  1. OMG! I had a friend bring some of the "Real Deal" back from one of his trips to Europe and he invited a bunch of friends over to perform the little ritual giving us all a "true Absinthe experience".........UGH! I have to agree, it tastes like s***. BUT, after the first few shots, it just doesn't really matter anymore! LOL Actually, Tequila patron.gif is my drink of choice and I rarely experience hangovers....EVER! Let's just say I don't remember much about that night! wacko.gif AND, I haven't had any Asinthe since.........

Hey, it's better than nothing! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Your Right Troutman! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif With my knee and hip problems I should just be thankful to be running at all! But, for the record, running outdoors is still the way to go, no doubt! biggrin.gif

Yes it is..take care of your knee and hips. I had knee surgery last year this month. Knee problems are no fun. rage.gif Hope the weather gets better for you soon. trink39.gif

OK.....Now I'm stalking you! LOL TOTALLY KIDDING! Sorry to hear about your knee surgery, but glad you have recovered and are back to running once again! applaudit.gif My physician thinks I just have a really bad case of tendonitis and bursitis in my knee and hip. So hopefully with some physical therapy and a lot of anti-inflammatories I'll be back to my marathon training in no time! biggrin.gif

And I promise, I'm logging off here now! tongue.gif

Got new running shoes last night!  I went to this super awesome place where they measure your feet and watch you run in the shoes they have to make sure you have the correct shoe for how you run and your foot shape/size.  I tried on like 6 different pairs tongue.gif  They even had me hop on a treadmill at one point and videotaped my feet  laugh.gif

So, I'll be trying them out today -- my new Saucony's biggrin.gif

AWESOME! I've owned quite a few Saucony's myself and LOVED them! Wore them COMPLETELY out! The last time I purchased running shoes, however, I let the salesman talk me into a pair of Ecco's. Eh......The verdict isn't out on what I think about them yet. smile.gif Best of luck with the new shoes and place a post on your opinion of them if you would!

    2.gif ON!!!!!

Will do! I just ran in them (about 4 miles on my lunch break -- I'm increasing distance ohmy.gif )

So far, I'm loving the Saucony's. It doesn't even feel like I'm wearing sneakers on my feet, they are so light and comfortable. That's one thing I noticed about them while trying on the different pairs yesterday -- the others, I could feel them on my feet and they were heavier. But stil supportive

That's clear as mud, right? tongue.gif

I understood Completely!!!!!!!!!!! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif That's Great! I think you'll be real happy with them. Which style did you get?

My physical therapist let me run 4 miles today and then he tortured me with a few impossible stretches but ended our session with a little moist heat. I'm feeling pretty good at the moment.....little sore, but feeling much better than I did!

Troutman....Check out the shoes at www.saucony.com! They are kind of hard to find down here in Ga, but there is a Saucony Outlet not far from me a little further South in Florida. That's where I purchased my last pair!

Hope everyone has an AWESOME weekend! biggrin.gif

Thanks new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif Hopefully there is a store up here that carries them. There is no way I am buying a pair of shoes online. tongue.gif

You have a great weekend also! trink39.gif

Oh NO...I'm with you on that one! I would never buy a pair of running shoes without trying them on first and testing them out! But, check out the website and see what they have to offer. They may have a store locater available on the site to. I didn't really look to see. Best of Luck! biggrin.gif

You know, It's really funny that i've stumbled on this thread. I work out 4-6 times a week and am in pretty good shape but.....I need to pass a physical fitness test for a police department... the run is 1.5 miles in 12:29. I jog at a slow pace betweeen 9:30 - 11:00 min mile. What can I do to increase my speed and overall running skill? do you guys know any running programs?

I usually run for distance and not overall speed, but when I am working toward increasing my running speed I do interval training. For example, the last time I was training to do a half-marathon and I wanted to cut my time down a bit I started doing 30-second to 1-minute intervals with a 30-second to 1-minute recovery jog in between 2-3 times a week. And then I gradually increased the time of my intervals until I got the results I was looking for, but not exceeding the recommended max interval time of 5 min. Also, I started doing more weight training with my legs and between the two I cut my time down to what I wanted it to be! Best of luck! I have Faith....YOU CAN DO IT! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

    I got in five also biggrin.gif trink39.gif

Yeah, I was really surprised. After being on bedrest for a few weeks and just plain not having the energy to run I assumed I was going to take a break from running for the duration of the pregnancy. But, I got my energy back and talked it over with my doctor and she said she didn't see any reason why I couldn't start running again, so, I gave it a shot and so far so good. I'm going back to my original plan of running for as long as I can. My doctor had a patient once who ran six miles a day up until she delivered. If that lady can do it, I can do it. Maybe. We'll see.

Best of luck to you! When I was pregnant, I ran all the way up until I started having early contractions and had to cut back to walking and then eventually my doc restricted me from exercising, so I know the feeling! UGH! But hang in there and as I said BEST WISHES!!!!!!!! smile.gif

  9. Hey Guys!

It's been a while! I finally saw an Orthopedist and he said just as you guys thought I have a tendonitis/bursitis in both my knee and my hip. He gave me a steroid injection in my knee which was ohhhhhh so AWESOME! By the next morning, my knee was feeling better than ever. However, he said I would need to have some Physical Therapy for my hip before I could get any relief, so.............I've been seeing a therapist three times a week stretching, biking, and getting ultrasound treatments. So far my hip and knee have never felt worse but they say to give it time. NO PAIN NO GAIN, right? lol This is only my second week, so I suppose I have to be a little more patient. I had to cut back to 4 miles a day, but at this point I'll do whatever it takes!!!!!

Hope all is well My Fellow Rush Fanatics and Running Freaks biggrin.gif

  12. Thanks Everybody! You Guys Totally ROCK, but then again I wouldn't expect anything less from a bunch of fellow Rush Freaks! biggrin.gif I ran 10 miles today before giving in to the injury, but I have an appointment with a local Sports Med. Doc in the area that has an awesome rep for helping runners get back into their groove as quickly as possible. So, I'm hoping.......

Thanks again for all the advice and for welcoming me into your "club"!

  13. Thanks Janie! That's what I was afraid of.....I had a really bad case of bursitis and tendonitis back when I was in college and my knee doubled in size, and I could barely walk. It was absolutely no fun. I ended up with lots of physical therapy during which they also used a TENS unit and gave me local steroid injections. It was probably a good 6 weeks before I was back to running again, but when it was all said and done I felt better than ever. This injury, however, has been going on for several months but has me slightly baffled in that there is no swelling involved. I suppose that's why I kept thinking I could treat it with NSAIDS and integrate more stretching into my routine and it would cure itself. NO SUCH LUCK.....UGH! So, on to the professionals!!!!! b_sigh.gif

Thanks again and I'll take a look back at those posts you were referring to! th1245.gif

  14. Hey My Fellow Rush Fanatics and Running Freaks! I'm new to the forum and just noticed the thread you guys had here about your running goals and adventures. I'm currently working up to my first marathon....or so I hope. At the moment I have multiple half-marathons and 5ks under my belt but have never attempted a marathon, or at least not yet. I currently run anywhere from 6 to 10 miles a day, but am struggling with a knee injury that is beginning to work its way into my hip and ankle.....UGH! I've been overdosing on NSAIDS, tried both hot and cold wraps, epsom salt wraps, and any and everything else I have been told or have read about in my research on these types of injuries. I even bought a pair of running shoes from one of those stores that pre-fits your foot to the "perfect shoe".......that too didn't seem to help!!!!! banghead.gif I'm finally giving in to the fact that I should probably make a visit to an Orthopod and get some physical therapy. angry.gif Any advice you guys might have or opinions on the matter would be appreciated! Thanks so much!!!!!
