QUOTE (Mara @ Apr 24 2010, 10:34 PM) Here's a link to some Drum Workshop finish options for perusal:
http://www.dwdrums.com/drums/collectors/finishes.aspIn my experience, sapele wood looks awesome with a transparent bordeaux red candy finish.

Fear X4 won't work unless you inserted it into the MP set, which is just nutty.

A jointer, an industrial belt sander, and a 3-axis CNC. They can build the guitars for the next night's show.

Just some of the reasons I chose P/G over others:
Rush - Adolescent rock songs
Fly By Night - Band having fun on the run (Making Memories)
Caress of Steel - Wistful recollection ala Lakeside Park
2112 - A Passage to Bangkok (Party on Garth!)
A Farewell to Kings - Closer to the Heart
Hemispheres - Apollo and Dionysus kiss and make up in the end, and all is well for humanity.
Permanent Waves - It can be viewed as a quasi-cynical look at music as industry, but The Spirit of Radio in the end celebrates the power that music has in framing your life.
Moving Pictures - Everyman superhero Tom Sawyer makes the world safe for individualism.
Signals - Humanity sends it dreams to the stars in a magical, fire-belching white beast.
Grace Under Pressure - Humanity will be crushed under the weight of its own fears. We're all doomed, and even the robots will die scared and alone.
I could go on, or even make other arguments for bleaker themes on other albums. But P/G is just what it is to me--pretty hopeless.

QUOTE (Rush Cocky @ Oct 7 2009, 11:31 AM) I don't get what you all are seeing as so dark with GUP... A glaring shortfall of optimism to be found in any of the tracks perhaps.

Grace Under Pressure. Between the Wheels.
-
Moving Pictures. I love the double visual pun.

Vapor Trail(s)

Voted Peaceable Kingdom, but then I thought about how I always figured Secret Touch was probably about the little bit we keep of those we've lost, and got a little weepy. So I guess I'm changing my vote.

Between the Wheels and its analogy between furry little creatures meeting their end under our big machines, and man overwhelmed by machinery of our society.
Oh, and because it rocks.

Go Columbia Go!

Why couldn't this poll be checkboxes instead of radio buttons? I couldn't chose, but ended up choosing dark-horse space reggae Vital Signs.
-
Hard to chose, but I went with Spirit of Radio. It seemed at once a declaration of principles, an honest reflection of music as a business, and stylistically a taught, radio friendly rocker that seems fresh and undated as though it was released last week as opposed to 28 years ago.

La Villa...Lerxt ate his Wheaties that day.

Yup, results of this poll were obvious 2112 indeed.

The Fountain of Lamenth, first in a series of multi-movement songs of epic length.

Anthem for sure. Showed exactly the direction Neil would take Rush. One hell of a debut track.

Rainbow definitely used Rush fans for their album art.
