  1. I've had a Kindle ebook for a couple of years now, and although I am impressed by its portability & storage, I just don't feel quite at home with it compared to a good old fashioned paperback!

The term "turn the page" seems more like an anachronism these days, but there is something rather satisfying turning a real page and putting a dog-ear into it :)

My prediction: 2-1 to Italy after extra time

That would make my wife happy. She's got $100 on them. unsure.gif 1-0 Spain...

    facepalm.gif damn it!

still plenty of time for the equalizer. Italy got caught cold right from the off, but now they're making a few more chances; and yet their target man Balotelli hasn't made his presence felt yet

  3. When I first played HYF way back when, I did feel Tai Shan was totally out of place with the pace & rhythm of the rest of the album.

But some 20 odd years later, I do feel an affection for the song now. It still doesn't make my top 50 Rush songs, but when the mood take me it's pretty good to relax to

  4. The match has just kicked off: it's going to be difficult to pick a winner here. Spain would seem to be the favourites still, but the way the Italians suddenly come to the party and totally bossed Germany, I have to say the momentum is with them.

My prediction: 2-1 to Italy after extra time

  5. I know its really early days yet, but looking at the trending so far, things look a little flat post-HYF!

Perhaps over time CA might buck the trend a little. If not after a few more days or weeks it will certainly say a lot about their musical evolution in terms of popularity over the last 3 decades or so.

    England are shit!

    biggrin.gif

Italy aren't champions at penalty kicks either but I'm sure they'll take this over that Roma-Gornik eurocup semifinal from 1971 when, after three draws, they had to flip a coin because they didn't have shootouts in those days.

Italy will probably get beat by the Germans.

England need a clear-out of the Terrys and the Gerrards, it's time for some new blood. Let's see the end of the WAG generation.

Just proves how over-rated some of these England players really are when you take them out of their respective clubs in the Premiership.

The likes of Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man United etc, are good only because of the foreign contingent making the English players in the teams look better than they really are.

    Same old, same old.

Yeah half of Man City plays for Italy and Spain, the other half plays for Argentina and the workhorses like Milner and Lescott make up the numbers...

England are the workhorse team, and some of the workhorses don't work so hard (Rooney).

Rooney is the most overrated player since Beckham.

I don't have the stats to prove my theory, but I'd be interested to know how many quality English players play for European clubs? Not many I guess.

But by the same token, how many European footballers play in the Premiership? And the answer is, shedloads!

Why is that I wonder? Why are the likes of Roma, Bayern Munich, Milan etc not overly bothered signing English players? Simple truth is that they're not good enough, or there's simply not enough to bother with.

Perhaps Premiership clubs should reduce their dependence on foreign players and let young English players from the academies ply their trade, which might work in England's favour in years to come.

Trouble is, Premiership chairmen & fans want results NOW; they don't want to wait for English kids to reach the top after 3 or 4 years; so they will happily sign players from abroad, thus benefiting the club, but ultimately harming England.

    Catch 22 I guess.

40 minutes in, and typically Italy are in completely control short of actually scoring.

England are as per usual sitting back, playing deep and letting the Italians dominate midfield. Clearly England's tactics is purely counter-attacking- not pretty football, but very familiar.

I thought England had some good chances to score. confused13.gif

Yes they've had a few half-chances, but it's the defence that really bothers me.

The 2nd half has only just started, and Italy just missed a sitter 3 yards out and no England defender picked him up.

we're playing too deep and giving Italy room to play

"Glengarry Glen Ross". One of Jack Lemmon's finest performances.

Alec Baldwin is a god in that movie.

Agreed. One of these most powerhouse, ballsy cameos ever!

  11. Sometimes - most times in fact - England flatter to deceive. They talk the talk pre-match; but cometh the hour they struggle to keep to any decent fast-flowing, organised football and usually end up resorting to Plan B route one tactics of just hoofing the ball from deep and hope someone like Rooney or Carroll will be on the end of it for a tap-in.

I hate to say it, but I think this is Italy's game for the taking.

With all the talk about French players fighting among themselves after the Sweden game, it's the Spaniards who are planning changes in their line-up. Vincente del Bosque is trying to find a spots for Pedro Rodriguez and Alvaro Negredo. It seems only Casillas can be sure of playing...

The French don't seem to have learnt the lessons from their last world cup, when they self-destructed big time! Too many egos I guess; I thought only the Dutch were the masters at that game, but looks like the French have topped that - and this can only give the Spanish an even bigger advantage in tonight's game.
