  1. I just know I'll get grilled for this but should guitar solo's really count as "great sounds"? I mean they are fairly hefty parts of the song sometimes.

One that comes to mind to me is the to forced harmonics Alex plays in Different strings in the second verse.

  2. How the hell does Geddy get such a growl on that bass of his. In general it has a nice growl (I'm guessing it has something to do with that rickenbacker he had but I'm to poor to afford one of them) But also it has the nicest growl and bite to it ever on different stages. Listen to the freewill bass solo (its bloody brilliant anyway).

How do you get that kind of tone?

  3. Thats more like it slim.

I disagree that it is perverse to deny the existence of such things in the same way that it is not perverse for a person to be an atheist in today's society.

It is because of the subjective nature of music and art that we cannot judge it as anything other than an opinion. Even if we have the support of people in one community over an opinion of Rush music we cannot guarantee the opinion would be the same as the other.

Yes it is true we dislike opinions that do not match ours but we have no way to prove "right" or "wrong" in the big scheme of things. I for one am not a fan of absolutism as I find the arguments to be reliant on religious or dogmatic sources in order for them to work. (I mean eschatalogical verification... what a useless proposition wacko.gif )

Beyond our own community it is not possible to discuss ethics and rightness in any way other than subjective manner. It is like a crowd shouting "yay" or "boo" they are not proof of the state of something merely an expression of feeling.

Man I knew Rush and Philosophy went together cool10.gif trink39.gif

  4. no seriously not upset

but my point is that you may find it in poor taste but many others do not??

even going by your theory how can we verify that your taste is the definition of good taste?

  5. QUOTE
And remember - arrogance is subjective as well, and I don't personally give a toss what you personally find arrogant

    Yeah bloody hilarious.

In my honest opinion you are a t**t rofl3.gif

  6. Have you never heard of modern Art? Some pieces similar to what you describedare very highly regarded.

Open your mind mate. Other people consider things differently to you. People change their opinions as well. Taste is not a constant thing. One minute prog was on top of the world and the next punk rock took it all down. Don't you see Yes, Floyd and Rush were good taste but then were bad and vice versa with Punk.

    Kindly shut yer yap. 19.gif

  7. There can be no such thing as a universal element of bad taste.

Every person has a different opinion of "good" taste. When quizzing the majority of the public I am sure you will find they do not believe Rush to be of "good" taste. I am also sure that you will find general public taste has changed since Rush were first around (I am coming to my point soon schla03.gif lol.) Because of this we have no way to define, discover or prove what this "good" taste is, so talking about it would be next to meaningless.

All we can talk about is what we believe to be good or bad in our own tastes.

So in all respects say it is shit if you want however you have to remember that other people think different yes.gif
