm a bit obtrusive. Some even say I'm pushy. I just like to see people on their way. Come into my heart, and I will guide you. Who am I?
  13. Ok, small hint to keep you from going completely mad. It's a place, yet all the words are very common and everyday. Anyone else working on this besides Madra? Where is everyone? Schro
  14. All great guesses Madra - I tip my cap to you for your efforts. Sadly, none of them are correct. They were quite funny though. Keep it up!! Schro
  15. Deep in the bayous of Mexico, a different kind of Rush Tribute band emerged. Steeped in the long traditions South of the border, they cared not the venue. Town to town, they traveled to desolate ampitheaters and lonely stages to bring their vision of Rush to the people. They called themselves, "Tres Ninos", which roughly translates to, "Three boys in the grass with one blade stuck between their teeth" They made their own variations on some of the Rush songs, but their most famous is their version of La Villa Strangiato. Such was it's power, that it became a spiritual hymn amoung the people. And, whilst a "northerner" would recognize it as La Villa, clearly, these guys had made it their own. Tres Ninos loved their fans, and would play hours upon hours of their songs, sometimes playing until they passed out. Or the audience passed out. Whichever came first. Yet, if their was but one fan still lucid and crying for more, they would keep going just for him, such was their devotion to their craft. But they knew the set was not over until they played "the song". Deep into the night, fingers bleeding, feet almost numb, and beads of sweat rolling down his forehead, the guitarist would roll up his sleeve and wait for an old guy way in the back to cry, Yo! Strum "La Acid Chili"!! Can you solve the riddle? Good luck!! Schro
  16. Got it. (I think) AA, Hush That Hen As Shooting Expands The Night Has A Thousand Saxophones However, for me to be correct, Madra would have to has mispelled Saxophones as Saxaphones, as I am missing an "o" and have an extra "a" in my solution. Once Madra weighs in, we can determine if I nailed it or need to go back to the drawing board. (though I'm pretty sure I'm right with the "relax" clue) Good one, Madra!! Schro
  17. Not so fast Mr. Rat. Wordsmith Schro is on the case!!
  18. Caught me just before I was leaving work and.. You got it! Nice work Madra!! Clues you were supposed to pick up on: Three references to Exit Stage Left, from which Xanadu is on: 1) Kingly Foe - Beneath, Between, and Behind lyric (also double reference to Farewell to Kings, the studio album for Xanadu, obviously) 2) Deft Safe Exit - Wacky Reverse Homonym for Exit.. Stage Left 3) The Choice - reference to Freewill Reference to Xanadu itself 1) In these lands unknown, you may find - "lands unknown" lyric found in Xanadu itself Lead on Madra! Schro
  19. Egad! I decided to take a couple hours and read through this entire thread, just to get a history of where the game has gone. It was quite a good read (even with perhaps one too many fart references), when all the of the sudden, a huge wave crashed over my ship. Through my seaspray blurred vision, I saw the worst I feared was true. My anagram quote has already been used before! It's not quite exactly the same, but still I find myself left depressed and hungry. I mean, I spent all that time coming up with something I hoped would be worthy of the anagram gang here. After grabbing a bag of Hershey's kisses and heading to the couch, I sing myself to sleep: Just think of what my life might be In a world where my anagram hasn't been used before! I don't think I can carry on Carry on this cold and empty life Ohhhhhhhhhhh...nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. (seque screeching Alex solo) Somebody please solve it already and put me out of my misery.
  20. At the risk of pressing on prior to Moonraker's blessing, I'm going to go ahead and throw my hat into the ring, lest the subjects go too long without their daily anguish. But be warned! Only the brave shall dare enter this Anagram Gate. For inside lies your deepest fears, the most dangerous of journeys, and your worst nightmares. In these lands unknown, you may find your Road to Freedom, or your Eternal Prison. Many courageous souls have already drowned in this abyss, never to be heard from again. Even at the entrance you can hear the faint cries of the persecuted within. No one would blame you for turning back now, but maybe, just maybe, you could be only one who can defeat this Kingly Foe. The Dark Unknown or Deft Safe Exit? The Choice is yours. Let the tribulations begin! Gather, my fellow tortured souls, and answer this riddle: "Help! I Crave Her Darts!!" Good Luck! Schro
  21. Finally got it!! This easily took me about 6 hours, but at last it was all made worthwhile. Incidentally, I was on the right path starting with the w's. I estimated the entire anagram to be either 3 or 4 words. And as it is rare for a word to have 2 w's in them (windward and worthwhile are only two I can think of), that meant at least half or more of the words had exactly one "w" in them. But enough fanfare. Without further adieu: the wang cried, "wale"! Wide-Angle Watcher ..from The Camera Eye, obviously. Schro P.S. Other candidates I threw out were: Ace Angel Withdrew Wire Angel Watched (didn't know how close I was here)
  22. Hmm, I know I'm getting closer. The key has to be the two w's, as they represent the most infrequent letter of the bunch. I've narrowed it down to 200 w words, but none of them scream Rush at me. But, since I'm here, I might as well guess. the wang cried, "wale"! = A Chewed Twain Lager?
  23. Hi all, looked like you all were having fun so thought I'd join in. Now I realize you're all cruel and twisted and enjoy torturing others. In other words, I've found a home! I've tried real hard on this one, this is the best I have so far: the wang cried, "wale"! = Watching Real Weed
  24. Big Money. Great energy, great lyrics, great composition. Interestingly, I hated Mystic Rhythms when this album came out. Now I love it. I think I have serious psychological issues.
